Growth characteristics of certain estuarine phytoplankters
The growth constants, mean generation time, chlorophyll in relation to .
cell numbers and 4 uptake have been studied in a few unialgal cultures
of selected phytoplankters isolated from Cochin backwaters. Highest growth
constant and lowest mean generation time are obtained during the exponential
growth phase. The changes taking place in the growth kinetics on varying.
concentrations of essential nutrients have also been incorporated
Barriers to expansion of mass literacy and primary schooling in West Bengal : a study based on primary data from selected villages
This paper examines factors affecting literacy and access to school
education in West Bengal, India, and reports the results of a binomial
probit model estimated with primary data from ten villages of West
Bengal. In the analysis of adult literacy, the significant variables were
sex, caste and occupational status and village location. In the probit
results for educational achievements of children of ages 6 to 16 years in
the same villages, however, occupational status was not statistically
significant. In contemporary West Bengal, we argue, class barriers to
school attendance have become less significant; other features of
educational deprivation persist.

How have hired workers fared? : a case study of women workers from an Indian village, 1977 to 1999
This paper examines certain aspects of employment among women
workers in hired labour households, drawing on two surveys of
Gokilapuram, a village in south-west Tamil Nadu, India, conducted in
1977 and 1999. The study finds that, first, work participation rates among
women were high. Secondly, a woman was able to gain employment in
1999, on average, for only about six months a year. Thirdly, there was a
distinct shift between 1977 and 1999 in the composition of total
employment available to women Fourthly, while the real wage rate for
women at cash-paid, daily-rated crop operations rose significantly
between 1977 and 1999, the gender gap in wages widened.

Investigation of complete and incomplete fusion in Li+Sn reaction around Coulomb barrier energies
The complete and incomplete fusion cross sections for Li+Sn
reaction were measured using online and offline characteristic -ray
detection techniques. The complete fusion (CF) cross sections at energies above
the Coulomb barrier were found to be suppressed by 26 \% compared to the
coupled channel calculations. This suppression observed in complete fusion
cross sections is found to be commensurate with the measured total incomplete
fusion (ICF) cross sections. There is a distinct feature observed in the ICF
cross sections, i.e., -capture is found to be dominant than
-capture at all the measured energies. A simultaneous explanation of
complete, incomplete and total fusion (TF) data was also obtained from the
calculations based on Continuum Discretized Coupled Channel method with short
range imaginary potentials. The cross section ratios of CF/TF and ICF/TF
obtained from the data as well as the calculations showed the dominance of ICF
at below barrier energies and CF at above barrier energies.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figure

Detection and localization of audio event for home surveillance using CRNN
Safety and security have been a prime priority in people’s lives, and having a surveillance system at home keeps people and their property more secured. In this paper, an audio surveillance system has been proposed that does both the detection and localization of the audio or sound events. The combined task of detecting and localizing the audio events is known as Sound Event Localization and detection (SELD). The SELD in this work is executed through Convolutional Recurrent Neural Network (CRNN) architecture. CRNN is a stacked layer of convolutional neural network (CNN), recurrent neural network (RNN) and fully connected neural network (FNN). The CRNN takes multichannel audio as input, extracts features and does the detection and localization of the input audio events in parallel. The SELD results obtained by CRNN with the gated recurrent unit (GRU) and with long short-term memory (LSTM) unit are compared and discussed in this paper. The SELD results of CRNN with LSTM unit gives 75% F1 score and 82.8% frame recall for one overlapping sound. Therefore, the proposed audio surveillance system that uses LSTM unit produces better detection and overall performance for one overlapping sound
A RAPID ISOCRATIC HIGH PERFORMANCE LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY (HPLC-UV) METHOD FOR THE QUANTIFICATION OF RITONAVIR IN HUMAN PLASMA
Objective: An accurate, simple, and rapid HPLC-UV based method for the quantitative determination of ritonavir (RTV) in human plasma is developed. Methods: The method involved deproteinization of the sample with 0.125N NaOH and methyl tertiary butyl ether and evaporated to dryness. The residue was reconstituted with mobile phase (20 mM Sodium Acetate and Acetonitrile–55:45 v/v). The analysis was done using C8 column (250 x 4.6 mm ID) and detection at a wavelength of 212 nmResults: The method range was linear over the range 0.5–10.0 µg/ml as derived using calibration curve method. Mean intra-and inter-day variations over the ranges of the standard curves were less than 10 % and mean extraction recoveries from human plasma ranged from 96 to 110 %.Conclusion: A rapid and accurate method for quantitation of RTV in plasma was validated. The assay spans the concentration range of clinical interest. The easy sample preparation and small sample size makes this assay highly suitable for pharmacokinetic studies of RTV in HIV-infected patients with TB.Keywords: Ritonavir, Pharmacokinetics, HPLC, Plasma extraction, HI
Biological productivity of the Indian Ocean
India has a long coast line of nearly 6,000 km with the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Laccadive Archipelago lying beyond her shores. The geographical position of India with the peninsular portion extending deep into the central part of the Indian Ocean gives her a locational advantage in marine fishing activities. At present though India contributes about 4096 of the fish landings of the Indian Ocean, when viewed against the world production of 76 million tannes oJ marine fish, her share is only 1.6 million tonnes represent ing less than 2%
