FPGA based data acquisition system for COMPASS experiment
This paper discusses the present data acquisition system (DAQ) of the COMPASS
experiment at CERN and presents development of a new DAQ. The new DAQ must
preserve present data format and be able to communicate with FPGA cards. Parts
of the new DAQ are based on state machines and they are implemented in C++ with
usage of the QT framework, the DIM library, and the IPBus technology. Prototype
of the system is prepared and communication through DIM between parts was
tested. An implementation of the IPBus technology was prepared and tested. The
new DAQ proved to be able to fulfill requirements.Comment: 8 pages, CHEP 201

The Communication Library DIALOG for iFDAQ of the COMPASS Experiment
Modern experiments in high energy physics impose
great demands on the reliability, the efficiency, and the data rate
of Data Acquisition Systems (DAQ). This contribution focuses on
the development and deployment of the new communication library
DIALOG for the intelligent, FPGA-based Data Acquisition System
(iFDAQ) of the COMPASS experiment at CERN. The iFDAQ
utilizing a hardware event builder is designed to be able to readout
data at the maximum rate of the experiment. The DIALOG library is a
communication system both for distributed and mixed environments,
it provides a network transparent inter-process communication layer.
Using the high-performance and modern C++ framework Qt and its
Qt Network API, the DIALOG library presents an alternative to
the previously used DIM library. The DIALOG library was fully
incorporated to all processes in the iFDAQ during the run 2016.
From the software point of view, it might be considered as a
significant improvement of iFDAQ in comparison with the previous
run. To extend the possibilities of debugging, the online monitoring
of communication among processes via DIALOG GUI is a desirable
feature. In the paper, we present the DIALOG library from several
insights and discuss it in a detailed way. Moreover, the efficiency
measurement and comparison with the DIM library with respect to
the iFDAQ requirements is provided

Coulomb Drag of Edge Excitations in the Chern-Simons Theory of the Fractional Quantum Hall Effect
Long range Coulomb interaction between the edges of a Hall bar changes the
nature of the gapless edge excitations. Instead of independent modes
propagating in opposite directions on each edge as expected for a short range
interaction one finds elementary excitations living simultaneously on both
edges, i.e. composed of correlated density waves propagating in the same
direction on opposite edges. We discuss the microscopic features of this
Coulomb drag of excitations in the fractional quantum Hall regime within the
framework of the bosonic Chern-Simons Landau-Ginzburg theory. The dispersion
law of these novel excitations is non linear and depends on the distance
between the edges as well as on the current that flows through the sample. The
latter dependence indicates a possibility of parametric excitation of these
modes. The bulk distributions of the density and currents of the edge

Mesoscopic fluctuations of the ground state spin of a small metal particle
We study the statistical distribution of the ground state spin for an
ensemble of small metallic grains, using a random-matrix toy model. Using the
Hartree Fock approximation, we find that already for interaction strengths well
below the Stoner criterion there is an appreciable probability that the ground
state has a finite, nonzero spin. Possible relations to experiments are

Dynamic cooling strategy based on individual animal response mitigated heat stress in dairy cows
Technological progress enables individual cow's temperatures to be measured in real time, using a bolus sensor inserted into the rumen (reticulorumen). However, current cooling systems often work at a constant schedule based on the ambient temperature and not on monitoring the animal itself. This study hypothesized that tailoring the cooling management to the cow's thermal reaction can mitigate heat stress. We propose a dynamic cooling system based on in vivo temperature sensors (boluses). Thus, cooling can be activated as needed and is thus most efficacious. A total of 30 lactating cows were randomly assigned to one of two groups; the groups received two different evaporative cooling regimes. A control group received cooling sessions on a preset time-based schedule, the method commonly used in farms; and an experimental group, which received the sensor-based (SB) cooling regime. Sensor-based was changed weekly according to the cow's reaction, as reflected in the changes in body temperatures from the previous week, as measured by reticulorumen boluses. The two treatment groups of cows had similar milk yields (44.7 kg/d), but those in the experimental group had higher milk fat (3.65 vs 3.43%), higher milk protein (3.23 vs 3.13%), higher energy corrected milk (ECM, 42.84 vs 41.48 kg/d), higher fat corrected milk 4%; (42.76 vs 41.34 kg/d), and shorter heat stress duration (5.03 vs 9.46 h/day) comparing to the control. Dry matter intake was higher in the experimental group. Daily visits to the feed trough were less frequent, with each visit lasting longer. The sensor-based cooling regime may be an effective tool to detect and ease heat stress in high-producing dairy cows during transitional seasons when heat load can become severe in arid and semi-arid zones
Stereochemical aspects in the synthesis of novel N-(purin-6-yl)dipeptides as potential antimycobacterial agents
The synthesis of purine conjugates with natural amino acids is one of the promising directions in search for novel therapeutic agents, including antimycobacterial agents. The purpose of this study was to synthesize N-(purin-6-yl)dipeptides containing the terminal fragment of (S)-glutamic acid. To obtain the target compounds, two synthetic routes were tested. The first of them is based on coupling of N-(purin-6-yl)-(S)-amino acids to dimethyl (S)-glutamate in the presence of carbodiimide coupling agent followed by the removal of ester groups. However, it turned out that this coupling process was accompanied by racemization of the chiral center of N-(purin-6-yl)-α-amino acids and in all cases led to mixtures of (S,S)- and (R,S)-diastereomers (6:4). Individual (S,S)-diastereomers were obtained using an alternative approach based on the nucleophilic substitution of chlorine in 6-chloropurine or 2-amino-6-chloropurine with corresponding dipeptides as nucleophiles. The enantiomeric purity of the target compounds was confirmed by chiral HPLC. To test the assumption that racemization of the chiral center of N-(purin-6-yl)-α-amino acids occurs with the participation of nitrogen atoms of the imidazole ring via the stage of formation of a chirally labile intermediate, we obtained such structural analogs of N-(purin-6-yl)-(S)-alanine as N-(9-benzylpurin-6-yl)-(S)-alanine and N-(7-deazapurin-6-yl)-(S)-alanine. It was found that coupling of these compounds to dimethyl (S)-glutamate was also accompanied by racemization. This indicates that the imidazole fragment does not play a crucial role in this process. When testing the antimycobacterial activity of some of the obtained compounds, conjugates with moderate activity against the laboratory Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv strain (MIC 3.1–6.25 μg/mL) were identified. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH, AT part of Springer Nature.The work was financially supported by the Russian Science Foundation (Grant 19-13-00231). Equation of state and phase transitions in asymmetric nuclear matter
The structure of the 3-dimension pressure-temperature-asymmetry surface of
equilibrium of the asymmetric nuclear matter is studied within the thermal
Thomas-Fermi approximation. Special attention is paid to the difference of the
asymmetry parameter between the boiling sheet and that of the condensation
sheet of the surface of equilibrium. We derive the condition of existence of
the regime of retrograde condensation at the boiling of the asymmetric nuclear
matter. We have performed calculations of the caloric curves in the case of
isobaric heating. We have shown the presence of the plateau region in caloric
curves at the isobaric heating of the asymmetric nuclear matter. The shape of
the caloric curve depends on the pressure and is sensitive to the value of the
asymmetry parameter. We point out that the experimental value of the plateau
temperature T \approx 7 MeV corresponds to the pressure P = 0.01 MeV/fm^3 at

Synthesis of Pyrimidine Conjugates with 4-(6-Amino-hexanoyl)-7,8-difluoro-3,4-dihydro-3-methyl-2H-[1,4] benzoxazine and Evaluation of Their Antiviral Activity
A series of pyrimidine conjugates containing a fragment of racemic 7,8-difluoro-3,4-dihydro-3-methyl-2H-[1,4]benzoxazine and its (S)-enantiomer attached via a 6-aminohexanoyl fragment were synthesized by the reaction of nucleophilic substitution of chlorine in various chloropyrimidines. The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by1H,19F, and 13 C NMR spectral data. Enantiomeric purity of optically active derivatives was confirmed by chiral HPLC. Antiviral evaluation of the synthesized compounds has shown that the replacement of purine with a pyrimidine fragment leads to a decrease in the anti-herpesvirus activity compared to the lead compound, purine conjugate. The studied compounds did not exhibit significant activity against influenza A (H1N1) virus. © 2022 by the authors.
