Balloon assisted technique for closure of large atrial septal defects

    Get PDF
Amplatzer device closure of large atrial septal defects is challenging. A large device tends to malalign with the plane of the interatrial septum or prolapses through the defect. We describe a balloon assisted technique which has been successfully used in over 300 cases without a single technical failure.peer-reviewe

    A simulation-based aid for organisational decision-making

    Get PDF
Effective decision-making of modern organisation often requires deep understanding of various aspects of organisation such as organisational goals, organisational structure, business-as-usual operational processes. The large size of the organisation, its socio-technical characteristics, and fast business dynamics make this endeavor challenging. Industry practice relies on human experts for comprehending various aspects of organisation thus making organisational decision-making a time-, effort- and intellectually-intensive endeavor. We are working on a specific instance of this problem in bespoke software development space. This paper proposes a model-based simulation approach to organisational decision-making. We illustrate how this is applied to a real life problem from software service industr

    Membrane Surface Modification

    Get PDF
Processes for preparation of macroporous membranes having unusually high equilibrium protein binding capacities are described. Membranes include a self-supporting porous membrane substrate and a grafted polymeric film on the pore surfaces of the substrate. A polymeric film may be grafted to the porous membrane substrate using surface-initiated polymerization. The grafted polymer chains within the polymeric film can act as molecular `brushes` or `tentacles` in solution and can contain one or more capture chemistries for biomolecules. Membranes can be used in the separation and purification of biomolecules such as proteins, nucleic acids, virus or virus-like particles, endotoxins, and the like

Stock Market Portfolio Management: A Walk-through

    Get PDF
Stock market portfolio management has remained successful in drawing attention of number of researchers from the fields of computer science, finance and mathematics all around the world since years. Successfully managing stock market portfolio is the prime concern for investors and fund managers in the financial markets. This paper is aimed to provide a walk-through to the stock market portfolio management. This paper deals with questions like what is stock market portfolio, how to manage it, what are the objectives behind managing it, what are the challenges in managing it. As each coin has two sides, each portfolio has two elements – risk and return. Regarding this, Markowitz’s Modern Portfolio Theory, or Risk-Return Model, to manage portfolio is analyzed in detail along with its criticisms, efficient frontier, and suggested state-of-the-art enhancements in terms of various constraints and risk measures. This paper also discusses other models to manage stock market portfolio such as Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) and Arbitrage Pricing Theory (APT) Model. DOI: 10.17762/ijritcc2321-8169.150613

Chemistry by Mobile Phone (or how to justify more time at the bar)

By combining automatic environment monitoring with Java smartphones a system has been produced for the real-time monitoring of experiments whilst away from the lab. Changes in the laboratory environment are encapsulated as simple XML messages, which are published using an MQTT compliant broker. Clients subscribe to the MQTT stream, and produce a user display. An MQTT client written for the Java MIDP platform, can be run on a smartphone with a GPRS Internet connection, freeing us from the constraints of the lab. We present an overview of the technologies used, and how these are helping chemists make the best use of their time
