    Relativistic calculations of isotope shifts in highly charged ions

    The isotope shifts of forbidden transitions in Be- and B-like argon ions are calculated. It is shown that only using the relativistic recoil operator can provide a proper evaluation of the mass isotope shift, which strongly dominates over the field isotope shift for the ions under consideration. Comparing the isotope shifts calculated with the current experimental uncertainties indicates very good perspectives for a first test of the relativistic theory of the recoil effect in middle-Z ions

    Relativistic nuclear recoil corrections to the energy levels of hydrogen-like and high ZZ lithium like atoms in all orders in αZ\alpha Z

    The relativistic nuclear recoil corrections to the energy levels of low-laying states of hydrogen-like and high ZZ lithium-like atoms in all orders in αZ\alpha Z are calculated. The calculations are carried out using the B-spline method for the Dirac equation. For low ZZ the results of the calculation are in good agreement with the αZ\alpha Z -expansion results. It is found that the nuclear recoil contribution, additional to the Salpeter's one, to the Lamb shift (n=2n=2) of hydrogen is 1.32(6)kHz-1.32(6)\,kHz. The total nuclear recoil correction to the energy of the (1s)22p12(1s)22s(1s)^{2}2p_{\frac{1}{2}}-(1s)^{2}2s transition in lithium-like uranium constitutes 0.07eV-0.07\,eV and is largely made up of QED contributions.Comment: 19 pages, latex, accepted for publication in Phys.     Measurement of omega meson parameters in pi^+pi^-pi^0 decay mode with CMD-2

    About 11 200 e^+e^- -> omega -> pi^+pi^-pi^0 events selected in the center of mass energy range from 760 to 810 MeV were used for the measurement of the \omega meson parameters. The following results have been obtained: sigma _{0}=(1457 \pm 23 \pm 19)nb, m_{\omega}=(782.71 \pm 0.07 \pm 0.04) MeV/c^{2}, \Gamma_{\omega}=(8.68 \pm 0.23 \pm 0.10) MeV, \Gamma_{e^+e^-}\cdot Br (\omega -> pi^+pi^-pi^0)= (0.528 \pm 0.012 \pm 0.007) \cdot 10^{-3} MeV.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure

    Bounds on second generation scalar leptoquarks from the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon

    We calculate the contribution of second generation scalar leptoquarks to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon (AMMM). In the near future, E-821 at Brookhaven will reduce the experimental error on this parameter to Δaμexp<4×1010\Delta a_\mu^{\rm exp}<4\times 10^{-10}, an improvement of 20 over its current value. With this new experimental limit we obtain a lower mass limit of mΦL>186m_{\Phi_L}>186\ GeV for the second generation scalar leptoquark, when its Yukawa-like coupling λΦL\lambda_{\Phi_L}\ to quarks and leptons is taken to be of the order of the electroweak coupling g2g_2.Comment: 5 pages, plain tex, 1 figure (not included available under request

    Cross section of the reaction e+eπ+ππ+πe^+ e^- \to \pi^+\pi^-\pi^+\pi^- below 1 GeV at CMD-2

    Using 3.07 pb1{pb}^{-1} of data collected in the energy range 0.60-0.97 GeV by CMD-2, about 150 events of the process \epm \to \pch have been selected. The energy dependence of the cross section agrees with the assumption of the a1(1260)πa_1(1260) \pi intermediate state which is dominant above 1 GeV. For the first time \fourpi events are observed at the ρ\rho meson energy. Under the assumption that all these events come from the ρ\rho meson decay, the value of the cross section at the ρ\rho meson peak corresponds to the following decay width: \Gamma(\rho^0 \to \fourpi) = (2.8 \pm 1.4 \pm 0.5) {keV} or to the branching ratio B(\rho^0 \to \fourpi) = (1.8 \pm 0.9 \pm 0.3) \cdot 10 ^{-5}.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figure

    Fine Structure of Avalanches in the Abelian Sandpile Model

    We study the two-dimensional Abelian Sandpile Model on a square lattice of linear size L. We introduce the notion of avalanche's fine structure and compare the behavior of avalanches and waves of toppling. We show that according to the degree of complexity in the fine structure of avalanches, which is a direct consequence of the intricate superposition of the boundaries of successive waves, avalanches fall into two different categories. We propose scaling ans\"{a}tz for these avalanche types and verify them numerically. We find that while the first type of avalanches has a simple scaling behavior, the second (complex) type is characterized by an avalanche-size dependent scaling exponent. This provides a framework within which one can understand the failure of a consistent scaling behavior in this model.Comment: 10 page

    Study of KS KL Coupled Decays and KL -Be Interactions with the CMD-2 Detector at VEPP-2M Collider

    The integrated luminosity about 4000 inverse nanobarn of around phi meson mass ( 5 millions of phi mesons) has been collected with the CMD-2 detector at the VEPP-2M collider. A latest analysis of the KS KL coupled decays based on 30 % of available data is presented in this paper. The KS KL pairs from phi meson decays were reconstructed in the drift chamber when both kaons decayed into two charged particles. From a sample of 1423 coupled decays a selection of candidates to the CP violating KL into pi+ pi- decay was performed. CP violating decays were not identified because of the domination of events with a KL regenerating at the Be beam pipe into KS and a background from KL semileptonic decays. The regeneration cross section of 110 MeV/c KL mesons was found to be 53 +- 17 mb in agreement with theoretical expectations. The angular distribution of KS mesons after regeneration and the total cross section of KL for Be have been measured.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figure
