The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different dietary protein levels on the biochemical and production parameters of ostriches. Eighteen adult, eight-year-old ostriches (Struthio camelus) (six male and twelve female) were studied. For the experiment the ostriches were randomly divided into two groups of 3 breeding pairs each (one male and two female) to be fed with 20% and 23% crude protein, respectively. The 20% crude protein group was fed layer feed (20% crude protein, 2900 kcal/kg ME) and alfalfa (ad libitum) and the 23% crude protein group with layer feed (23% crude protein, 2900 kcal/kg ME) and alfalfa (ad libitum) between May and September. It was determined that biochemical parameters of ostriches which were fed with diets that included 20% and 23% crude protein levels did not differ significantly, but a significant difference (P<0.01) was found in egg fertility ratio and hatchability of eggs between dietary protein levels. It was concluded that a high crude protein level in breeding ostriches had a negative effect on the number of eggs and hatchability of total eggs, and the results of the present study showed that the crude protein ratio was not required to exceed 20%.Istražen je učinak hranidbe temeljene na različitoj količini proteina na biokemijske i proizvodne pokazatelje nojeva. Prva skupina je dobivala 20% sirovog proteina, 2900 kcal/kg ME i lucerku (ad libitum), a druga 23% sirovog proteina, 2900 kcal/kg ME i lucerku (ad libitum) u razdoblju od svibnja do rujna.

Arthroplasty as a Choice of Treatment in Hip Surgery

The hip joint bears the most load in the human body. For this reason, it carries the potential risk of degenerative arthritis in individuals with a functionally active lifestyle. The main goal in the treatment of degenerative arthritis is to achieve pain relief and create a hip joint range of motion close to normal. Even today, it is not possible to transform the hip joint, which has been degenerated due to several reasons and worn out due to the physiological properties of the cartilage structure, back to its natural state. Osteotomies, resection arthroplasties and hip arthrodeses, which are designed to compensate the load distribution affecting the hip and relieve the pain, are still employed methods. Total hip arthroplasty, on the other hand, is an alternative solution for the problem. Cemented, cementless and hybrid methods are widely used for this purpose in total hip arthroplasties. The purpose of hip prosthesis surgery is to shape the bone tips and to fill the fragments with various materials and keep these two structures as separate surfaces. Total hip arthroplasty consists of a femoral component placed in the medullas of the femur and an acetabular component placed in the acetabulum. In this article we will review the aims, causes, types and techniques of total hip arthroplasty

    Get PDF
This paper presents an efficient wireless power transfer (WPT) system for implantable deep brain stimulation (DBS) devices. A head-mounted DBS device is taken into account in the design procedure of the presented WPT system. A three coil system is designed to provide high efficiency power transfer. The LCC compensation network which has constant voltage characteristic is used in the transmitter side and two receiver coils using series compensation are located in the receiver side, into the human tissue. Finally, performance of the proposed WPT system is tested by a 3D electromagnetic simulation work at a 10 mm distance. Based on the simulation results, 1.19 V DC output voltage is regulated while the DC output current is 24 mA. The power transfer efficiency is achieved as 4.63% at full load condition

Meckel's diverticulum is the most common congenital anomaly of the small intestine. Common complications related to a Meckel's diverticulum include haemorrhage, intestinal obstruction, and inflammation. Small bowel obstruction due to mesodiverticular band of Meckel's diverticulum is a rare complication. Herein, we report the diagnosis and management of a small bowel obstruction occurring due to mesodiverticular band of a Meckel's diverticulum

ABSTRACT Objective: This study aimed to investigate the frequency of sexual dysfunction and the effect of short-term testosterone replacement therapy on sexual functions in congenital hypogonadism patients. Furthermore, we sought to reveal the consistency of the self-report scales used for the diagnosis of sexual dysfunction and the relationship between biochemical parameters. Materials and methods: The study was conducted on 47 young male patients aged above 18 years who were diagnosed with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. Short (IIEF-5) and long (IIEF-15) forms of the International Index of Erectile Function and Arizona Sexual Experiences Scale (ASEX) were applied before treatment under the supervision of a physician. The patients’ blood pressure, height, and weight were measured, and their luteinizing hormone (LH), FSH, and total testosterone levels were recorded. Patients who started their treatments were called for a follow-up checkup after 6 months. Their blood pressure, height, and weight were measured by reapplying the ASEX, IIEF-5, and IIEF-15. In addition, their LH, FSH, and total testosterone levels in the biochemical tests were rerecorded. Results: In this study, the sexual dysfunction status of patients diagnosed with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism before and after treatment was evaluated using the ASEX, IIEF-15, and IIEF-5 scales. A decrease in sexual dysfunction was observed in all three scales after treatment compared with that before treatment. The IIEF-5 and IIEF-15 scales were found to be uncorrelated in terms of the pretreatment values but were correlated in terms of the post-treatment values. Although a correlation was observed between ASEX and IIEF-5 before treatment, no correlation was detected between ASEX and IIEF-15. After the treatment, ASEX was found to be correlated with both IIEF-5 and IIEF-15. The results of the scales indicated the correlation in all categories, except the pretreatment results of the IIEF-15 scale. Conclusion: The results of the current study demonstrated a significant improvement in the sexual function of hypogonadism patients undergoing short-term testosterone therapy. The ASEX, IIEF-5, and IIEF-15 scales used in the diagnosis and follow-up of sexual dysfunction were useful for evaluating sexual functions in hypogonadotropic hypogonadism patients

Editorial of Special Issue of National Identities: Alevism as an ethno-religious identity: Contested boundaries

No abstract for editorial but this is the opening paragraph: This special issue on Alevism and trans/national Alevi identity critically engages with the relationship between religion, ethnicity and national identity. The core issues are as follows: • how ethnicity and religion are conceptualised for a relatively invisible ethnic group in different national contexts; • how religion and ethnicity intersect when Alevism is both a faith and an ethnic identity, especially when conceptions of that identity are contested; • how identity is shaped through state policies within different national policy contexts and how etic definitions of minority communities are constructed by the state or other agencies with the power to impose them on the community in contrast to the emic or self-definitions of Aleviness from within the Alevi community; • how despite the fragmented, heterogeneous nature of Alevi communities, there is also a sense of a single, transnational imaginary community, at least for the purposes of political assimilation/integration and activism; • how education and other arenas of political, religious and cultural engagement at local, national and transnational levels create the possibilities, both positively and negatively, for future action/policy to situate minority ethnic communities

    Heavy Exercise Induced Macroscopic Hematuria-Proteinuria

    No full text
Hematuria must be regarded as a serious finding until proven otherwise. It can be originated from simple urinary tract infection, but also can be a first sign due to urinary tract tumor. Hematuria can be detected as well as the only isolated finding, it can also accompany other urinary system pathologies.Infection, trauma, and menstruation should be ruled out primarly. In this case, we have tried to emphasize again the importance of detailed medical history as well as the use of laboratory tests in primary care by revising the clinical features of macroscopic hematuria and accompanying proteinuria.
