Antiferromagnetism and phase separation in the t-J model at low doping: a variational study
Using Gutzwiller-projected wave functions, I estimate the ground-state energy
of the t-J model for several variational states relevant for high-temperature
cuprate superconductors. The results indicate antiferromagnetism and phase
separation at low doping both in the superconducting state and in the
staggered-flux normal state proposed for the vortex cores. While phase
separation in the underdoped superconducting state may be relevant for the
stripe formation mechanism, the results for the normal state suggest that
similar charge inhomogeneities may also appear in vortex cores up to relatively

Angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia treated with Mohs micrographic surgery
A 60-year-old healthy man presented with several enlarging, tender, spontaneously bleeding, and episodically pruritic nodules on his ear. Five agminated pink-red papulonodules of the superior postauricular sulcus were noted on examination. Pathological examination revealed a lobular dermal vascular proliferation with plump endothelial cells protruding into the lumen in a hobnail pattern, along with a dense perivascular inflammatory infiltrate composed of plasma cells, lymphocytes, and numerous eosinophils. The diagnosis of angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia was confirmed. After discussing treatment modalities, the patient opted for Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS). Three stages of MMS were able to remove all large vessel involvement and clear the peripheral margins, but the tumor had a complex branching pattern of growth in the deep bed of the wound with numerous tiny foci remaining. Owing to risk of disfigurement, no further excision was undertaken. The area was reconstructed with a temporalis fascia flap and a full-thickness skin graft. Despite remaining microscopic disease, the patient remained without recurrence or symptoms at one year of follow up
Axions as Quintessence in String Theory
We construct a model of quintessence in string theory based on the idea of
axion monodromy as discussed by McAllister, Silverstein and Westphal
arXiv:0808.0706. In the model, the quintessence field is an axion whose shift
symmetry is broken by the presence of 5-branes which are placed in highly
warped throats. This gives rise to a potential for the axion field which is
slowly varying, even after incorporating the effects of moduli stabilization
and supersymmetry breaking. We find that the resulting time dependence in the
equation of state of Dark Energy is potentially detectable, depending on the
initial conditions. The model has many very light extra particles which live in
the highly warped throats, but these are hard to detect. A signal in the

Storm-time changes of geomagnetic field at MAGSAT altitudes (325-550 Km) and their comparison with changes at ground locations
The values of H, X, Y, Z at MAGSAT altitudes were first expressed as residuals delta H, delta X, delta Y, delta Z after subtracting the model HMD, XMD, YMD, ZMC. The storm-time variations of H showed that delta H (Dusk) was larger (negative) than delta H (Dawn) and occurred earlier, indicating a sort of hysteresis effect. Effects at MAGSAT altitudes were roughly the same (10% accuracy) as at ground, indicating that these effects were mostly of magnetospheric origin. The delta Y component also showed large storm-time changes. The latitudinal distribution of storm-time delta H showed north-south asymmetries varying in nature as the storm progressed. It seems that the central plane of the storm-time magnetospheric ring current undergoes latitudinal meanderings during the course of the storm

Encapsulation of water insoluble drugs in mesoporous silica nanoparticles using supercritical carbon dioxide
Mesoporous silica nanoparticles MCM – 41 were synthesized with two dimensional hexagonal p6mm symmetry, high specific surface area(~ 980m2/g) narrow pore size and an average particle size of 186 nm. The produced nanoparticles were used to encapsulate carbamazepine through a supercritical carbon dioxide process combined with various organic solvents. Supercritical processing was found to provide increased drug encapsulation. The loaded MCM - 41 nanoparticles were analyzed using X–ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) to investigate the crystalline state of the encapsulated carbamazepine and it was found to be dependent on the nature of the organic solvent. Carbamazepine showed increased dissolution rates under sink conditions. Viability studies of Caco – 2 cells demonstrated negligible cytotoxicity for the MCM–41 nanoparticles
Taxonomic account of genus Scylla (de Haan, 1833) from Gujarat State, India with two new records of species
The present study describes the taxonomic account of genus Scylla from Gujarat state, India. Specimens of crab were collected from 11 different marine sites/ habitats along the coastal region of the state. Of the several specimens examined on site, 30 morphologically distinct samples were selected for the study, and total 47 different morphological characters were measured. Three different species of genus Scylla were identified viz. Scylla serrata, Scylla tranquebarica and Scylla Olivacea. We report Scylla tranquebarica and Scylla Olivacea for the first time from the state. In general, S. serrata is reported as a dominant species with wide spread distribution while rest of the species show patchy distribution
