Propylthiocyclopentadiene: A new synthetic route to complexes of iron and group 4 transition metals. Molecular structure of (C5H4SCH2CH2CH3)(2)ZrCl2
The use of the propylthio-substituted cyclopentadienylsodium salt leads to 1,1'-bis(propylthio) ferrocene and dichlorobis(propylthiocyclopentadienyl)zirconium, titanium or hafnium(IV). The structure of (C5H4SCH2CH2CH3)(2)ZrCl2 has been established by X-ray analysis (orthorhombic, Pbcn, a = 11.943(1) Angstrom, b = 6.883(2) Angstrom, c = 22.412(2) Angstrom, V = 1842.4(2) Angstrom(3), Z = 4, R(F) = 0.027). The complexes have been characterized by H-1 and C-13 NMR and electrochemical studies. The physico chemical properties of 1,1'-bis(propylthio) ferrocene are discussed by a molecular approach at the extended Huckel level

Percolation properties of the 2D Heisenberg model
We analyze the percolation properties of certain clusters defined on
configurations of the 2--dimensional Heisenberg model. We find that, given any
direction \vec{n} in O(3) space, the spins almost perpendicular to \vec{n} form
a percolating cluster. This result gives indications of how the model can avoid
a previously conjectured Kosterlitz-Thouless phase transition at finite

Thiamethoxam soil contaminations reduce fertility of soil-dwelling beetles, Aethina tumida.
There in increasing evidence for recent global insect declines. This is of major concern as insects play a critical role in ecosystem functionality and human food security. Even though environmental pollutants are known to reduce insect fertility, their potential effects on insect fitness remain poorly understood - especially for soil-dwelling species. Here, we show that fertility of soil-dwelling beetles, Aethina tumida, is reduced, on average, by half due to field-realistic neonicotinoid soil contaminations. In the laboratory, pupating beetles were exposed via soil to concentrations of the neonicotinoid thiamethoxam that reflect global pollution of agricultural and natural habitats. Emerged adult phenotypes and reproduction were measured, and even the lowest concentration reported from natural habitats reduced subsequent reproduction by 50%. The data are most likely a conservative estimate as the beetles were only exposed during pupation. Since the tested concentrations reflect ubiquitous soil pollution, the data reveal a plausible mechanism for ongoing insect declines. An immediate reduction in environmental pollutants is urgently required if our aim is to mitigate the prevailing loss of species biodiversity
Evidence of Two Distinct Dynamic Critical Exponents in Connection with Vortex Physics
The dynamic critical exponent is determined from numerical simulations
for the three-dimensional (3D) lattice Coulomb gas (LCG) and the 3D XY models
with relaxational dynamics. It is suggested that the dynamics is characterized
by two distinct dynamic critical indices and related to the
divergence of the relaxation time by and
, where is the correlation length and the
wavevector. The values determined are and for the
3D LCG and and for the 3D XY model. It is argued
that the nonlinear exponent relates to , whereas the usual
Hohenberg-Halperin classification relates to . Possible implications for the
interpretation of experiments are pointed out. Comparisons with other existing

Observation of a New Type of Low Frequency Waves at Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko
We report on magnetic field measurements made in the innermost coma of
67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko in its low activity state. Quasi-coherent,
large-amplitude (), compressional magnetic field
oscillations at 40 mHz dominate the immediate plasma environment of the
nucleus. This differs from previously studied comet-interaction regions where
waves at the cometary ion gyro-frequencies are the main feature. Thus classical
pick-up ion driven instabilities are unable to explain the observations. We
propose a cross-field current instability associated with newborn cometary ion
