Basic Chemical Models of Nonideal Atomic Plasma

The concept of basic chemical models is introduced, which is new from the standpoint of the physics of nonideal atomic plasma. This concept is based on the requirement of full conformity of the expression for free energy in the chemical model of plasma to exact asymptotic expansions obtained in the grand canonical ensemble within the physical model of plasma. The thermodynamic functions and equations of state and ionization equilibrium are obtained for three basic chemical models differing from one another by the choice of the atomic partition function. Comparison is made with the experimental results for nonideal plasma of cesium and inert gases. It is demonstrated that the best fit to experiment is shown by the results obtained using a basic chemical model with atomic partition function in the nearest neighbor approximation with classical determination of the size of excited atom.Comment: 18 pages, 10 gigure

    Get PDF
The article examines the ecological and economic mechanism for the elimination of accumulated environmental damage (NEU) in the Arctic, the development of recommendations for further improvement of such a mechanism, including programmatic methods. The issues of the state of the environment and environmental safety in the Arctic zone of Russia are considered. The main attention is paid to the formation of a program to eliminate NEU on polluted islands and other territories. The results obtained were included in the development of the Program for the Elimination of Accumulated Environmental Damage on the Polluted Islands of the Franz Josef Land Archipelago, and in the preparation of proposals for the further planning and organization of cleanup work. In general, the cleaning of the islands, carried out in the period 2012–2017, showed high performance. It is necessary to expand this type of work in other contaminated areas located in the Arctic, to develop a special program “Ecological safety of the Arctic zone”, to develop scientific research on Arctic topicsВ статье исследуются эколого-экономический механизм ликвидации накопленного экологического ущерба (НЭУ) в Арктике, разработка рекомендаций по дальнейшему совершенствованию такого механизма, включая программные методы.

Challenges in QCD matter physics - The Compressed Baryonic Matter experiment at FAIR

Substantial experimental and theoretical efforts worldwide are devoted to explore the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter. At LHC and top RHIC energies, QCD matter is studied at very high temperatures and nearly vanishing net-baryon densities. There is evidence that a Quark-Gluon-Plasma (QGP) was created at experiments at RHIC and LHC. The transition from the QGP back to the hadron gas is found to be a smooth cross over. For larger net-baryon densities and lower temperatures, it is expected that the QCD phase diagram exhibits a rich structure, such as a first-order phase transition between hadronic and partonic matter which terminates in a critical point, or exotic phases like quarkyonic matter. The discovery of these landmarks would be a breakthrough in our understanding of the strong interaction and is therefore in the focus of various high-energy heavy-ion research programs. The Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at FAIR will play a unique role in the exploration of the QCD phase diagram in the region of high net-baryon densities, because it is designed to run at unprecedented interaction rates. High-rate operation is the key prerequisite for high-precision measurements of multi-differential observables and of rare diagnostic probes which are sensitive to the dense phase of the nuclear fireball. The goal of the CBM experiment at SIS100 (sqrt(s_NN) = 2.7 - 4.9 GeV) is to discover fundamental properties of QCD matter: the phase structure at large baryon-chemical potentials (mu_B > 500 MeV), effects of chiral symmetry, and the equation-of-state at high density as it is expected to occur in the core of neutron stars. In this article, we review the motivation for and the physics programme of CBM, including activities before the start of data taking in 2022, in the context of the worldwide efforts to explore high-density QCD matter.Comment: 15 pages, 11 figures. Production of {\pi}+ and K+ mesons in argon-nucleus interactions at 3.2 AGeV

First physics results of the BM@N experiment at the Nuclotron/NICA complex are presented on {\pi}+ and K+ meson production in interactions of an argon beam with fixed targets of C, Al, Cu, Sn and Pb at 3.2 AGeV. Transverse momentum distributions, rapidity spectra and multiplicities of {\pi}+ and K+ mesons are measured. The results are compared with predictions of theoretical models and with other measurements at lower energies.Comment: 29 pages, 20 figure

The diagnosis and treatment of neonates and infants with posterior urethral valves

    No full text
In January 2009 to December 2013, the N.F. Filatov Children’s City Clinical Hospital (CCCH) Thirteen gave 357 consultations to pregnant women with fetal urinary tract abnormalities and identified the signs of infravesical obstruction in 27 fetuses of 28–32 weeks of gestation. During the first 24 hours of life, these babies were urgently admitted from maternity hospitals to the Unit for Surgery of Neonates and Premature Babies for further examination and treatment. The diagnosis was verified by miction cystourethrography that showed posterior urethral enlargement. Comprehensive X-ray urological examination and blood biochemical tests were carried out in the unit to evaluate renal function. For additional assessment of the latter, urinary enzymes and β2-microglobulins were examined and biochemical urinalysis was performed from September 2012. All the infants underwent transurethral resection of a posterior urethral valve. Later on, the babies were followed up and treated in an outpatient setting in the Nephrourological Center, N.F. Filatov CCCH Thirteen. The duration of the follow-up was 1 to 4 years. Analysis of the long-term results of endoscopic correction of ureterovesical segment abnormality shows that the use of mini-invasive treatment options in neonates and infants makes it possible to recover urinary tract urodynamics and bladder evacuation function, to reduce the number of infectious complications, and to prevent reflux nephropathy and chronic kidney disease.</em
