    ACCIO: How to Make Location Privacy Experimentation Open and Easy

    The advent of mobile applications collecting and exploiting the location of users opens a number of privacy threats. To mitigate these privacy issues, several protection mechanisms have been proposed this last decade to protect users' location privacy. However, these protection mechanisms are usually implemented and evaluated in monolithic way, with heterogeneous tools and languages. Moreover, they are evaluated using different methodologies, metrics and datasets. This lack of standard makes the task of evaluating and comparing protection mechanisms particularly hard. In this paper, we present ACCIO, a unified framework to ease the design and evaluation of protection mechanisms. Thanks to its Domain Specific Language, ACCIO allows researchers and practitioners to define and deploy experiments in an intuitive way, as well as to easily collect and analyse the results. ACCIO already comes with several state-of-the-art protection mechanisms and a toolbox to manipulate mobility data. Finally, ACCIO is open and easily extensible with new evaluation metrics and protection mechanisms. This openness, combined with a description of experiments through a user-friendly DSL, makes ACCIO an appealing tool to reproduce and disseminate research results easier. In this paper, we present ACCIO's motivation and architecture, and demonstrate its capabilities through several use cases involving multiples metrics, state-of-the-art protection mechanisms, and two real-life mobility datasets collected in Beijing and in the San Francisco area

    Elicitins, produced by most of the phytopathogenic fungi of the genus Phytophthora, provoke in tobacco both remote leaf necrosis and the induction of a resistance against subsequent attack by various microorganisms. Despite the recent description of the three-dimensional crystal structure of cryptogein (CRY), the molecular basis of the interactions between Phytophthora and plants largely remains unknown. The X-ray crystal structure, refined at 2.1 A, of a ligand complexed, mutated CRY, K13H, is reported. Analysis of this structure reveals that CRY is able to encapsulate a ligand that induces only a minor conformational change in the protein structure. The ligand has been identified as an ergosterol by gas chromatographic analysis coupled with mass spectrometry analysis. This result is consistent with biochemical data that have shown that elicitins are a distinct class of Sterol Carrier Proteins (SCP). Data presented here provide the first structural description of the pertinent features of the elicitin sterol interaction and permit a reassessment of the importance of both the key residue 13 and the mobility of the omega loop for the accessibility of the sterol to the cavity.     Computation and data grids have encountered a large success among the scientific computing community in the past few years. The medical imaging community is increasingly aware of the potential benefit of these technologies in facing today medical image analysis challenges. In this paper, we report on a first experiment in deploying a medical application on a large scale grid testbed. Our pilot application is a hybrid metadata and image content-based query system that manipulates a large data set and for which image analysis computation can be easily parallelized on several grid nodes. We analyze the performances of this algorithm and the benefit brought by the grid. We further discuss possible improvements and future trends in porting medical applications to grid infrastructures

    Modern mobile devices integrating sensors, like accelerometers and cameras, are paving the way to the definition of high-quality and accurate geolocation solutions based on the informations acquired by these sensors, and data collected and managed by GSM/3G networks. In this paper, we present a technique that provides geolocation and mobility prediction of mobile devices, mixing the location information acquired with the GSM/3G infrastructure and the results of a landmark matching achieved thanks to the camera integrated on the mobile devices. Our geolocation approach is based on an advanced Time-Forwarding algorithm and on database correlation technique over Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) data, and integrates information produced by a landmark recognition infrastructure, to enhance algorithm performances in those areas with poor signal and low accurate geolocation. Performances of the algorithm are evaluated on real data from a complex urban environment

    ETV6 is the target of chromosome 12p deletions in t(12;21) childhood acute lymphocytic leukemia

    The presence of ETV6 deletions was investigated in 215 children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) using the loss of heterozygosity (LOH) approach. We used four intragenic or juxtagenic microsatellite markers to detect allelic deletions. In this series of unselected patients, LOH of ETV6 markers was found in 23% of cases (6% of T-ALL and 26% of B lineage ALL) confirming that chromosome 12p12-13 deletions represent a major genetic alteration in childhood ALL, frequently missed by cytogenetic analysis. The presence of a t(12;21)(p13;q22) was studied by RT-PCR and/or FISH in a total of 134 patients (125 B lineage ALL, nine T-ALL) including 42 cases with LOH. Thirty-four out of 44 patients (77%) for whom a t(12;21) was observed displayed LOH of the ETV6 markers. When associated with a t(12;21), ETV6 is very likely to be the target of deletions as indicated by the detection of intragenic deletions in three patients. Although deletion of ETV6 and t(12;21) were associated in most patients, in eight cases (six B lineage and two T-ALL) LOH was detected at the ETV6 locus without ETV6-AML1 hybrid RNA. FISH studies conducted in five of these eight patients confirmed the absence of translocation involving ETV6. In such patients, the other allele of ETV6 could be disrupted by either a small deletion, a point mutation, or an epigenetic modification and it will be of interest to study the structure and expression of the remaining allele of ETV6 in these cases.     INTRODUCTION Documents are the core of medical reflection: in a Paperbased Medical Record (PMR), we found a lot (typically 150-200) of documents which give to the health-care professional board all the information necessary to follow up and treat the patient. These documents are of different natures (paper, image, etc) and come from different sources (laboratories, clinical departments, etc). Moreover, laboratory results come with textual reports which give important information about the exam. Assuming that we want to change the support of the PMR for an Electronic Medical record (EMR), few effective technologies may propose an appropriate solution. In a traditional approach which tends to formalize knowledge, a view of the EMR is that of a database which holds items of coded, or standardized, information.
