(cursos académicos 2002-2003 y 2003-2004) y sometidas a
un análisis interdisciplinar: jurídico, sociológico y pedagógico

A Mechanism for Ferrimagnetism and Incommensurability in One-Dimensional Systems
A mechanism for ferrimagnetism in
(1+1)-dimensions is discussed. The ferrimagnetism is cased by interactions
described by operators with non-zero conformal spin. Such interactions appear
in such problems as the problem of tunneling between Luttinger liquids and the
problem of frustrated spin ladder. I present exact solutions for a
representative class of models containing such interactions together with a
simple mean field analysis. It is shown that the interactions (i) dynamically
generate static oscillations with a wave vector dependent on the coupling
constant, (ii) give rise to a finite magnetic moment at accompanied by
the soft mode with a non-relativistic ({\it ferromagnetic}) dispersion , (iii) generate massive (roton) modes.Comment: replaced by the extended version, references adde
Multiflavor Correlation Functions in non-Abelian Gauge Theories at Finite Density in two dimensions
We compute vacuum expectation values of products of fermion bilinears for
two-dimensional Quantum Chromodynamics at finite flavored fermion densities. We
introduce the chemical potential as an external charge distribution within the
path-integral approach and carefully analyse the contribution of different
topological sectors to fermion correlators. We show the existence of chiral
condensates exhibiting an oscillatory inhomogeneous behavior as a function of a
chemical potential matrix. This result is exact and goes in the same direction
as the behavior found in QCD_4 within the large N approximation.Comment: 28 pages Latex (3 pages added and other minor changes) to appear in

Effective String Theory of Vortices and Regge Trajectories
Starting from a field theory containing classical vortex solutions, we obtain
an effective string theory of these vortices as a path integral over the two
transverse degrees of freedom of the string. We carry out a semiclassical
expansion of this effective theory, and use it to obtain corrections to Regge
trajectories due to string fluctuations.Comment: 27 pages, revtex, 3 figures, corrected an error with the cutoff in

Low-Temperature Thermodynamics of and su(3)-invariant Spin Chains
We formulate the thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz (TBA) equations for the closed
(periodic boundary conditions) quantum spin chain in an external
magnetic field, in the (noncritical) regime where the anisotropy parameter
is real. In the limit , we recover the TBA equations of the
antiferromagnetic su(3)-invariant chain in the fundamental representation. We
solve these equations for low temperature and small field, and calculate the
specific heat and magnetic susceptibility.Comment: 31 pages, UMTG-16
Lateral absorption measurements of InAs/GaAs quantum dots stacks: Potential as intermediate band material for high efficiency solar cells
Prototypes based on InAs/GaAs QDs have been manufactured in order to realize the theoretically predicted high efficiency intermediate band solar cells (IBSCs). Unfortunately, until now, these prototypes have not yet demonstrated the expected increase in efficiency when compared with reference samples without IB material. One of the main arguments explaining this performance is the weak photon absorption in the QD-IB material, arising from a low density of QDs. In this work, we have analyzed the absorption coefficient of the IB material by developing a sample in an optical wave-guided configuration. This configuration allows us to illuminate the QDs laterally, increasing the path length for photon absorption. Using a multi-section metal contact device design, we were able to measure an absorption coefficient of ∼100 cm−1 around the band edge (∼1 eV ) defined by the transition in InAs/GaAs QD-IB materials. This figure, and its influence on the IBSC concept, is analyzed for this system
