Spatio-Temporal networks for few-shot video segmentation with annotation guidance
The project is dealing with the task of video semantic segmentation with respect to labeled
data annotated by the user to indicate the underlying semantic classes. The current
paradigm for segmentation methods and benchmark datasets is to segment objects in video
provided a single annotation in the first frame. Instead we extend this setup to multiple
annotated data, specifically, two different scenarios are proposed: having two annotated
frames and having pixel-level annotations. For each of these settings, solutions have been
explored, inspired by active learning, to offer guidance for choosing which data, whether
frames or pixels, should be suitable for annotation. To achieve it, we will rely on previous
works based on spatio-temporal networks for video object segmentation, an actual stateof-the-art approach. For each approach, an adaptation of the inference is done in order
to be able to exploit the new data. Finally, different selection criteria will be explored
based on the confidence predictions and uncertainty. When applying a selection criteria
to choose which frame to annotate, the performance improves reasonably, in particular,
we get up to 89% in segmentation performance on the DAVIS benchmark. When dealing
with pixels, qualitative results do not increase as much, achieving over 87% on DAVIS17
when annotating around 100 and 200 pixels. Comparing both methods, we see that in
some cases, annotating pixels is better considering the trade-off between the annotation
cost and the percentage of improved segmentation
Concentration, Hold-Up and Information Revelation in Bank Lending: Evidence From Chilean Firms
In this paper we empirically study bank-client relationships using a sample of Chilean manufacturing firms. We examine whether concentration and the duration of bank-firm relationships affect the volume of bank lending. Our results indicate that lower concentration, measured by the number of banks a firm borrows from, is associated with a large and positive effect on borrowing. The length of borrower-lender relationships has a positive -although not always statistically significant- effect on the amount borrowed.
Speed of evolution in entangled fermionic systems
We consider the simplest identical-fermion system that exhibits the
phenomenon of entanglement (beyond exchange correlations) to analyze its speed
of evolution towards an orthogonal state, and revisit the relation between this
latter and the amount of fermionic entanglement. A characterization of the
quantum speed limit and the orthogonality times is performed, throwing light
into the general structure of the faster and the slower states. Such
characterization holds not only for fermionic composites, but apply more
generally to a wide family of 6-dimensional states, irrespective of the
specific nature of the system. Further, it is shown that the connection between
speed of evolution and entanglement in the fermionic system, though more subtle
than in composites of distinguishable parties, may indeed manifest for certain
classes of states
Dynamics of closed quantum systems under stochastic resetting
We consider a closed quantum system subject to a stochastic resetting
process. The generic expression for the resulting density operator is
formulated for arbitrary resetting dynamics, fully characterised by the
distribution of times between consecutive reset events. We analyse the
behaviour of the state in the long-time regime, as well as the evolution of
relevant quantities in the study of quantum coherence and closed- vs
open-system dynamics. Our general results are complemented with examples
involving paradigmatic resetting distributions, and special attention is paid
to the two-level (qubit) system, in which we elucidate the effects of the
renewal process on the speed of evolution toward an orthogonal state, and gain
insight into the resetting applied to open systems.Comment: An analysis of closed quantum system subject to arbitrary stochastic
resetting process is carried ou
