Palatability of tissues in Holothuria leucospilota (Brandt) from central west coast of India

    Get PDF
The palatability of various organs (body wall, cuvierian gland, viscera, longitudinal muscle bands and gonads) of sea cucumber Holothuria leucospilota (Brandt) was studied by feeding experiments, performed on a freshwater fish Sarotherodon mossambicus and a marine fish Therapon jarbua. The result shows that the food pellets of the body wall were less toxic and more palatable than the gonads, viscera and cuvierian gland (p<0.001)

FORMULATION AND IN VITRO EVALUATION OF ORAL DISINTEGRATING TABLETS OF AMLODIPINE BESYLATE

Objective: The present investigation was undertaken with an objective of formulating oral disintegrating tablets of amlodipine besylate to enhance convenience and compliance of the elderly and pediatric patients for better therapeutic efficacy. Methods: The tablets were prepared by using direct compression method and evaluated for weight variation, hardness, friability, wetting time, disintegration time and in vitro drug release study. Prepared tablets were evaluated for compatibility by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Results: Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy studies revealed that there was no physicochemical interaction between amlodipine besylate and other excipients. All the tablets hardness was found to be around 3.5 kg/cm2 and friability of all the formulations was less than 1%, Drug content in all the formulations was found in the range of 97.05% to 99.13%.Conclusion: The study clearly indicated that the type and concentration of superdisintegrants plays an important role in disintegration and dissolution of drug from oral disintegrating tablets. Among all the formulations, the maximum percentage of drug release and less disintegration time was found in F9 formulation containing 4% of crospovidone.Â

Design and implementation of 9-Level Trinity DC Source inverter using Embedded Controller

    Get PDF
Trinary DC source cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter and the switching pattern scheme is used to improve the performance of Multilevel Inverter (MLI) which reduces the switching losses. The proposed MLI can synthesize high quality output voltage near to sinusoidal waves. This scheme significantly reduces the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and switching losses. The circuit configuration is simple and easy to control.  For the developed technique simulations are carried out through MATLAB/SIMULIN

When a DNA Triple helix melts: An analog of the Efimov state

    Get PDF
The base sequences of DNA contain the genetic code and to decode it a double helical DNA has to open its base pairs. Recent studies have shown that one can use a third strand to identify the base sequences without opening the double helix but by forming a triple helix. It is predicted here that such a three chain system exhibits the unusual behaviour of the existence of a three chain bound state in the absence of any two being bound. This phenomenon is analogous to the Efimov state in three particle quantum mechanics. A scaling theory is used to justify the Efimov connection. Real space renormalization group (RG), and exact numerical calculations are used to validate the prediction of a biological Efimov effect.Comment: Replaced by the (almost) published version, except the word "curiouser

A hybrid combination of substitution and transposition ciphers for efficient encryption using graph labeling

    Get PDF
In this study, we conceptualise a hybrid approach of plaintext encryption by making use of Substitution and Transposition cipher technique namely Playfair Cipher and Simple Columnar Transposition. Both the Ciphers are Symmetric Encryption Technique and the need for developing such a hybrid is to inherit the positive traits as well as restrict certain limitations of both the techniques to a considerable extent. The resulting hybrid text is further subjected to Graph Labeling Technique as the receiver receives the ciphertext in the form of a Graph structure together with a clue to determine the type of labeling used and the ciphertext sequence. Here we adopt two varied labeling techniques namely Simply Sequentially Additive labeling and Distance two labeling for some Tree related Graphs and the corresponding Decryption of the Cipher Graph yields the desired plaintext.Publisher's Versio

A study on efficacy of ambroxol in the treatment of acute bronchitis in tertiary care hospital

    Get PDF
Background: Upper respiratory tract infections (URTI), including acute bronchitis, are the frequent health problems and the most common reason for acute cough in adults. Even though the infections are caused mainly by viruses, and their course is usually not complicated, febrifuges, i.a. mucokinetics, or antitussives are used in the treatment of URTI in order to improve the quality of life and safety of patients. Methods: The present study was prospective and observational study. Data from adult patients treated with ambroxol hydrochloride for acute bronchitis were collected and compared with data from patients treated for the same condition without ambroxol preparations. The severity of bronchitis symptoms was evaluated with the respiratory rate, retraction score, wheezing score and oxygen saturation (SPO2) between visits patients conducted self-observations and filled out observation diaries. Baseline clinical symptomatolgy of breathlessness, cough, and sputum severity scoring were compared before and after 3 and 7 days of treatment in both groups. Results: Majority of the patient’s infections were cured. Most of patients considered the studied drugs to be the agent decreasing the duration of infection and its intensity. The percentage of patients who declared that they had a less intense cough than during earlier infections was higher in the group of patients treated with ambroxol treated patients. Patients treated with Ambroxol hydrochloride to be very safe. Conclusions: Ambroxol is an efficient, well-tolerated, and safe drug. Its efficacy in the treatment of acute bronchitis symptoms in adult patients is similar to the efficacy of other preparations

DYNAMICS OF AN UMBILICAL CABLE FOR UNDERGROUND BORE-WELL APPLICATIONS

    Get PDF
A general model for an umbilical cable for underground bore-well applications is considered. The response of one-degree-of-freedom, nonlinear system under external excitation forces and the effect of the parameters 2, β and f on the excited system are investigated. Variation of the parameter 2 leads to multi-valued amplitudes and hence to jump phenomena. The simulation results are achieved using MATLAB 7.12.0 (R2011a) Simulink

Dynamic phase transition in the conversion of B-DNA to Z-DNA

The long time dynamics of the conformational transition from B-DNA to Z-DNA is shown to undergo a dynamic phase transition. We obtained the dynamic phase diagram for the stability of the front separating B and Z. The instability in this front results in two split fronts moving with different velocities. Hence, depending on the system parameters a denatured state may develop dynamically eventhough it is thermodynamically forbidden. This resolves the current controversies on the transition mechanism of the B-DNA to Z-DNA.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures.
