Exponential and moment inequalities for U-statistics

A Bernstein-type exponential inequality for (generalized) canonical U-statistics of order 2 is obtained and the Rosenthal and Hoffmann-J{\o}rgensen inequalities for sums of independent random variables are extended to (generalized) U-statistics of any order whose kernels are either nonnegative or canonicalComment: 22 page

Hypoalbuminemia and hypovolemia are independent risk factors for the development of multiple organ dysfunction, the main cause of death in critically ill patients. The use of a human albumin (HA) solution in complex of the fluid therapy affects both of these risk factors. However, more than 75 years of experience of HA use by the medical community and numerous clinical studies have proved its safety but did not lead to a consensus on the clinical effectiveness of its use. Thus, questions remain, and in which patients the use of HA is most appropriate. The authors of this review attempted to summarize the knowledge accumulated by the medical community on the use of HA in the practice of intensive care.

VARIATIONAL-INEQUALITIES WITH EXAMPLES AND AN APPLICATION TO THE CENTRAL-LIMIT-THEOREM

    No full text
Upper bounds for the distance in variation between an arbitrary probability measure and the standard normal one are established via some integrodifferential functionals including information. The results are illustrated by gamma- and t-distributions. Moreover, as a by-product, another proof of the central limit theorem is obtained

Rates in the strong invariance principle for ergodic automorphisms of the torus

30 pagesLet T be an ergodic automorphism of the d-dimensional torus. In the spirit of Le Borgne, we give conditions on the Fourier coeffi cients of a real valued function f under which the Birkhoff sums satis fy a strong invariance principle. Next, reinforcing the condition on the Fourier coeffi cients in a natural way, we obtain explicit rates of convergence in the strong invariance principle
