Supercurrent on a vortex core in 2H-NbSe2_2: current driven scanning tunneling spectroscopy

We report current driven scanning tunneling spectroscopy (CDSTS) measurements at very low temperatures on vortices in 2H-NbSe2. We find that a current produces an increase of the density of states at the Fermi level in between vortices, and a reduction of the zero bias peak at the vortex center. This occurs well below the de-pairing current. We conclude that a supercurrent affects the low energy part of the superconducting gap structure of 2H-NbSe2.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure

Experimental demonstration of digital predistortion for orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing-radio over fibre links near laser resonance

Radio over fibre (RoF), an enabling technology for distribution of wireless broadband service signals through analogue optical links, suffers from non-linear distortion. Digital predistortion has been demonstrated as an effective approach to overcome the RoF non-linearity. However, questions remain as to how the approach performs close to laser resonance, a region of significant dynamic non-linearity, and how resilient the approach is to changes in input signal and link operating conditions. In this work, the performance of a digital predistortion approach is studied for directly modulated orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing RoF links operating from 2.47 to 3.7 GHz. It extends previous works to higher frequencies, and to higher quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) levels. In addition, the resilience of the predistortion approach to changes in modulation level of QAM schemes, and average power levels are investigated, and a novel predistortion training approach is proposed and demonstrated. Both memoryless and memory polynomial predistorter models, and a simple off-line least-squares-based identification method, are used, with excellent performance improvements demonstrated up to 3.0 GHz

Scalar fields in the Lense-Thirring background with a cosmic string and Hawking radiation

We analyze the influence of the gravitational field produced by a slowly rotating black hole with a cosmic string along the axis of symmetry on a massive scalar field. Exact solutions of both angular and radial parts of the Klein-Gordon equation in this spacetime are obtained, and are given in terms of the confluent Heun functions. We emphasize the role of the presence of the cosmic string in these solutions. We also investigate the solutions in regions near and far from the event horizon. From the radial solution, we obtain the exact wave solutions near the exterior horizon of the black hole, and discuss the Hawking radiation of massive scalar particles.Comment: 6 page

Analytical and numerical studies of disordered spin-1 Heisenberg chains with aperiodic couplings

We investigate the low-temperature properties of the one-dimensional spin-1 Heisenberg model with geometric fluctuations induced by aperiodic but deterministic coupling distributions, involving two parameters. We focus on two aperiodic sequences, the Fibonacci sequence and the 6-3 sequence. Our goal is to understand how these geometric fluctuations modify the physics of the (gapped) Haldane phase, which corresponds to the ground state of the uniform spin-1 chain. We make use of different adaptations of the strong-disorder renormalization-group (SDRG) scheme of Ma, Dasgupta and Hu, widely employed in the study of random spin chains, supplemented by quantum Monte Carlo and density-matrix renormalization-group numerical calculations, to study the nature of the ground state as the coupling modulation is increased. We find no phase transition for the Fibonacci chain, while we show that the 6-3 chain exhibits a phase transition to a gapless, aperiodicity-dominated phase similar to the one found for the aperiodic spin-1/2 XXZ chain. Contrary to what is verified for random spin-1 chains, we show that different adaptations of the SDRG scheme may lead to different qualitative conclusions about the nature of the ground state in the presence of aperiodic coupling modulations.Comment: Accepted for publication in Physical Review
