Synchronization of spiral wave patterns in two-layer 2D lattices of nonlocally coupled discrete oscillators

This article appeared in Chaos 29, 053105 (2019) and may be found at https://doi.org/10.1063/1.5092352.The paper describes the effects of mutual and external synchronization of spiral wave structures in two coupled two-dimensional lattices of coupled discrete-time oscillators. Each lattice is given by a 2D N×N network of nonlocally coupled Nekorkin maps which model neuronal activity. We show numerically that spiral wave structures, including spiral wave chimeras, can be synchronized and establish the mechanism of the synchronization scenario. Our numerical studies indicate that when the coupling strength between the lattices is sufficiently weak, only a certain part of oscillators of the interacting networks is imperfectly synchronized, while the other part demonstrates a partially synchronous behavior. If the spatiotemporal patterns in the lattices do not include incoherent cores, imperfect synchronization is realized for most oscillators above a certain value of the coupling strength. In the regime of spiral wave chimeras, the imperfect synchronization of all oscillators cannot be achieved even for sufficiently large values of the coupling strength.DFG, 163436311, SFB 910: Kontrolle selbstorganisierender nichtlinearer Systeme: Theoretische Methoden und Anwendungskonzept

Characteristic of Stomach Ulcers, Complicated by Bleeding
Background. The benign nature of the gastric ulcer, determined during the initial video esophagogastroduodenoscopy (VEGD) in the presence of a hemorrhage or under the conditions of unstable hemostasis, is not a permanent characteristic of the pathological process, since most examinations do not include multifocal biopsy due to the danger of recurrent bleeding. Objectives: to evaluate the inflammatory changes, regenerative abilities of the peri-ulcer area and to predict malignization in the nearest post-hemorrhagic period.Methods. The work contains the examination data (VEGD, brush biopsy, morphological and immunohistochemical examinations) of 49 patients urgently admitted to the surgery with gastrointestinal bleeding, and further verification of gastric ulcer. Entry criteria were bleeding of the ulcer in the gastric mucosa, located in the antrum or the lesser curve with low risk of recurrent bleeding (Forrest 2C), presence of Helicobacter pylori.Results. Brush biopsy allowed determining the benign nature of ulcerative lesions in 98 % of the patients during the two-day period following the first VEGD. Morphological study revealed dysplasia at the edge of ulcerative lesion with first signs of regeneration in 14.3 % of the patients. In the presence of dysplasia, we noted a vibrant response (+++) with COX-2 (×400), even if the ulcerous defect was smaller than 1.0 cm.Conclusion. Considering our results, it is necessary to develop a strict algorithm for dynamic follow-up of patients with gastric ulcers, complicated by bleeding
Modern possibilities and prospects of early diagnosis of stomach cancer
The review includes 70 articles, most of which have been published for the last 5 years. The aim of the review: explore the modern possibilities and prospects of early diagnosis of stomach cancer. In 2018 in Russia, the mortality rate within one year after the diagnosis was 47.4%. Leading experts in luminal endoscopy from Japan, where more than 60% cases of stomach cancer are detected at an early stage, recommend using advanced endoscopic equipment for routine diagnostics, which allows enlarging the image, examining the capillaries of the mucosa and taking series of pictures. Artificial intelligence improves accuracy. Gastroscopic study with artificial intelligence compensates errors and limited capabilities of people, and provides greater accuracy. However, this technology is expensive, and esophagogastroduodenoscopy itself is an invasive method and can be used only in a clinical setting. In patients with a detectable lesion, a biopsy should be performed. It is important to obtain a sufficient amount of tissue when collecting material, however, many patients take anticoagulants, and thus sampling of numerous fragments can lead to bleeding. Given the limitations of esophagogastroduodenoscopy with biopsy and the fact that only 12.4% cases of stomach cancer in 2018 in Russia identified on the stage I, the searching of effective diagnostic tools is still relevant. MicroRNAs have been in the «cancer research arena» for over 10 years and are considered biomarkers that can help to differentiate between the patients with normal range, dysplasia and those with cancer. MicroRNA regulates all vital processes of a cell, moreover, they are stable and easily extracted from various biological materials, including tissues, blood, feces, saliva, ascitic fluid and even paraffin blocks. And although microRNAs are only entering clinical practice, the results obtained are encouraging

Observation of Stochastic Resonance in Percolative Josephson Media
Measurements of the electrical response of granular Sn-Ge thin films below
the superconducting transition temperature are reported. The addition of an
external noise to the magnetic field applied to the sample is found to increase
the sample voltage response to a small externally applied ac signal. The gain
coefficient for this signal and the signal-to-noise ratio display clear maxima
at particular noise levels. We interpret these observations as a stochastic
resonance in the percolative Josephson media which occurs close to the
percolation threshold.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
