Pujades i Sant Pere de Rodes: les inscripcions de Tassi i Hildesind

L’abandonament i el saqueig del monestir benedictí de Sant Pere de Rodes va comportar la desaparició d’escultures i d’inscripcions que formaven part del monument. D’aquests, Jeroni Pujades ha deixat testimoni de la de Tassi, noble fundador del cenobi, i la d’Hildesind, el seu fill i primer abat de la comunitat. Respecte la primera es revisen els principals documents, que permeten fixar el text més probable. Per que fa a la segona, la troballa de diversos fragments de la làpida permet resseguir les vicissituds que va patir la peça. Abstract The abandonment and sacking of the Benedictine monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes led to the disappearance of sculptures and inscriptions from the monument. Of them Jeroni Pujades has left us evidence of the inscription referring to Tassi, the abbey’s noble founder, and Hildesind, his son and the community’s first abbot. With regard to the former we review the main documents, which allow us to establish the most likely text. In regard to the latter, the find of various fragments of his tombstone allows us to trace the vicissitudes the piece has undergone over time

Un nou inversor itàlic en la viticultura de la Tarraconensis: Publi Baebi Tuticà

En aquest treball aportem la identificació d’un nou personatge que estava implicat en les inversions dirigides a desenvolupar a la Tarraconense una agricultura excedentària i especulativa a partir del conreu de la vinya, de la seva transformació i de l’exportació del vi. La coincidència dels tria nomina que trobem en determinades estampilles amfòriques amb els d’un personatge norditàlic de rang eqüestre, alhora que n’assegura la filiació, diversifica la visió tradicional d’una colonització de la Península Ibèrica protagonitzada per la zona centreitàlica.This work brings to light the identification of a new character who was involved in the investments directed towards developing an excessive and speculative agriculture, in the Tarraconensis area, based on the cultivation of vineyards, the elaboration and exportation of wine. The tria nomina found on certain amphora seals which coincides with those of a North Italian character from the equestrian rank assures filiation and at the same time diversifies the traditional vision of a colonization of the Iberian Peninsula protagonised by the central Italian area

Teaching a culture of care: Why it matters

The use of animal in biomedical research remains a critical compromise. Research and higher education institutions play a major role in educating on the use of animal and such training is expected to translate into the development of a culture of care practice across all staff working with animals. But nurturing a “culture of care” and impacting in professional attitudes in the field of animal research remains challenging due to its social, ethical and different institutional frameworks. From an educational perspective, current practice remains challenged by the need for better integration of inter-cultural perceptions on animal welfare, supported by more cross disciplinary integration in educational curriculum including the relevance of the 3Rs principles and promoting reflective practice strategies.  Institutional support is crucial to provide a safe, and supportive framework to promote such caring ethos. Our aim is to discuss practical actions to implement and assess culture of care, highlighting its direct impact on the professional integrity of staff which is directly linked to research and education excellence. Seeking a global welfare for all the beings involved and supporting individual and team reflective practice will provide better tools to guarantee the best care of the animals

Dels orígens de l’agricultura a l’agricultura exportadora d’època romana. Producció i transformació

El coneixement de la producció agrícola en les cultures antigues es basa en la recuperació dels establiments i dels artefactes i de les eines que s’usaven per aquesta funció, així com de l’estudi de les restes arqueobotàniques, que defineixen el sistema agrari, entès com un conjunt coordinat de treballs i tècniques de producció usats per tenir millors rendiments del sòl. En aquest treball es dóna una ràpida visió d’aquests sistemes agraris, que van des dels inicis de l’agricultura, en època neolítica, fins al sistema productiu d’època romana i com la gestió de la producció ha anat definint els diversos models de control del poder.Learning about the reality of agricultural production in ancient cultures is possible through the recovery of establishments and tools that were used in agriculture. Also, the study of archaeological remains of botanical species that define the agrarian systems (which consists of a combination of different production works and techniques, used to take as much profit of the land as possible) helps to achieve that knowledge. In this paper we will provide a quick overview of agrarian and production systems from the beginning of agriculture until Roman times. We will also describe how production management has been defining different forms of control of power

Joncaria en la civitas emporitana

Archaeological data from different excavation sites in Figueres and its immediate surroundings are not very conclusive and only allow to establish with certainty a settlement related to the Via Augusta and its possible development in the early and late Imperial period. Repeated references on settlements should be considered critically since these often are speculations or mere scholarly exercises on the existence of different settlements which never have been proven. The compilation and knowledge of these references should not be confused with the archaeological reality. This article also asserts that the knowledge about archaeological and historical data has been used for ideological ends in certain periods.Les dades arqueològiques referents a diversos tipus de jaciments a Figueres i al seu entorn immediat són poc concloents i només permeten assegurar l’existència d’un establiment vinculat al pas de la via Augusta i el seu possible desenvolupament en època alt i baix imperial. Cal ser crítics amb les notícies que es repeteixen regularment i que sovint només són especulacions o un exercici de pura erudició sobre l’existència de diversos assentaments que no han estat mai comprovats. La recollida i el coneixement d’aquestes notícies no ha de crear confusió sobre la seva realitat arqueològica. En el treball, s’insisteix també en la utilització que s’ha fet en diverses etapes del coneixement de les dades arqueològiques i històriques amb finalitats ideològiques
