    Systematic {\it ab initio} study of the magnetic and electronic properties of all 3d transition metal linear and zigzag nanowires

    It is found that all the zigzag chains except the nonmagnetic (NM) Ni and antiferromagnetic (AF) Fe chains which form a twisted two-legger ladder, look like a corner-sharing triangle ribbon, and have a lower total energy than the corresponding linear chains. All the 3d transition metals in both linear and zigzag structures have a stable or metastable ferromagnetic (FM) state. The electronic spin-polarization at the Fermi level in the FM Sc, V, Mn, Fe, Co and Ni linear chains is close to 90% or above. In the zigzag structure, the AF state is more stable than the FM state only in the Cr chain. It is found that the shape anisotropy energy may be comparable to the electronic one and always prefers the axial magnetization in both the linear and zigzag structures. In the zigzag chains, there is also a pronounced shape anisotropy in the plane perpendicular to the chain axis. Remarkably, the axial magnetic anisotropy in the FM Ni linear chain is gigantic, being ~12 meV/atom. Interestingly, there is a spin-reorientation transition in the FM Fe and Co linear chains when the chains are compressed or elongated. Large orbital magnetic moment is found in the FM Fe, Co and Ni linear chains

    Understanding different types of consumers: A multi-group analysis based on convenience food-related lifestyle

    The primary objective of this study is to identify categories of organic food consumers based on the CFL (convenience food related lifestyle). Secondarily, this study explores characteristics, motivations/barriers in consumption and perception regarding to self-focus perception (such as perceived consequence of purchasing organic food) and altruistic behaviour (such as recycling behavior and perception of transportation) in different CFL. 1,262 valid samples are collected in this study. Moderate, convenience-pursuing and quality-pursuing categories are separated by cluster analysis. Consumer attitudes toward ready-made meals and takeaway meal solutions, perceived consequences of purchasing organic food, purchase frequency and quantity are differential, and the influence of organic food purchasing perception of consequence on altruistic behaviour are differences in CFL. Only consumers who purchase organic food motivated by environmental concerns are able to improve their recycling behavior. This study believes that the CFL framework has enhanced the understanding of consumer buying behavior and characteristics

    Bosonic t-J Model in a stacked triangular lattice and its phase diagram

    In this paper, we study phase diagram of a system of two-component hard-core bosons with nearest-neighbor (NN) pseudo-spin antiferromagnetic (AF) interactions in a stacked triangular lattice. Hamiltonian of the system contains three parameters one of which is the hopping amplitude tt between NN sites, and the other two are the NN pseudo-spin exchange interaction JJ and the one that measures anisotropy of pseudo-spin interactions. We investigate the system by means of the Monte-Carlo simulations and clarify the low-temperature phase diagram. In particular, we are interested in how the competing orders, i.e., AF order and superfluidity, are realized, and also whether supersolid forms as a result of hole doping into the state of the 3×3\sqrt{3}\times \sqrt{3} pseudo-spin pattern with the 120o120^o structure.Comment: 18 pages, 17 figures, Version to appear in J.Phys.Soc.Jp

    We consider compactification of M-theory on X7 with betti numbers (b_0, b_1, b_2, b_3, b_3, b_2, b_1, b_0) and define a generalized mirror symmetry (b_0, b_1, b_2, b_3) goes to (b_0, b_1, b_2 -rho/2, b_3+rho/2)$ under which rho = 7b_0-5b_1+3b_2 -b_3 changes sign. Generalized self-mirror theories with rho=0 have massless sectors with vanishing trace anomaly (before dualization).     Dual-species Bose-Einstein condensates of 7^{7}Li and 133^{133}Cs

    We report the creation of dual-species Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) of 7^{7}Li and 133^{133}Cs. These BECs are formed in a bichromatic optical dipole trap created with 1550-nm and 780-nm laser beams. During the production process, an external magnetic field of 886~G is applied to adjust the scattering lengths to aCs=123a0a_{\rm{Cs}} = 123a_0, aLi=484a0a_{\rm{Li}} = 484a_0, and aLiCs=248a0a_{\rm{LiCs}} = 248a_0. These scattering lengths allow for efficient evaporation and sympathetic cooling. The dual-species BECs are typically produced with 1.5×1041.5\times 10^4 Cs atoms and 6.0×1036.0\times 10^3 Li atoms. This quantum degenerate mixture of Li and Cs provides an ideal platform for exploring phenomena such as polarons and Efimov trimers, as well as for creating ground-state LiCs molecules.Comment: 9 pages, 9 figure

    Federated mmWave Beam Selection Utilizing LIDAR Data

    Efficient link configuration in millimeter wave (mmWave) communication systems is a crucial yet challenging task due to the overhead imposed by beam selection. For vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) networks, side information from LIDAR sensors mounted on the vehicles has been leveraged to reduce the beam search overhead. In this letter, we propose a federated LIDAR aided beam selection method for V2I mmWave communication systems. In the proposed scheme, connected vehicles collaborate to train a shared neural network (NN) on their locally available LIDAR data during normal operation of the system. We also propose a reduced-complexity convolutional NN (CNN) classifier architecture and LIDAR preprocessing, which significantly outperforms previous works in terms of both the performance and the complexity

    Geometric Aspects of the Moduli Space of Riemann Surfaces

    This is a survey of our recent results on the geometry of moduli spaces and Teichmuller spaces of Riemann surfaces appeared in math.DG/0403068 and math.DG/0409220. We introduce new metrics on the moduli and the Teichmuller spaces of Riemann surfaces with very good properties, study their curvatures and boundary behaviors in great detail. Based on the careful analysis of these new metrics, we have a good understanding of the Kahler-Einstein metric from which we prove that the logarithmic cotangent bundle of the moduli space is stable. Another corolary is a proof of the equivalences of all of the known classical complete metrics to the new metrics, in particular Yau's conjectures in the early 80s on the equivalences of the Kahler-Einstein metric to the Teichmuller and the Bergman metric.Comment: Survey article of our recent results on the subject.     Assessment of the genetic basis of rosacea by genome-wide association study.

    Rosacea is a common, chronic skin disease that is currently incurable. Although environmental factors influence rosacea, the genetic basis of rosacea is not established. In this genome-wide association study, a discovery group of 22,952 individuals (2,618 rosacea cases and 20,334 controls) was analyzed, leading to identification of two significant single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with rosacea, one of which replicated in a new group of 29,481 individuals (3,205 rosacea cases and 26,262 controls). The confirmed SNP, rs763035 (P=8.0 × 10(-11) discovery group; P=0.00031 replication group), is intergenic between HLA-DRA and BTNL2. Exploratory immunohistochemical analysis of HLA-DRA and BTNL2 expression in papulopustular rosacea lesions from six individuals, including one with the rs763035 variant, revealed staining in the perifollicular inflammatory infiltrate of rosacea for both proteins. In addition, three HLA alleles, all MHC class II proteins, were significantly associated with rosacea in the discovery group and confirmed in the replication group: HLA-DRB1*03:01 (P=1.0 × 10(-8) discovery group; P=4.4 × 10(-6) replication group), HLA-DQB1*02:01 (P=1.3 × 10(-8) discovery group; P=7.2 × 10(-6) replication group), and HLA-DQA1*05:01 (P=1.4 × 10(-8) discovery group; P=7.6 × 10(-6) replication group). Collectively, the gene variants identified in this study support the concept of a genetic component for rosacea, and provide candidate targets for future studies to better understand and treat rosacea

    Comment on "Reinterpreting aircraft measurement in anisotropic scaling turbulence" by Lovejoy et al. (2009)

    Recently, Lovejoy et al. (2009) argued that the steep ~k−3 atmospheric kinetic energy spectrum at synoptic scales (≥1000 km) observed by aircraft is a spurious artefact of aircraft following isobars instead of isoheights. Without taking into account the earth's rotation they hypothesise that the horizontal atmospheric energy spectrum should scale as k−5/3 at all scales. We point out that the approximate k−3-spectrum at synoptic scales has been observed by a number of non-aircraft means since the 1960s and that general circulation models and other current models have successfully produced this spectrum. We also argue that the vertical movements of the aircraft are far too small to cause any strong effect on the measured spectrum at synoptic scales
