Amaranthus interruptus R. Br. on Jarvis Island in the Central Pacific
Amaranthus interruptus R. Br.,' a principally Australian species,
has been recorded on Jarvis Island in the Central Pacific. The plant is supposed
to have been introduced to the island some time between 1924 and 1935. It
evidently became well established and was still there in 1964

PERUBAHAN RETENSI AIR PADA ZONE PERAKARAN TANAMAN JAGUNG AKIBAT APLIKASI BAHAN ORGANIK ECENG GONDOK (EICHORNIA CRASSIPES)
Management system implemented aimed to preventing land degradation and improve water availability in the rooting zone of Zea mays plantation. Increased availability of high water as inplikasi ability of organic matter in binding water. The research method using field experiments with Completely Random Design with five levels, ie, P0 = without Eichornia crassipess organic matter or control, P1 = 3 ton.ha-1 E. crassipess organic matter, P2 = 6 ton.ha-1 E. crassipess organic matter, P3 = 9 ton.ha-1 E. crassipess organic matter, and P4 = 12 ton.ha-1 E. crassipess organic matter. The results obtained showed that the treatment of E. crassipess organic matter 12 ton ha-1 can increase water retention at pF pF 1.00 and 2.00 times respectively at 1.19 and 1.17 times larger compared with the untreated organic matter (P0).
Key words: E. crassipess, water retention, Zea may
Sum Rules and Universality in Electron-modulated Acoustic Phonon Interaction in a Free-standing Semiconductor Plate
Analysis of acoustic phonons modulated due to the surfaces of a free-standing semiconductor plate and their deformation-potential interaction with electrons are presented. The form factor for electron-modulated acoustic phonon interaction is formulated and analyzed in detail. The form factor at zero in-plane phonon wave vector satisfies sum rules regardless of electron wave function. The form factor is larger than that calculated using bulk phonons, leading to a higher scattering rate and lower electron mobility. When properly normalized, the form factors lie on a universal curve regardless of plate thickness and material

The X-ray Spectrum and Light Curve of Supernova 1995N
We report on multi-epoch X-ray observations of the Type IIn (narrow emission
line) supernova SN 1995N with the ROSAT and ASCA satellites. The January 1998
ASCA X-ray spectrum is well fitted by a thermal bremsstrahlung (kT~10 keV,
N_H~6e20 cm^-2) or power-law (alpha~1.7, N_H~1e21 cm^-2) model. The X-ray light
curve shows evidence for significant flux evolution between August 1996 and
January 1998: the count rate from the source decreased by 30% between our
August 1996 and August 1997 ROSAT observations, and the X-ray luminosity most
likely increased by a factor of ~2 between our August 1997 ROSAT and January
1998 ASCA observations, although evolution of the spectral shape over this
interval is not ruled out. The high X-ray luminosity, L_X~1e41 erg/sec, places
SN 1995N in a small group of Type IIn supernovae with strong circumstellar
interaction, and the evolving X-ray luminosity suggests that the circumstellar
medium is distributed inhomogeneously.Comment: MNRAS accepted. 6 pages, 2 figures; uses mn.sty and psfi
