    Bulk Mass Effects in Gauge-Higgs Unification at Finite Temperature

    We study the bulk mass effects on the electroweak phase transition at finite temperature in a five dimensional SU(3) gauge-Higgs unification model on an orbifold. We investigate whether the Higgs mass satisfying the experimental lower bound can be compatible with the strong first order phase transition necessary for a successful electroweak baryogenesis. Our numerical results show that the above statement can be realized by matter with bulk mass yielding a viable Higgs mass. We also find an interesting case where the heavier Higgs gives the stronger first order phase transition.Comment: 17 pages, 1 figur

    We study the phase transition in gauge-Higgs unification at finite temperature. In particular, we obtain the strong first order electroweak phase transition for a simple matter content yielding the correct order of Higgs mass at zero temperature. Two stage phase transition is found for a particular matter content, which is the strong first order at each stage. We further study supersymmetric gauge models with the Scherk-Schwarz supersymmetry breaking.     Yoga Posture Classification using Computer Vision

    There has been over the past few years, a very increased popularity for yoga. A lot of literatures have been published that claim yoga to be beneficial in improving the overall lifestyle and health especially in rehabilitation, mental health and more. Considering the fast-paced lives that individuals live, people usually prefer to exercise or work-out from the comfort of their homes and with that a need for an instructor arises. Hence why, we have developed a self-assisted system which can be used to detect and classify yoga asanas, which is discussed in-depth in this paper. Especially now when the pandemic has taken over the world, it is not feasible to attend physical classes or have an instructor over. Using the technology of Computer Vision, a computer-assisted system such as the one discussed, comes in very handy. The technologies such as ml5.js, PoseNet and Neural Networks are made use for the human pose estimation and classification. The proposed system uses the above-mentioned technologies to take in a real-time video input and analyze the pose of an individual, and classifies the poses into yoga asanas. It also displays the name of the yoga asana that is detected along with the confidence score

    Substance abuse and psychiatric co-morbidities: a case study of patients at Mathari Psychiatric Hospital, Nairobi, Kenya

    Substance abuse co-morbidity with psychiatric disorders is common and has been widely reported, except in Kenya. This study aimed to determine the prevalence, pattern and socio-economic burden of a dual diagnosis of substance abuse disorder and other psychiatric conditions. This was a cross-sectional descriptive study of 691 patients admitted at Mathari hospital. Only 42 patients had a first working diagnosis of substance abuse but nearly thirty-five percent of the patients scored for a Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (Fourth Edition) diagnosis of alcohol dependance/abuse. There was high co-morbidity of alcohol abuse/dependence with opiate, sedative and 'khat' use, as well as with mood and other psychotic disorders. Substance abuse disorders correlated significantly with other psychiatric disorders. Only 12 patients were in a drug rehabilitation unit, all of whom had a dual psychiatric diagnosis of affective disorder.     Winding number and non-BPS bound states of walls in nonlinear sigma models

    Non-supersymmetric multi-wall configurations are generically unstable. It is proposed that the stabilization in compact space can be achieved by introducing a winding number into the model. A BPS-like bound is studied for the energy of configuration with nonvanishing winding number. Winding number is implemented in an N=1{\cal N}=1 supersymmetric nonlinear sigma model with two chiral scalar fields and a bound states of BPS and anti-BPS walls is found to exist in noncompact spaces.     Background: Gynecological problems of adolescents occupy a special space in the spectrum of gynecological disorders of all ages. In this study, an attempt has been made to review the health profile of adolescent girls visiting department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of a tertiary care hospital.Methods: This observational study was conducted at a tertiary care teaching hospital during June 2014 to May 2016. Data was collected after due permission.Results: Adolescent girls having gynecological problems were 2.3%. Mean age of menarche was 12.5 years. Anemia was present in 89(62.7%). About 72(50.7%) adolescent girls were having abnormal body mass index (BMI). Majority of girls 136(95.8%) had menstrual problems. Leucorrhoea, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), ovarian mass, urinary problems, breast problems, injury to genital tract and sexual assault were present in 42(29.6%), 24(16.9%), 20(14.1%), 13(9.2%), 12(8.5%), 4(2.8%) and 1(0.7%) respectively.Conclusions: A very small proportion of adolescent girls came to the hospital for health-related issues. Anemia was present in more than half of adolescent girls and almost half of adolescent girls were having abnormal BMI. Majority of adolescent girls had menstrual problems. Health education regarding normal physiology, various gynecological problems, importance of nutrition and exercise for adolescents is necessary

    A possible minimal gauge-Higgs unification

    A possible minimal model of the gauge-Higgs unification based on the higher dimensional spacetime M^4 X (S^1/Z_2) and the bulk gauge symmetry SU(3)_C X SU(3)_W X U(1)_X is constructed in some details. We argue that the Weinberg angle and the electromagnetic current can be correctly identified if one introduces the extra U(1)_X above and a bulk scalar triplet. The VEV of this scalar as well as the orbifold boundary conditions will break the bulk gauge symmetry down to that of the standard model. A new neutral zero-mode gauge boson Z' exists that gains mass via this VEV. We propose a simple fermion content that is free from all the anomalies when the extra brane-localized chiral fermions are taken into account as well. The issues on recovering a standard model chiral-fermion spectrum with the masses and flavor mixing are also discussed, where we need to introduce the two other brane scalars which also contribute to the Z' mass in the similar way as the scalar triplet. The neutrinos can get small masses via a type I seesaw mechanism. In this model, the mass of the Z' boson and the compactification scale are very constrained as respectively given in the ranges: 2.7 TeV < m_Z' < 13.6 TeV and 40 TeV < 1/R < 200 TeV.Comment: 20 pages, revised versio

    An Extension for Direct Gauge Mediation of Metastable Supersymmetry Breaking

    We study the direct mediation of metastable supersymmetry breaking by a \Phi^2-deformation to the ISS model and extend it by splitting both Tr\Phi and Tr\Phi^2 terms in the superpotential and gauging the flavor symmetry. We find that with such an extension the enough long-lived metastable vacua can be obtained and the proper gaugino masses can be generated. Also, this allows for constructing a kind of models which can avoid the Landau pole problem. Especially, in our metastable vacua there exist a large region for the parameter m_3 which can satisfy the phenomenology requirements and allow for a low SUSY breaking scale (\sim 100 TeV).Comment: version in Europhys.     Non-Abelian Walls in Supersymmetric Gauge Theories

    The Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) multi-wall solutions are constructed in supersymmetric U(N_C) gauge theories in five dimensions with N_F(>N_C) hypermultiplets in the fundamental representation. Exact solutions are obtained with full generic moduli for infinite gauge coupling and with partial moduli for finite gauge coupling. The generic wall solutions require nontrivial configurations for either gauge fields or off-diagonal components of adjoint scalars depending on the gauge. Effective theories of moduli fields are constructed as world-volume gauge theories. Nambu-Goldstone and quasi-Nambu-Goldstone scalars are distinguished and worked out. Total moduli space of the BPS non-Abelian walls including all topological sectors is found to be the complex Grassmann manifold SU(N_F) / [SU(N_C) x SU(N_F-N_C) x U(1)] endowed with a deformed metric.Comment: 62 pages, 17 figures, the final version in PR
