Expectations and the behaviour of Spanish treasury bill rates

    Get PDF
Rational Expectations models are tested here under the standard assumptions of the Expectations Hypothesis (EH) of interest rates. We examine the theoretical unbiasedness of the spread of interest rates by predicting changes in the shorter spot rates. Unit root tests are applied and VAR systems are specified as a framework to apply Johansen's Maximum Likelihood Cointegration Analysis. Homogeneity and exogeneity tests are also carried out. Finally, we provide some Vector Error Correction Models (VECM) to determine the significance of the main assertions of the EH. Our VECM are coherent with the EH. We conclude that, by providing stability and strengthening the monetary transmission mechanism, the Spanish Treasury bills played a very relevant role in the monetary policy applied in Spain in order to enter the EMU.

    Supercurvaton

We discuss observational consequences of the curvaton scenario, which naturally appears in the context of the simplest model of chaotic inflation in supergravity. The non-gaussianity parameter f_NL in this scenario can take values in the observationally interesting range from O(10) to O(100). These values may be different in different parts of the universe. The regions where f_NL is particularly large form a curvaton web resembling a net of thick domain walls, strings, or global monopoles.Comment: 17 pages, 1 figure. Non-perturbative effects related to non-gaussianity in the curvaton scenario are discussed, some references are added. This is the version accepted in JCA

Physical and mechanical properties of the slag after the initial processing – thermal (thermal shock) and mechanical impact on the melt, the dump slag inclination to disintegration – structural transformations and the possible kinds of mechanical processing to produce different types of slag products were analyzed. Technological scheme of dump slag (it can also be applied to the current release slags) with metal extraction and of slag products wide range, including cementations materials were given

    GLOBALIZATION AND ITS REGIONAL CONSEQUENCES

The article gives a review of the main trends of globalization development in the modern world in close interdependence with region-nalization processes. The author analyses the social and human problems of the development of Ukrainian regions in the context of their role in retaining the state national identity in the globalized world. Scientific and methodological recommendations as for the formation of a new strategy of the social and economic development of Ukraine and its regions in the context of globalization processes have been given as well.Globalization; Integration; Regionalization; Scientific and technical policy; Innovation development; Regional policy

    Perturbations in k-inflation

    Get PDF
We extend the theory of cosmological perturbations to the case when the ``matter'' Lagrangian is an arbitrary function of the scalar field and its first derivatives. In particular, this extension provides a unified description of known cases such as the usual scalar field and the hydrodynamical perfect fluid. In addition, it applies to the recently proposed k-inflation, which is driven by non-minimal kinetic terms in the Lagrangian. The spectrum of quantum fluctuations for slow-roll and power law k-inflation is calculated. We find, for instance, that the usual ``consistency relation'' between the tensor spectral index and the relative amplitude of scalar and tensor perturbations is modified. Thus, at least in principle, k-inflation is phenomenologically distinguishable from standard inflation.Comment: 12 pages, LaTe

Triplet Production by Linearly Polarized Photons

The process of electron-positron pair production by linearly polarized photons is used as a polarimeter to perform mobile measurement of linear photon polarization. In the limit of high photon energies, omega, the distributions of the recoil-electron momentum and azimuthal angle do not depend on the photon energy in the laboratory frame. We calculate the power corrections of order m/omega to the above distributions and estimate the deviation from the asymptotic result for various values of omega.Comment: LaTeX2e, 13 pages, 5 figure files (eps), submitted to Phys. Quasidifferentiable Functions: Necessary Conditions and Descent Directions

    Get PDF
In this paper the author studies the necessary conditions for an extremum when either the function to be optimized or the function describing the set on which optimization must be carried out is nondifferentiable. The author's main concern is with quasidifferentiable functions but smooth and convex cases are also discussed
