Cold, anisotropically-interacting van der Waals molecule: TiHe

We have used laser ablation and helium buffer-gas cooling to produce the titanium-helium van der Waals molecule at cryogenic temperatures. The molecules were detected through laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy. Ground-state Ti-He binding energies were determined for the ground and first rotationally excited states from studying equilibrium thermodynamic properties, and found to agree well with theoretical calculations based on newly calculated ab initio Ti-He interaction potentials, opening up novel possibilities for studying the formation, dynamics, and non-universal chemistry of van der Waals clusters at low temperatures

Adequacy of Communicating Results From Screening Mammograms to African American and White Women

Objective. We examined whether African American women were as likely as White women to receive the results of a recent mammogram and to self-report results that matched the mammography radiology report (i.e., were adequately communicated). We also sought to determine whether the adequacy of communication was the same for normal and abnormal results. Methods. From a prospective cohort study of mammography screening, we compared self-reported mammogram results, which were collected by telephone interview, to results listed in the radiology record of 411 African American and 734 White women who underwent screening in 5 hospital-based facilities in Connecticut between October 1996 and January 1998. Using multivariate logistic regression, we identified independent predictors of inadequate communication of mammography results. Results. It was significantly more common for African American women to experience inadequate communication of screening mammography results compared with White women, after adjustment for sociodemographic, access-to-care, biomedical, and psychosocial factors. Abnormal mammogram results resulted in inadequate communication for African American women but not White women (P\u3c.001). Conclusions. African American women may not be receiving the full benefit of screening mammograms because of inadequate communication of results, particularly when mammography results are abnormal

Discrimination of Species in the Montastrea annularis Complex using Multiple Genetic Loci

Montastraea annularis, M. franksi and M. faveolata are a complex of recently distinguished coral species whose status remains controversial due to the lack of fixed differences. Here we report on two types of genetic analyses for these taxa: 1) DNA sequences of two nuclear genes [internal transcribed spacers of rDNA (ITS-1, ITS-2) and a ɮ-tubulin intron] and 2) a preliminary screening of the entire nuclear genome using amplified fragment length polymorphisms (AFLP). There was very little variation within or among the three species in DNA sequences. Onlly 3 of 300 nucleotide positions in ITS-1, 3 of the 350 positions in ITS-2, and 3 of 350 positions in the ɮ-tubulin intron had large amounts of polymorphism. At some of these sites there were allele frequency differences among the species, but no diagnostic substitutions. Sequences from polymorphic sites in the ɮ-tubulin intron also showed evidence of heterozygosity. Pilot experiments with AFLP yielded stronger evidence of genetic boundaries among these species. Two AFLP primers gave patterns of band presence or absence that were potentially diagnostic for M. faveolata (n=7) versus M. franksi (n=7); M. annularis (n=4) may also have diagnostic patterns, but the differences between it and M. franksi were quantitative (band intensity) rather than qualitative

Tunable pseudogap Kondo effect and quantum phase transitions in Aharonov-Bohm interferometers

We study two quantum dots embedded in the arms of an Aharonov-Bohm ring threaded by a magnetic flux. The system can be described by an effective one-impurity Anderson model with an energy- and flux-dependent density of states. For specific values of the flux, this density of states vanishes at the Fermi energy, yielding a controlled realization of the pseudogap Kondo effect. The conductance and transmission phase shifts reflect a nontrivial interplay between wave interference and interactions, providing clear signatures of quantum phase transitions between Kondo and non-Kondo ground states.Comment: Published versio

The Effect of Utilitarian Value and Hedonic Value on Teenagers Customer Loyalty at Manado Town Square

Study found adolescent population is growing very rapidly, and trends in the behaviour of teenager consumer shopping styles that consumptive cause marketers interested in knowing the values teenager sought in shopping. By knowing the values, marketers can increase customer loyalty at malls to keep win the market share and be better than competitors. This research focuses on teenager customer loyalty of Manado Town Square. The purpose of this research is to find out the effect of Utilitarian and Hedonic Value on Customer Loyalty in Manado Town Square, simultaneously and partially. This research use quantitative method and the Multiple Regression Analysis. The data in this research is gathered from 100 teenager respondents between 13 until 24 years old by using purposive sampling method. The result of this research is indicated the significant effect of Utilitarian and Hedonic Value on Customer Loyalty partially and simultaneously. The recommendation of this research is for management of Manado Town Square should pay attention to the Utilitarian and Hedonic value to keep the good and long term relationship with customers which can increase Customer Loyalty
