Two synthetic androgenic steroids, Ethylestrenol (17 β - Hydroxy - 17 α ethyl - estr - 4 - en - 3 - one) and Stanozolal (17 β - Hydroxy- 17 α - methyl - 5 a - androstano - 3, 2 - C - pyrazole) were fed via diet at 3 ppm to the spawn of Rohu and Mrigal which were reared up to fry stage over a period of 15 days in earthen carp nurseries. Both hormones enhanced growth of spawn. A maximum of 25.78% increase in length and 25.69% increase in weight as compared to the controls has been recorded. Growth rate was recorded to be 0.8 mm & 2.48 mg/day (control), and 1.13 mm & 2.67 mg/day (Stanozolol treated) in case of Mrigal spawn; and 0.91 mm & 2.39 mg/day (control), 1.12 mm & 2.90 mg/day (Ethylestrenol treated), and 1.10 mm & 2.57 mg/day (Stanozolol treated) in case of Rohu spawn. A decrease in the values of Relative Condition Factor upon hormone administration was also noticed

Effects of cold rolling (CR) and annealing time on microstructure and mechanical properties of AA 5052 aluminum alloy

    Get PDF
In this paper, the influences of cold rolling and annealing time on the microstructure and mechanical behaviors of AA 5052 aluminum alloy were investigated. An aluminum sheet was cold-rolled at room temperature at 15, 30, and 45 % rolling reduction. The 45 % cold-rolled sample was subsequently annealed at 370 °C for 2, 4, and 6 h. The microstructure was observed using optical microscopy whereas the mechanical behaviors were evaluated through hardness and tensile tests. It was found that the equiaxed grains are severely elongated along the rolling direction with increased rolling reduction. The hardness and strength increase significantly with an increase of rolling reduction but the ductility decreases. The annealing treatment reduces hardness and strength but improves the ductility

The worldwide consumed energy is increasing every year by technological developments and incremental of the population. The growing energy demand is generally covered by exhaustible resources. However, using fossil fuels damage environment. For this reason, Wind Power Systems, type of renewable energy, are preferred for establishing new power plants. Wind Power Plants (WPP) are installed every year with a significant increasing rate. Integration of large scale WPPs into grid presents some issues, such as power quality, bridging power and energy management. State of the art the Energy Storage (ES) is a possible solution for Wind Power Plants. In this paper, possible ES technologies for decreasing disadvantages of WPPs are discussed and their characteristic features are compared. ES systems are indicated in terms of purpose of use in WPPs

This research was conducted from May to June 2017 for 45 days in HatcheryTIU (Technical Implementation Unit) of Marine and Fisheries Faculty, University ofRiau. The aims of this study were to determine the growth and survival rate of Siamesecatfish which were reared on different shape of the tanks. The tanks were made oftarpaulin plastic material with 30 L of water volume capacity. Stocking density ofexperimental fishes were 30 fishes/tank. The method of the study was an experimentalmethod with 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments were: P1 = circle shape, P2 =Square-shape, P3 = Octagonal shape, P4 = Triangular shape, and P5 = Rectangularshaped. The result of this study can be concluded that different shape of tanks have nosignificant effect on growth and survival rate performance of the Siamese catfish fries. The growth performance of round, square, octagonal, triangle and rectangular shape oftanks respectively has given an absolute weight growth of 5.93 g; 6.00 g; 6.18 g; 5.72 gand 5.77 g, then an absolute length growth were 4.88 cm; 4.93 cm; 4.91 cm; 4.76 cm and4.85 cm, a daily growth rate 4.24%, 4.32%, 4.27%, 4.21% and 4.24, the food efficiency92.67%, 92.63% , 94.31%, 92.42% and 91.23% and the survival rate 100%, 97.8%,100%, 98.9% and 100% respectively. The result of water quality measurement which isstill in the optimal range for rearing the Siamese catfish where the temperature was 28-30° C, 5-6 of pH, 5-6 mg/L of DO, 0,03-0,05 mg / L of Ammonia, 0,17-0,20 mg / L ofNitrite, and Nitrate was 0.80-0.98 mg / L

Unusual medial tibial plateau fracture fixation using dual plating

    Get PDF
Background: Medial tibial plateau fractures is a subtype of proximal tibial fractures that involve the articular surface and can present in several distinct patterns. Purpose of this study was to assess the clinical outcome of stabilizing these biplanar medial tibial plateau fractures using dual plating technique through a single incision. Methods: Between 2017 to 2019, 12 men and 8 women with closed medial tibial plateau fracture who underwent reconstruction using two plates through a posteromedial approach were included in the study group. The fractures were classified using the three column concept of Lou.Results: One patient had an articular step off that was unacceptable and two patients had an acceptable articular step off. Functional assessment was done using the objective scoring of Oxford knee score criteria and radiological assessment was done using the Rasmussen modified score. Conclusions: Biplanar reconstruction using dual plates is a reliable and safe technique to reconstruct complex medial tibial plateau fractures

The role of complement in ocular pathology

    Get PDF
Functionally active complement system and complement regulatory proteins are present in the normal human and rodent eye. Complement activation and its regulation by ocular complement regulatory proteins contribute to the pathology of various ocular diseases including keratitis, uveitis and age-related macular degeneration. Furthermore, a strong relationship between age-related macular degeneration and polymorphism in the genes of certain complement components/complement regulatory proteins is now well established. Recombinant forms of the naturally occurring complement regulatory proteins have been exploited in the animal models for treatment of these ocular diseases. It is hoped that in the future recombinant complement regulatory proteins will be used as novel therapeutic agents in the clinic for the treatment of keratitis, uveitis, and age-related macular degeneration
