    A study of the Scrum Master’s role

    Scrum is an increasingly common approach to software development adopted by organizations around the world. However, as organizations transition from traditional plan-driven development to agile development with Scrum, the question arises as to which Scrum role (Product Owner, Scrum Master, or Scrum Team Member) corresponds to a Project Manager, or conversely which Scrum role should the Project Managers adopt? In an attempt to answer this question, we adopted a mixed-method research approach comprising a systematic literature review and embedded case study of a commercial software development team. Our research has identified activities that comprise the Scrum Master role, and which additional roles are actually performed by Scrum Masters in practice. We found nine activities that are performed by Scrum Masters. In addition, we found that Scrum Masters also perform other roles, most importantly as Project Managers. This latter situation results in tension and conflict of interest that could have a negative impact on the performance of the team as a whole. These results point to the need to re-assess the role of Project Managers in organizations that adopt Scrum as a development approach. We hypothesize that it might be better for Project Managers to become Product Owners, as aspects of this latter role are more consistent with the traditional responsibilities of a Project Manager

    Abstract In this study, a technical scheme of an ammonium recovery process from diluted municipal or industrial wastewaters was developed, and the main operational parameters of adsorption/desorption and air-stripping/acid-scrubbing or membrane units were examined. The proposed approach combines the removal of ammonium nitrogen by an ion-exchange mechanism on metakaolin-based geopolymers (MKGPs) followed by adsorbent regeneration. A regeneration agent was purified by the air-stripping technique or membrane technology. A ready-to-use market-grade fertilizer or industrial-grade ammonia water could be obtained as the final product. The properties and regeneration ability of MKGP, prepared from activated kaolinite clay, were compared with new geopolymer adsorbents based on papermill sludge (FS MKGP). Adsorption fixed-bed column experiments with continuously circulated regeneration solution purified by air-stripping or the membrane approach were conducted to determine the limits of the regeneration solution’s application. Sodium and potassium salts were tested as regeneration agents, and the influence of regeneration solution composition on ammonium removal and recovery rates was investigated. Based on a breakthrough curve analysis, the removal rate of ammonium N by FS MKGP was found to be 3.2 times higher than that by MKGP for actual wastewater samples. Moreover, there were substantial differences in the regeneration regime between the two adsorbents. For the air-stripping technique, a liquid-phase temperature of 45°C was minimal and enough for efficient ammonia transfer to the gaseous phase. For the membrane technique, a feed-phase temperature of 40°C was enough for removing ammonia from the regeneration solution, while no heating of a receiving phase was required

    Parent support programmes for families who are immigrants:a scoping review

    Abstract Parental support is of paramount importance in the promotion of positive parenting, strengthening parenthood and protecting children from disadvantages due to immigration experiences. The aim was to describe what is known about parent support programmes targeted to families who are immigrants. Electronic databases and the grey literature were systematically and comprehensively searched with no time/language restrictions. JBI approach and PRISMA-ScR were used to guide the review. N = 88 articles were sourced. Interventions were targeted to improve parental practices, skills and family wellbeing, usually through group-based methods. Most interventions included components of positive parenting and family communication. Identifying the needs of the target group and cultural tailoring were reported to be highly important in gaining acceptability, promoting engagement and producing benefits. Parent support programmes for families who are immigrants potentially improve positive parental practices and families’ wellbeing. There are many applicable and effective interventions to be exploited

    Effectiveness of mentoring education on health care professionals´ mentoring competence:a systematic review

    Abstract Background: Different types of educational approaches are needed to build a mentor's competence in guiding students during clinical practice; this education should be provided in an interprofessional setting. Objektives: The objective of this review was to evaluate how effective mentoring education interventions are at improving mentoring competence among health care professionals. Desing: A systematic review. Data sources: A systematic search was conducted across five electronic databases: CINAHL, PubMed, ProQuest, Scopus, and Medic. The search did not have any time limitations and included original studies published in English, Finnish or Swedish. Review methods: JBI critical appraisal tools for quasi-experimental studies and randomized controlled trials were used to assess the quality of the selected studies. The eligibility of potentially relevant studies was assessed by two independent researchers based on title, abstract, and full text, along with overall methodological quality. The study findings were synthesized using data tabulation and narrative analysis. Results: A total of two randomized controlled trials and six quasi-experimental studies were included in the review. The described mentoring education interventions were carried out in university hospitals, central hospitals, tertiary care centers, and other health service settings. All of the described educational interventions involved the pedagogical method of blended learning, while three studies also involved web-based learning. The presented educational interventions included versatile pedagogical frameworks, e.g., interactive practical training sessions, teaching workshops, and technology-mediated interactions. One study contained a control group. Conclusion: This systematic review can provide insight and evidence-based that can be used to design effective mentoring education. Further research is needed and would ideally include randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental studies with reference groups; this type of research could further elucidate which aspects of mentoring education are most important for improving the guidance skills of health care professionals
