Abelian Gauge Theory in de Sitter Space
Quantization of spinor and vector free fields in 4-dimensional de Sitter
space-time, in the ambient space notation, has been studied in the previous
works. Various two-points functions for the above fields are presented in this
paper. The interaction between the spinor field and the vector field is then
studied by the abelian gauge theory. The U(1) gauge invariant spinor field
equation is obtained in a coordinate independent way notation and their
corresponding conserved currents are computed. The solution of the field
equation is obtained by use of the perturbation method in terms of the Green's
function. The null curvature limit is discussed in the final stage.Comment: 10 pages, typos corrected, reference adde
Numerical Study of the Lowest Energy Configurations for Global String-Antistring Pairs
We investigate the lowest energy configurations for string - antistring pairs
at fixed separations by numerically minimizing the energy. We show that for
separations smaller than a critical value, a region of false vacuum develops in
the middle due to large gradient energy density. Consequently, well defined
string - antistring pairs do not exist for such separations. We present an
example of vortex - antivortex production by vacuum bubbles where this effect
seems to play a dynamical role in the annihilation of the pair. We also study
the dependence of the energy of an string-antistring pair on their separation
and find deviations from a simple logarithmic dependence for small separations.Comment: 14 pages, in LATEX, 7 figures (not included
The Standard Model instability and the scale of new physics
We apply a general formalism for the improved effective potential with
several mass scales to compute the scale M of new physics which is needed to
stabilize the Standard Model potential in the presence of a light Higgs. We
find, by imposing perturbativity of the new physics, that M can be as large as
one order of magnitude higher than the instability scale of the Standard Model.
This implies that, with the present lower bounds on the Higgs mass, the new
physics could easily (but not necessarily) escape detection in the present and
future accelerators.Comment: latex2e, 12 pages, 3 figure
Vacuum Ambiguity in de Sitter Space at Strong Coupling
It is well known that in the weak coupling regime, quantum field theories in
de Sitter space do not have a unique vacuum, but a class of vacua parametrized
by a complex parameter , i.e., the so-called -vacua. In this
article, using gauge/gravity duality, we calculate the symmetric two-point
function of strongly coupled supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory on
. We find that there is a class of de Sitter invariant vacua,
parametrized by a set of complex parameters .Comment: 17 pages in JHEP style, references adde
Off-Forward Parton Distributions in 1+1 Dimensional QCD
We use two-dimensional QCD as a toy laboratory to study off-forward parton
distributions (OFPDs) in a covariant field theory. Exact expressions (to
leading order in ) are presented for OFPDs in this model and are
evaluated for some specific numerical examples. Special emphasis is put on
comparing the and regimes as well as on analyzing the
implications for the light-cone description of form factors.Comment: Revtex, 6 pages, 4 figure
Topological Excitations in Compact Maxwell-Chern-Simons Theory
We construct a lattice model of compact (2+1)-dimensional Maxwell-Chern-
Simons theory, starting from its formulation in terms of gauge invariant
quantities proposed by Deser and Jackiw. We thereby identify the topological
excitations and their interactions. These consist of monopolo- antimonopole
pairs bounded by strings carrying both magnetic flux and electric charge. The
electric charge renders the Dirac strings observable and endows them with a
finite energy per unit length, which results in a linearly confining string
tension. Additionally, the strings interact via an imaginary, topological term
measuring the (self-) linking number of closed strings.Comment: harvmac, CERN-TH. 6906/93, DFUPG 80/9
Monopole Percolation in the Compact Abelian Higgs Model
We have studied the monopole-percolation phenomenon in the four dimensional
Abelian theory that contains compact U(1) gauge fields coupled to unitary norm
Higgs fields. We have determined the location of the percolation transition
line in the plane . This line overlaps the confined-Coulomb
and the confined-Higgs phase transition lines, originated by a
monopole-condensation mechanism, but continues away from the end-point where
this phase transition line stops. In addition, we have determined the critical
exponents of the monopole percolation transition away from the phase transition
lines. We have performed the finite size scaling in terms of the monopole
density instead of the coupling, because the density seems to be the natural
parameter when dealing with percolation phenomena.Comment: 13 pages. REVTeX. 16 figs. included using eps
About the realization of chiral symmetry in QCD2
Two dimensional massless Quantum Chromodynamics presents many features which
resemble those of the true theory. In particular the spectrum consists of
mesons and baryons arranged in flavor multiplets without parity doubling. We
analyze the implications of chiral symmetry, which is not spontaneously broken
in two dimensions, in the spectrum and in the quark condensate. We study how
parity doubling, an awaited consequence of Coleman's theorem, is avoided due to
the dimensionality of space-time and confinement. We prove that a chiral phase
transition is not possible in the theory.Comment: 9 pages, latex, ftuv/92-
QCD Corrections to SUSY Higgs Production: The Role of Squark Loops
We calculate the two-loop QCD corrections to the production of the neutral
supersymmetric Higgs bosons via the gluon fusion mechanism at hadron colliders,
including the contributions of squark loops. To a good approximation, these
additional contributions lead to the same QCD corrections as in the case where
only top and bottom quark loops are taken into account. The QCD corrections are
large and increase the Higgs production cross sections significantly.Comment: 5 pages, latex, 2 figure
