AbstractA series of novel 5-methyl-2-phenylthiazole-4-substituted-heteroazole derivatives (6–15) have been synthesized. The structures of these compounds were established by IR, 1HNMR, Mass spectral data and elemental analyses. Compounds were evaluated for their anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities as well as gastric ulcerogenic effects. Derivatives 9, 10, 14 and 15 exhibited moderate to good anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities in carrageenan-induced rat paw edema and acetic acid-induced writhing in mice respectively, with low ulcerogenicity compared with the standard drug diclofenac sodium

Background: Anemia is one of major contributing factor in maternal mortality and morbidity in third world countries and according to the WHO, contributes to 40% maternal deaths. Postpartum anemia is observed in up to 27% of women. It is a common problem throughout the world. Treatment of postpartum iron deficiency anemia includes oral and parenteral iron supplmentaion as well as blood transfusion in severe cases. Methods: This was a prospective longitudinal study carried out in Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology of PRH, Loni. Total 80 women suffering from postpartum anemia of age above 18 years with haemoglobin (HB) level below 11gm/dl and above 6gm/dl were included for the study. After history taking, clinical examination and baseline Hb level, all of them were administered intravenous iron sucrose 200 mg per dose per day till the total calculated dose was administered. The post therapy evaluation was done with the estimation of Hb on day 1, day 7, day 14 and day 21. Results: 31.25% women belonged to the age group each of 19-21 years and 22-24 years. Maximum number of patients received 3 doses of IV Iron sucrose (i.e. total 600mg) followed by 2 doses (i.e. total 400mg), 4 doses (i.e. total 800mg) and 5 doses (i.e. total 1000mg) respectively. Hb level rises extremely significantly (p<0.001) after IV Iron Sucrose administration on day 1, 7, 14 & 21 as compared to corresponding values before delivery as analyzed by Friedman Test (Nonparametric Repeated Measures ANOVA) . 16 patients (20%) experienced thrombophlebitis to IV Iron Sucrose administration. About 12 (15%) patients experienced rigor followed by sweating in 10 patients (12.5%) and fever in 8 patients (10%). About 62 patients (77.5%) from total 80 reported well tolerability to IV Iron Sucrose while remaining 18 patients (22.5%) reported poor tolerability to IV Iron Sucrose Conclusion: Intravenous iron sucrose increases the haemoglobin more rapidly in first week as compared to second and third week in women with postpartum iron deficiency anemia. Hypersensitivity reaction, chest pain, dyspnoea reported with iron dextran and iron sorbitol citric acid were not observed with iron sucrose. Intravenous iron sucrose can be used safely to fill a rift between blood transfusion and oral iron in treatment of postpartum iron deficiency anemia

Hypothyroidism falls within the domain of dhatvagni mandyajanya vyadhi, which is characterized by impaired metabolism at the Dhatu (tissue) level. A sedentary lifestyle combined with high-calorie foods that require little energy expenditure can be the cause of a disrupted metabolism. This case of subclinical hypothyroidism is selected due to its prevalence in the community. A female patient aged 29 years, a nurse by profession presented with chief complaints of fatigue, weight gain, hair loss, irregular menstrual periods, and puffiness of face for four years. She was diagnosed with subclinical hypothyroidism with increased serum thyroid-stimulating hormone levels.  A treatment plan was planned according to the clinical symptoms of the patient. She was treated with ayurvedic internal medications for a period of six months along with udhvartana treatment externally. The combined action of Ayurveda medicines along with udhvartana showed significant relief in the symptoms clinically along with the reduction in the thyroid hormone levels

Background: Wrinkles on the face and aging of the skin are an undesirable effect of photodamage and ultraviolet radiation. Serum has a quick absorption and ability to penetrate deep layers of the skin, as well as a non-oily finish and a deep formula with a very high amount of active ingredients. Methods: In this study, we have formulated and evaluated a face serum containing combination of aqueous extract of fenugreek seed and lemon oil. Results: Facial serum was tested for its pH, physical appearance, viscosity, microbial testing, cyclic temperature test, etc. The results of the stability study show that there was no change in visual acuity, homogeneity. Conclusions: Serum containing Fenugreek extract have been able to cure bacterial infections and inflammations of facial skin, and other signs also moistens the skin without any side effects making skin soft, smooth and supple

Effect of Thermoelectric Cooling in Nanoscale Junctions

We propose a thermoelectric cooling device based on an atomic-sized junction. Using first-principles approaches, we investigate the working conditions and the coefficient of performance (COP) of an atomic-scale electronic refrigerator where the effects of phonon's thermal current and local heating are included. It is observed that the functioning of the thermoelectric nano-refrigerator is restricted to a narrow range of driving voltages. Compared with the bulk thermoelectric system with the overwhelmingly irreversible Joule heating, the 4-Al atomic refrigerator has a higher efficiency than a bulk thermoelectric refrigerator with the same ZTZT due to suppressed local heating via the quasi-ballistic electron transport and small driving voltages. Quantum nature due to the size minimization offered by atomic-level control of properties facilitates electron cooling beyond the expectation of the conventional thermoelectric device theory.Comment: 8 figure
