Design and Implementation of Competency Based LIS Pedagogy: An Experiential Approach with DLIS Centre at Rajagiri College of Social Sciences (Autonomous) Kerala, India-A Case Study
Utilization of collective manpower in an effective manner is the key to the success of every organization. LIS Students need to be more practical and trained with intensive and extensive knowledge about the use of IT, Communication as well as Soft skills. A competency-based pedagogy and interdisciplinary approach within the institutions can deal with all these. Pedagogy is the approach to learning, refers to the theory and practice of learning, and how this process influences the social, political and psychological development of learners. LIS schools have redesigned their teaching-learning techniques to a great extent to keep track of the latest updates in the knowledge world. This paper discusses the status, developments and opportunities of library and information science education, curriculum, training and employment opportunities in DLIS at Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kerala, India. It also provides a brief overview of the historical perspective of LIS education and the LIS curriculum development processes in India and Kerala. The paper also discusses the importance of Competency-Based LIS Curriculum and its involvement in the development of professional growth and how interdisciplinary subject approach will help in this process within the campus

Not AvailableGillnets are commonly used in inland lakes due to
their simplicity in construction and operation,
efficiency, and low energy usage. The Vembanad
lake is one of the most prominent lakes in Kerala,
contributing significantly to the small-scale and
artisanal fisheries, in which gillnets are the predominant
gear. There have been studies on the effect of
gillnet panel colour on the selective capture of fish
species, primarily in the open ocean and rivers.
Although a considerable number of studies exist on
the species profile and fish catching methods in the
lake, the efficiency of coloured webbing for gillnets
is not available. The efficiency of coloured webbing
for gillnets is not documented, which, if available,
would be a crucial input for implementing gearbased
technical measures for conservation in gillnets
in the lake. In this regard, a study was conducted
along Vembanad lake and the lower reaches of the
Muvattupuzha river to compare the catch efficiency
and species profile of transparent gillnets typically
employed in the region with gillnets fabricated
using blue and green coloured webbing. The results
demonstrated a considerable increase in CPUE for
green-coloured gillnets (708.9±12.8 grams per operation)
compared to blue and transparent gillnets,
which had CPUE values of 397.9±80.2 and 293.7±70.6
grams per operation, respectively. Significantly
higher catches of Horabagrus brachysoma and Etroplus
suratensis were obtained with the green-coloured
gillnets than with the control (Transparent). Lengthwise
data showed that green-coloured nets captured
larger individuals of E. suratensis, but significant
difference was not observed in other species. The number of E. suratensis captured in each gillnet
contributed to the most dissimilarity in all comparisons,
followed by Gerres sp. and H. brachysoma,
according to similarities percentage analysis conducted
to comprehend the species assemblage
structure. This is the first report on the effect of
gillnet colour on the catch efficiency of gillnets in
Vembanad lake, and the results, which indicate
species-specific differences in capture, will be one
of the many inputs necessary for implementing
gear-based technical measures in the gillnet fishery
in the lake.Not Availabl
Grating-based Dipole Antenna Configuration for High Gain Directional Radiation characteristics
The experimental and simulation studies of the radiation performance enhancement of a dipole antenna using metal strip grating are presented in this paper. The subwavelength imaging configuration of the metal strip grating is utilized for enhancing the radiation performance of a dipole antenna working in the S-band. The resultant design shows a gain of 9 dBi and front to back ratio of the design is found to be -23 dB at resonance. The coupling between electric and magnetic resonances provides the necessary impedance matching performance when the antenna is brought in the vicinity of the grating

Border Collision Route to Quasiperiodicity: Numerical Investigation and Experimental Confirmation
Numerical studies of higher-dimensional piecewise-smooth systems have recently shown how a torus can arise from a periodic cycle through a special type of border-collision bifurcation. The present article investigates this new route to quasiperiodicity in the two-dimensional piecewise-linear normal form map. We have obtained the chart of the dynamical modes for this map and showed that border-collision bifurcations can lead to the birth of a stable closed invariant curve associated with quasiperiodic or periodic dynamics. In the parameter regions leading to the existence of an invariant closed curve, there may be transitions between an ergodic torus and a resonance torus, but the mechanism of creation for the resonance tongues is distinctly different from that observed in smooth maps. The transition from a stable focus point to a resonance torus may lead directly to a new focus of higher periodicity, e.g., a period-5 focus. This article also contains a discussion of torus destruction via a homoclinic bifurcation in the piecewise-linear normal map. Using a dc-dc converter with two-level control as an example, we report the first experimental verification of the direct transition to quasiperiodicity through a border-collision bifurcation
