The importance of the fresh water outflow on a station situated in front of the Po river (Po di Goro)

The fractions of dissolved organic and inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus in sea water samples were monitored at the station S1, placed in front of the Po River mouth (44?44\u2770"N, 12?27\u2741"E). The aim was to extent our knowledge about the biochemical situation in an area that is highly influenced by fresh water loads by the .. 288 largest Italian river, and to estimate the portions of organic and inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus that were lost from the System due to physical and biochemical interactions. For this purpose, we chose to examine a sampling period with scarce river outflow (April 1995) and one with greater outflow (July 1995). Despite great nutrient loads in both sampling periods, our estimates revealed that almost the whole fraction of inorganic phosphorus (up to 92 % at April) and a part of the inorganic nitrogen (30 % at April and 42 % at July) was readily consumed at the station. Surprisingly the dissolved organic fraction of nitrogen (DON) was much greater at the station (up to 3120 % in April) than in the river water, and it constituted a conspicuous part of the total dissolved nitrogen in the study area. On the contrary, the dissolved organic fraction of phosphorus (DOP) did not accumulate in the coastal area, compared to the river water

A Knowledge, Attitude, and Perception Study on Flu and COVID-19 Vaccination during the COVID-19 Pandemic: Multicentric Italian Survey Insights

In January 2020, Chinese health authorities identified a novel coronavirus strain never before isolated in humans. It quickly spread across the world, and was eventually declared a pandemic, leading to about 310 million confirmed cases and to 5,497,113 deaths (data as of 11 January 2022). Influenza viruses affect millions of people during cold seasons, with high impacts, in terms of mortality and morbidity. Patients with comorbidities are at a higher risk of acquiring severe problems due to COVID-19 and the flu-infections that could impact their underlying clinical conditions. In the present study, knowledge, attitudes, and opinions of the general population regarding COVID-19 and influenza immunization were evaluated. A multicenter, web-based, cross-sectional study was conducted between 10 February and 12 July 2020, during the first wave of SARS-CoV-2 infections among the general population in Italy. A sample of 4116 questionnaires was collected at the end of the study period. Overall, 17.5% of respondents stated that it was unlikely that they would accept a future COVID-19 vaccine (n = 720). Reasons behind vaccine refusal/indecision were mainly a lack of trust in the vaccine (41.1%), the fear of side effects (23.4%), or a lack of perception of susceptibility to the disease (17.1%). More than 50% (53.8%; n = 2214) of the sample participants were willing to receive flu vaccinations in the forthcoming vaccination campaign, but only 28.2% of cases had received it at least once in the previous five seasons. A higher knowledge score about SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 and at least one flu vaccination during previous influenza seasons were significantly associated with the intention to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and influenza. The continuous study of factors, determining vaccination acceptance and hesitancy, is fundamental in the current context, in regard to improve vaccination confidence and adherence rates against vaccine preventable diseases

Fluid structure interactions applied to downwind yacht sails

    No full text
Sail analysis is a rapidly evolving field, since it has a big impact in the performances of yachts. In the present approach, a weak coupling in Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) configuration has been chosen. The flow is analyzed with a Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) Finite Volume (FV) solver with turbulence models, whereas the structural analysis is performed with non-linear MITC Shell Finite Elements (FE). The approach and examples are presented and discussed with regards to a two dimensional downwind sail section in turbulent flow

Intermediate Mass Fragments production at low energy: reaction mechanism and isospin influence

In this work, we present a recent study concerning the break-up of the Projectile-Like (PLF) into two fragments, following more violent deep-inelastic collisions in the reactions 78Kr + 40Ca and 86Kr + 48Ca at 10 A MeV, realized at INFN-Laboratori Nazionali del Sud by using the 4Ď€ multi detector CHIMERA. For these systems, we have already analyzed the fusion-evaporation and fission-like processes. A selection method has been developed, in order to discriminate PLF break up events from those due to other mechanisms which populate the same region of the phase- space. A preference for PLF aligned break-up, along the direction of the PLF-TLF separation axis with the light fragment emitted in the backward part, has been put in light, suggesting the presence of dynamical effects. Also a comparison between the neutron-rich 86Kr + 48Ca and neutron-poor 78Kr + 40Ca systems is presented, to put in evidence the isospin role in these processes

Potential experimental evidence of an Efimov state in

We describe the search of the Efimov state in 12C performed by analysing a large set of 3-α particles coincidence data measured at the LNS laboratories with the CHIMERA detector. The data are compatible with the presence of an Efimov state at the excitation energy of 7.485 MeV, with an excitation probability smaller than 0.3% of the population probability of the Hoyle state. The Efimov state gamma decay probability should be around 30%, much larger than the one of the Hoyle state. The population of this level is compatible with the Suda limit for the 3-α reaction rate in stars because its population should be possible only through direct 3-α reaction. More investigations improving the detector angular resolution are needed to confirm these preliminary observations
