Charged Current Neutrino Cross Section and Tau Energy Loss at Ultra-High Energies
We evaluate both the tau lepton energy loss produced by photonuclear
interactions and the neutrino charged current cross section at ultra-high
energies, relevant to neutrino bounds with Earth-skimming tau neutrinos, using
different theoretical and phenomenological models for nucleon and nucleus
structure functions. The theoretical uncertainty is estimated by taking
different extrapolations of the structure function F2 to very low values of x,
in the low and moderate Q2 range for the tau lepton interaction and at high Q2
for the neutrino-nucleus inelastic cross section. It is at these extremely low
values of x where nuclear shadowing and parton saturation effects are unknown
and could be stronger than usually considered. For tau and neutrino energies
E=10^9 GeV we find uncertainties of a factor 4 for the tau energy loss and of a
factor 2 for the charged current neutrino-nucleus cross section.Comment: 20 pages and 11 figure
Measurements of integral muon intensity at large zenith angles
High-statistics data on near-horizontal muons collected with Russian-Italian
coordinate detector DECOR are analyzed. Precise measurements of muon angular
distributions in zenith angle interval from 60 to 90 degrees have been
performed. In total, more than 20 million muons are selected. Dependences of
the absolute integral muon intensity on zenith angle for several threshold
energies ranging from 1.7 GeV to 7.2 GeV are derived. Results for this region
of zenith angles and threshold energies have been obtained for the first time.
The dependence of integral intensity on zenith angle and threshold energy is
well fitted by a simple analytical formula.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, 1 tabl
LARGE AREA HODOSCOPES FOR MUON DIAGNOSTICS OF HELIOSPHERE AND EARTH'S MAGNETOSPHERE
Muon diagnostics is a technique for remote monitoring of active processes in the heliosphere and the magnetosphere of the Earth based on the analysis of angular variations of muon flux simultaneously detected from all directions of the upper hemisphere. To carry out muon diagnostics, special detectors ā muon hodoscopes ā which can detect muons from any direction with good angular resolution in real-time mode are required. We discuss approaches to data analysis and the results of studies of various extra-terrestrial processes detected by means of the wide aperture URAGAN muon hodoscope

Measurements of the energy deposit of inclined muon bundles in the CWD NEVOD
First results of investigations of the energy deposits of inclined muon bundles in the ground-based Cherenkov water detector NEVOD are presented. As a measure of the muon bundle energy deposit, the total number of photoelectrons detected by PMTs of the Cherenkov calorimeter is used. For each event, the local muon density at the observation point and the muon bundle arrival direction are estimated from the data of the coordinate-tracking detector DECOR. Registration of the bundles in a wide range of zenith angles allows to explore the interval of primary particle energies from Ģ 1016 to Ģ 1018 eV. Measurement results are compared with CORSIKA based simulations of EAS muon component. It is found that the mean energy of muons detected in the bundles rapidly increases with the zenith angle and reaches about 500 GeV near the horizon
Performance of the first prototype of the CALICE scintillator strip electromagnetic calorimeter
A first prototype of a scintillator strip-based electromagnetic calorimeter
was built, consisting of 26 layers of tungsten absorber plates interleaved with
planes of 45x10x3 mm3 plastic scintillator strips. Data were collected using a
positron test beam at DESY with momenta between 1 and 6 GeV/c. The prototype's
performance is presented in terms of the linearity and resolution of the energy
measurement. These results represent an important milestone in the development
of highly granular calorimeters using scintillator strip technology. This
technology is being developed for a future linear collider experiment, aiming
at the precise measurement of jet energies using particle flow techniques
Ocjena radne sposobnosti pacijenta s Wilsonovom bolesti - prikaz bolesnika
Wilsonās disease (WD) is a rare, progressive autosomal recessive disorder characterised by impaired transport and excessive accumulation of copper in the liver, brain, and other tissues. The disease is diagnosed based on clinical manifestations and screening tests results. Work ability assessment of patients with WD is based on the analysis of liver, kidney, neurological, and cognitive impairments, and takes into account patientās level of education. This article presents a case with a 48-year-old male patient, who was admitted for work ability assessment due to polymorphic symptoms. The patient had been working as a salesman for 28 years. A detailed interview and examination by occupational health and other medical specialists revealed that the patient had been suffering from Wilsonās disease from the age of 13, and had now developed hepatic manifestations (compensated liver cirrhosis with portal hypertension), neurological manifestations (dystonia, dysarthria, muscle weakness, vertigo), and psychiatric manifestations (depression, insomnia, cognitive impairment) of the disease, including problems partially caused by long-lasting treatment with copper chelating agents (neurological and haematological manifestations). There were no ocular manifestations of Wilsonās disease (Kayser-Fleischer rings or sunflower cataract). The patient was assessed as having drastically diminished general work ability, dominantly due to neurological and psychiatric impairments caused by Wilsonās disease.Wilsonova je bolest rijetka, progresivna autosomno recesivna bolest karakterizirana poremeÄajem transporta bakra i posljediÄnim prekomjernim nakupljanjem bakra u jetri, mozgu i drugim tkivima i organima.
ispitivanje radi ocjene radne sposobnosti.
