    ISM gas studies towards the TeV PWN HESS J1825-137 and northern region

    HESS J1825-137 is a pulsar wind nebula (PWN) whose TeV emission extends across ~1 deg. Its large asymmetric shape indicates that its progenitor supernova interacted with a molecular cloud located in the north of the PWN as detected by previous CO Galactic survey (e.g Lemiere, Terrier & Djannati-Ata\"i 2006). Here we provide a detailed picture of the ISM towards the region north of HESS J1825-137, with the analysis of the dense molecular gas from our 7mm and 12mm Mopra survey and the more diffuse molecular gas from the Nanten CO(1-0) and GRS 13^{13}CO(1-0) surveys. Our focus is the possible association between HESS J1825-137 and the unidentified TeV source to the north, HESS J1826-130. We report several dense molecular regions whose kinematic distance matched the dispersion measured distance of the pulsar. Among them, the dense molecular gas located at (RA, Dec)=(18.421h,-13.282∘^{\circ}) shows enhanced turbulence and we suggest that the velocity structure in this region may be explained by a cloud-cloud collision scenario. Furthermore, the presence of a Hα\alpha rim may be the first evidence of the progenitor SNR of the pulsar PSR J1826-1334 as the distance between the Hα\alpha rim and the TeV source matched with the predicted SNR radius RSNR_{\text{SNR}}~120 pc. From our ISM study, we identify a few plausible origins of the HESS J1826-130 emission, including the progenitor SNR of PSR J1826-1334 and the PWN G018.5-0.4 powered by PSR J1826-1256. A deeper TeV study however, is required to fully identify the origin of this mysterious TeV source.Comment: 19 figures, 27 pages, accepted by MNRA

    Valley filtering and spatial maps of coupling between silicon donors and quantum dots

    Exchange coupling is a key ingredient for spin-based quantum technologies since it can be used to entangle spin qubits and create logical spin qubits. However, the influence of the electronic valley degree of freedom in silicon on exchange interactions is presently the subject of important open questions. Here we investigate the influence of valleys on exchange in a coupled donor/quantum dot system, a basic building block of recently proposed schemes for robust quantum information processing. Using a scanning tunneling microscope tip to position the quantum dot with sub-nm precision, we find a near monotonic exchange characteristic where lattice-aperiodic modulations associated with valley degrees of freedom comprise less than 2~\% of exchange. From this we conclude that intravalley tunneling processes that preserve the donor's ±x\pm x and ±y\pm y valley index are filtered out of the interaction with the ±z\pm z valley quantum dot, and that the ±x\pm x and ±y\pm y intervalley processes where the electron valley index changes are weak. Complemented by tight-binding calculations of exchange versus donor depth, the demonstrated electrostatic tunability of donor/QD exchange can be used to compensate the remaining intravalley ±z\pm z oscillations to realise uniform interactions in an array of highly coherent donor spins.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, 6 pages Supplemental Materia

    - Ce travail s'inscrit comme outil dans le cadre de la reconstruction 3D à l'aide d'une projection de lumière structurée couplée à une caméra 3CCD. Le principe est simple : il faut disposer une caméra 3CCD et un vidéo-projecteur comme un système de stéréovision classique, devant la scène à étudier. L'utilisation d'une lumière structurée lève beaucoup d'ambiguïtés par rapport à un système de stéréovision à deux caméras. Par contre, l'utilisation de la couleur pour coder la projection réduit le champ d'action du système aux objets blancs ou pâles. Pour pouvoir déterminer la couleur en même temps que la reconstruction 3D de l'objet, il faut avoir des images couleurs parfaitement nettoyées. Nous allons donc décrire une méthode de prétraitements des images couleurs issues de la caméra 3CCD utilisée. Les images ainsi traitées peuvent être utilisées dans le modèle couleur que nous suivrons pour remonter aux informations de couleur de l'éclairage structuré pour lever les ambiguïtés de mise en correspondance, ainsi qu 'à la couleur de la scène aux points considérés

    Molecular Clouds associated with the Type Ia SNR N103B in the Large Magellanic Cloud

    N103B is a Type Ia supernova remnant (SNR) in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). We carried out new 12^{12}CO(JJ = 3-2) and 12^{12}CO(JJ = 1-0) observations using ASTE and ALMA. We have confirmed the existence of a giant molecular cloud (GMC) at VLSRV_\mathrm{LSR} ∼\sim245 km s−1^{-1} towards the southeast of the SNR using ASTE 12^{12}CO(JJ = 3-2) data at an angular resolution of ∼\sim25"" (∼\sim6 pc in the LMC). Using the ALMA 12^{12}CO(JJ = 1-0) data, we have spatially resolved CO clouds along the southeastern edge of the SNR with an angular resolution of ∼\sim1.8"" (∼\sim0.4 pc in the LMC). The molecular clouds show an expanding gas motion in the position-velocity diagram with an expansion velocity of ∼5\sim5 km s−1^{-1}. The spatial extent of the expanding shell is roughly similar to that of the SNR. We also find tiny molecular clumps in the directions of optical nebula knots. We present a possible scenario that N103B exploded in the wind-bubble formed by the accretion winds from the progenitor system, and is now interacting with the dense gas wall.     We describe how to find period integrals and Picard-Fuchs differential equations for certain one-parameter families of Calabi-Yau manifolds. These families can be seen as varieties over a finite field, in which case we show in an explicit example that the number of points of a generic element can be given in terms of p-adic period integrals. We also discuss several approaches to finding zeta functions of mirror manifolds and their factorizations.
