Escaping the Summer Heat – Revival Potential and Challenge of Near-Metropolitan Tourism Areas

    Get PDF
To be economically successful in the future, alpine tourism in Austria must develop appropriate strategies to adapt to changing climate conditions. The revitalisation of the historic “Sommerfrische” represents one potential strategy for low-lying mountain destination close to urban agglomeration to benefit by the increase in urban heat days. Whether this potential exists on the demand side and how it can be tapped by the respective destinations on the supply side will be investigated throughout this project. For this purpose, a large scale survey will be conducted in Vienna. This paper focuses on the development process, which is informed by a range of quantitative and qualitative methods at the pre-survey stage. First results indicate that the potential exists, yet mainly for shorter, spontaneous trips, not necessarily labelled as “Sommerfrische”

Abstract Purpose: With the US reporting 20 million newly diagnosed STI/HIV cases annually, clinical guideline compliance and EBP recommendation implementation necessitate provider practice changes for high-quality routine sexual and reproductive health services. The project\u27s purpose was to improve sexual health history-taking (SHH) and documentation in a private primary care practice (PPCP) serving high-risk populations. The DNP project aims to determine the effect of conducting a 30-minute educational session and implementing the CDC\u27s 5Ps on a PCP\u27s clinical guideline adherence to SHH recommendations and documentation with patients presenting for annual wellness exams, well-woman exams, family/contraceptive counseling, or acute urogenital complaints in an urban, southeastern PPCP. Methodology: The quality improvement (QI) project implemented a standardized clinical practice change using the Stetler model\u27s practitioner-oriented knowledge translation design. PPCP-employed NPs (n = 3) completed anonymous pre-/post-implementation surveys using SurveyMonkey, received educational resources, and implemented the CDC\u27s 5Ps SHH tool for clinically appropriate patient encounters identified by eligible ICD-10 codes. Athena\u27s Report Builder compiled data on SHH completion/EMR documentation and providers\u27 intervention compliance from 2-weeks before and 2-weeks after implementation. Results: Over the four-week project period, a total of n = 1,031 EMR charts [pre-implementation (n = 513)/post-implementation (n = 518)] were reviewed for SHH completion/EMR documentation. Analysis of eligible encounters’ charts showed significant improvement in post-implementation SHH completion/EMR documentation rates (37% in pre-intervention; 82% in post-intervention). The chi-square test findings [X2 (1, N = 1031) = 43.637, p \u3c .01] displayed a significant relation between the variables, indicating an increased likelihood of sexual health history EMR documentation by implementing the CDC\u27S 5Ps SHH tool. Provider survey results indicated providers support implementation and routine clinical practice of the CDC\u27s 5Ps. Limitations: Provider sample size (n =3), geographical location, demographics served, private ownership, and SUD treatment center association limit the study\u27s generalizability. Implications for Practice: The PPCP’s SHH tool availability for clinically relevant encounters increased SHH EMR documentation completion and frequency rates––utilizing the brief, cost-effective intervention for evaluating sexual health risks and behaviors to decrease the likelihood of adverse outcomes. Through positive, nonjudgmental sexual health information acquisition, providers can better facilitate difficult conversations with patients, promote sexual health awareness, and improve STI/HIV screening/treatment rates in a private primary care practice setting. QUEM SÃO OS ELEITORES QUE POSSIVELMENTE ELEGERAM BOLSONARO E LULA?

Luis Inácio Lula da Silva, from the Workers' Party (PT), was barred from running for the presidency in 2018 by the electoral court. Four years later, Lula won the presidential elections. The common element between both elections is the main opponent: Jair Bolsonaro. The 2022 election was highly contested, and it is possible that so-called "volatile" voters played a decisive role. Those who initially would have voted for Lula if he had been a candidate and later chose Bolsonaro in 2018 may have influenced the outcome of the fiercely contested 2022 election. This study focuses on understanding who these "bolsolulistas" are and examining their attributes and thoughts. We seek answers using post-election survey data from 2018, which investigated both the vote and attitudes towards Lula, in case his candidacy was not legally barred. Additionally, we compare these results with survey data from 2022. We find that bolsolulistas share significant similarities with voters who chose Bolsonaro in both 2018 and 2022, especially regarding religion. However, they are less distrustful of political parties, similar to voters of Lula in 2022. Furthermore, they tend to position themselves ideologically in the center and favor the presence of a strong leader who can solve problems, even if it means acting outside the law.

Artspeak. The Bullshit Language of Art

    Get PDF
Pseudo-profound language is a stylistic means in many different contexts, like advertising, politics, economics, or even science. Contemporary visual art is notoriously known for its variant: artspeak. We develop a syntactical analysis and show how artspeak is constructed. We point out that it is “evocative” bullshit in that it aims at contextualizing art with traditional art myths (i.e., artists are, among other adjectives, autonomous, critical, or free). Furthermore, we argue that artspeak should be regarded as a particular type of bullshit as it features a unique relation to truth

An Introduction to the Process Theory of Causation

The process theory of causation represents one major account amongst all relevant causal theories today. Its main idea is to give up on the “traditional view” of causation, spelled out roughly by “event C causes event E” where the causal relation is then analyzed in terms of concepts involving for example necessity, counterfactual dependence, or constant conjunction. Rather, “processes” transmit causal influence even over long distances, sometimes interacting with other processes. The main proponent of this idea was Wesley C. Salmon, and his version of it can be deemed the core of the concept. This text is an introduction to the topic for philosophers and students
