Escape -- The Struggle Between the Real and the Unreal
In this paper, Fr. McInnes relates the drug mentality and The GodShaped Vacuum to the counterfeit experience of drugs and to the necessity of religious people and the Church being prepared to reveal to young people the deeper God experiences
Ill-posedness of degenerate dispersive equations
In this article we provide numerical and analytical evidence that some
degenerate dispersive partial differential equations are ill-posed.
Specifically we study the K(2,2) equation and
the "degenerate Airy" equation . For K(2,2) our results are
computational in nature: we conduct a series of numerical simulations which
demonstrate that data which is very small in can be of unit size at a
fixed time which is independent of the data's size. For the degenerate Airy
equation, our results are fully rigorous: we prove the existence of a compactly
supported self-similar solution which, when combined with certain scaling
invariances, implies ill-posedness (also in )
An introduction to R programming
R language is the GNU arm of S language, which has taken the computational world by
storm in the last decade. Starting as a compendium of statistical tools, this language has
grown up into a canopy lording over a research analysis environment thereby subsuming
many hitherto complicated manoeuvres onto the realms of syntactical simplicity. As this an
exponentially expanding field of development with ever exploding information downpour,
it would be a near impossible task to frame it onto a short simple foundational discourse.
However in the subsequent sections we would try to view the potential and the extent of
practicality we would unravel the hidden features of the software through a GUI envelop
also apart from the regular console and syntax based one. To get its power more
understandable we would visualize its forays into the field of analytics using medium scale
examples from marine fisheries data

Study on the role of microfinance on indebtedness in marine fisheries sector in Odisha
The microfinance organizations and self help groups
mobilised in marine fisheries sector play vital role in reducing
the indebtedness among marine fisherfolk. The study makes
an attempt on the assessment of the extent of indebtedness
among marine fisherfolk in mechanized, motorized and
traditional fisheries sectors and the impact assessment of
Microfinance Institutions (MFI) on coastal indebtedness. The
study was carried out in four coastal districts of Odisha state.
Situational analysis was done through PLA in the selected
locations and the sample respondents were selected from
mechanized, motorized and traditional sectors. Data were
collected through personal interview from members of 12
selected MFIs and non members in these sectors comprising
a total of 600 respondents. The results showed that the level
of indebtedness of members of MFIs was less compared to
the non members. Even if the indebtedness was more in
certain cases, the repayment capacity was found to be
significantly improved in MFIs. There is an extreme necessity
for strengthening the MFI ventures in the traditional and
tertiary fisheries sectors in the state. A comparative assessment
of the sources of credit, purposes of credit and utilization
pattern of loans in the state also was undertaken to draw
valid conclusions. It was also found that the MFIs ranked
better in most of the major attributes in the perception of
stakeholders compared to banks and non-institutional credit
sources. Success cases of MFIs on entrepreneurial capacity
building, those significantly played the role in the debt
redemption and poverty alleviation were documented as a
practical manual for mobilizing MFIs in any key areas on a
sustainable basis

Tritium percolation through porous ceramic breeders: A random-lattice approach
Among the major processes leading to tritium transport through Li ceramic breeders the percolation of gaseous tritium species through the connected porosity remains the least amenable to a satisfactory treatment. The combination of diffusion and reaction through the convoluted transport pathways prescribed by the system of pores poses a formidable challenge. The key issue is to make the fundamental connection between the tortuousity of the medium with the transport processes in terms of only basic parameters that are amenable to fundamental understanding and experimental determinations. This fundamental challenge is met within the following approaches. On the microscale the short range transport is modeled via a convection-diffusion-reaction approach. On a macro scale the long range transport is described within a matrix formalism. The convoluted microstructure of the pore system as prescribed from experimental measurements is synthesized into the present approach via Monte Carlo simulation techniques. In this way the approach requires as inputs only physical-chemical parameters that are amenable to clear basic understanding and experimental determination. In this sense it provides predictive capability. Using this approach the concept of residence time has been analyzed in a critical manner. Implication for tritium release experiments was discussed. 14 refs., 5 figs., 1 tab
Mainstreaming gender through Aquatourism venture: an assessment of impact of women SHGs in Kerala
Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) made a study on gender mainstreaming and impact of Self Help Groups by
mobilised women in Aquatourism venture in Narakkal and Malipuram in Vypeen Island in Ernakulam district of Kerala state.
‘Matsyafed’ of Kerala State Fisheries Department and Tsunami Emergency Assistance Program (TEAP) have organized these women
SHGs for uplifting the life of Fisherfolk by enhancing Fish production Marketing, Technical support and Ecotourism. SHGs names as
Souparnika in Narakkal and Vandanam in Malippuram are running the cafeteria which provides delicious homely meals and cooked
fish items. The impact of SHGs on gender mainstreaming by assessing the equity and equality of men and women in these SHGs was
assessed through gender analysis, performance level of SHG, Empowerment Index and economic feasibility analysis with socio
economic surveys undertaken in the locality with a pre-tested and structured data gathering protocols consisting of standardized
scales and indices. Empowerment Index was quantified based on 8 relevant dimensions constituting it. The male and female
counterparts of the families were separately interviewed to assess the gender mainstreaming aspects in terms of equity and equality
to access to resources, participation profile, decision making aspects, gender need analysis etc. Proper ‘training on technical matters’
and ‘marketing aspects’ were found to be inevitable for more desirable results. Female counterparts also do have a definite role in
site selection, purchase of accessories, cooking, serving, cleaning, marketing etc. The Scales of ‘Performance Assessment’ and
‘Empowerment Index’ developed for this study have good potential for future use in other key areas on a sustainable basis. Lacunae
identified in Empowerment Index computation give adequate feedback to authorities to proceed in the right direction. The gender
dimension analysis on mainstreaming aspect gives sensitization on crucial issues like women fisher folk’s rights and marketing
channels for policies and other interventions on gender. Inter relationships between the variables an act as catalytic points for group
action and group empowerment on a sustainable basis. The success case study elucidated can be used as a case model and practical
manual for promoting group action for mobilising SHGs on a sustainable basis
Measuring the quantum efficiency of single radiating dipoles using a scanning mirror
Using scanning probe techniques, we show the controlled manipulation of the
radiation from single dipoles. In one experiment we study the modification of
the fluorescence lifetime of a single molecular dipole in front of a movable
silver mirror. A second experiment demonstrates the changing plasmon spectrum
of a gold nanoparticle in front of a dielectric mirror. Comparison of our data
with theoretical models allows determination of the quantum efficiency of each
radiating dipole.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
