    THE IMPACT OF QUESTIONING AND SEMANTIC MAP IN PRE-READING STAGE ON STUDENTS' READING COMPREHENSION: A COMPARATIVE STUDY

    Pre-reading activities play an important role in language reading classrooms since they help to activate studentsā€™ background knowledge of the topics being taught, which results in improving studentsā€™ reading comprehension. Most studies in the literature focus on exploring the effects of individual pre-reading activities such as brainstorming, pre-teaching vocabulary, questioning on studentsā€™ performance in doing comprehension tasks. Few studies have been conducted to explore whether one technique is better than the others in activating studentsā€™ schemata in reading lessons. The current study investigates the impact of Questioning and Semantic map in Pre-reading stage on EFL gifted high school studentsā€™ reading comprehension. The participants were 52 gifted students from two science classes for twelfth graders (they were non gifted English students). They shared the same culture, native language, educational background and age. The data were collected through two reading proficiency tests (pre-test and post-test) and individual interviews. The findings revealed that both Questioning and Semantic map had positive impacts on gifted studentsā€™ reading comprehension. Especially, the students who received Semantic treatment had significantly better improvement in their reading skill. The findings shed lights on what can be done to improve EFL studentsā€™ reading performance.Ā  Article visualizations

    Vietnamā€™s textile and garment industry: an overview

    Vietnam's textile and garment industry has been developing strongly and plays an increasingly important role in economic growth of the country. This industry also has a great impact on Vietnam's socio-economic development. At the same time, the textile and garment industry employs more than 1.6 million people, accounting for more than 12% of the industrial workforce and nearly 5% of the country's total labor force. This article aims to provide an overview of the Vietnamā€™s textile and garment industry and the vision of Vietnam's textile and garment industry to 2030. The results show that Vietnamā€™s textile and garment industry has contributed great value to Vietnamā€™s exports and GDP as well as solving employment. However, the Vietnamā€™s textile and garment industry still has some limitations. First, the mode of production is mainly based on the CMT (the mode of production produces the lowest added value). Second, the incomes and capacities of the labors have not matched with the development of the industry. Third, the size of enterprises is small, so the competitiveness of Vietnamā€™s textile and garment industry is limited in the international arena

    Texture-Modified Diets Need to be Improved

    Purpose : The aim of this study is to compare the nutritional status of older adult inpatients consuming Texture-Modified Diets (TMD) to older adult inpatients consuming a regular diet. Methods : The study was designed as cross-sectional and was conducted in three large hospitals in northern Vietnam. The data for 344 older adult inpatients were collected in 2021 by dietitians. Results : The result showed 104 subjects were prescribed TMD. The textures of hospital diets have still not been adequately developed. In particular, the hospitals had not yet developed pureed meals. All older adult inpatients (74.7 Ā± 6.8 years old, 52.9% female) had 28.8% malnutrition by the GLIM criteria. The TMD group had a malnutrition prevalence two times higher than the regular diet group. Total energy intake from hospital meal and outside snacks in the regular diet group was higher than in the TMD group, about 150 kcal. Although energy provided from the hospital diet in both groups was similar, hospital meal wastage in the TMD group was higher than in the regular diet group. Conclusion : The older adult inpatients on TMD may have a nutritional status worse than those consuming a regular diet. Hospital diets need to be improved in texture and quality

    Study of Physical Properties of Complex Scalar Field at Finite Density

    The physical properties of a relativistic model for complex scalar field at finite density are studied. It is shown that the boson is condensed when the critical chemical potential is equal to the boson mass in vacuum and the system undergoes the phase transition from normal to superconducting states. The latter state is signaled by the manifestations of the Meissner effect and the Abrikosov vortices in the presence of an electromagnetic field.     Effect of plant growth regulators on growth and lipid accumulation of microalgal Haematococcus pluvialis Flotow in two-stage culture

    Haematococcus pluvialis cells were cultured in aerated liquid Boldā€™s Basal medium in two-stage (initial stage during in 7 weeks for increased biomass growth and second stage during in 3 weeks for increased lipid accumulation) with different volumes 250 mL, 10 L, and 1,000 L. With a volume of 250 mL, the medium was supplied with benzyl adenine (BA), indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) or gibberellic acid (GA3) at concentration from 0.1 - 0.2 mg/L in initial stage and IAA or GA3 at concentration from 0.1 - 0.2 mg/L in second stage. After 10 weeks of culture, results showed that supplement of 0.1 mg/L BA in initial stage and 0.125 mg/L IAA in second stage increased cell density, and microalgal cells had green color with a spherical shape. On the contrary, supplement of 0.15 mg/L IAA in initial stage and 0.175 mg/L GA3 in second stage increased lipid accumulation, and microalgal cells had red color with a spherical shape. With a volume of 10 L, the medium was supplied with 0.1 mg/L BA in initial stage, and treated with separation or combination from 2 - 3 of these factors (nitrogen starvation, 0.5% NaCl, 4.98 mg/L FeSO4) were applied in second stage. The result showed that the cultures was treated with nitrogen starvation increased dry biomass and biofuel, but treated with 4.98 mg/L FeSO4 only increased biofuel. With a volume of 1,000 L, microalgal cells were cultured in BB liquid medium in initial stage, and treated with 4.98 mg/L FeSO4 increased fresh 78.67 mg/mL and dry biomass 2.05 mg/L and total lipid content 28.24 %/ DW

    Factors affecting intention to purchase organic agriculture products among Vietnamese

    Globally, customer intention to purchase has become the essential part of the product and organization's success in the market. More recently, the idea has captured the attention of academic and policymakers alike. Therefore, the current article analyses product quality features such as agreeableness, emotional stability conscientiousness, openness to experience and extroversion on the intention to purchase organic agricultural products in the context of Vietnam. The study also analyses the mediating role of customer satisfaction between the association of product quality features and intention to purchase organic products in Vietnam. The present study uses questionnaires to collect data pertaining to the health sector of Vietnam. The current study employs the smart-PLS to analyze the constructs and items' reliability as well as the association among constructs. The results show that product quality features except extroversion have a positive and significant association with intention to purchase organic products in Vietnam. The results also reveal that customer satisfaction significantly and positively mediates among the associations of product quality features and intention to purchase organic products in Vietnam.     Digital Transformation of the Banking Industry in Developing Countries

    Purpose: Ā The study's objective is to test the impact of digital transactions on banking performance. Based on the previous research and the actual situations, it has been recognized that the critical role of digital banking is in developing the banking industry, especially in developing countries. Ā  Theoretical framework: Ā In the next section, the study presents background information to promote the research. The digital transformation has changed how customers use financial services. This has pushed banks to adapt more quickly to the wave of digital transformation if they don't want to lose their valuable customer base. Ā  Design/methodology/approach: Ā the methodology applied uses POOL, FEM, REM, and FGLS models to examine the impact of banking transactions made by digital technology on the bank's deposit and lending revenue. This article studies banking operations on digital platforms from 2012 to 2019 in developing countries. Ā  Findings: The article's findings showed that digital banks' flexible products and services bring many benefits with a high level of interaction, such as supporting the relationship between customers and banks and improving operating revenue. Ā  Research, Practical & Social implications: Practical implications enhanced the development potential of digital banking is relatively large, stemming from the market demand development orientation of the banking industry.     For the breeding of Japanese netted melon, various types of foreign cultivars have been utilized for improving adaptability, disease and pest resistance, fruit quality and so on. However, little is known about their genetic diversity and relationships, since most cultivars derived from crosses between various horticultural groups. To figure out the genetic structure of Japanese melon, in this study, 57 melon accessions from three horticultural groups were examined using 55 RAPD markers produced by 24 RAPD primers. Genetic diversity of the Japanese netted melon was as high as those of cultivar groups of Groups Cantalupensis and Inodorus, while it was low in Group Conomon irrespective of large variations in fruit traits. Cluster analysis and PCO analysis based on genetic distance showed that Group Conomon was distantly related to other melon accessions. Among the latter, European cantaloupe (nonnetted) and American open-field type (netted) proved to be genetically close, while England glasshouse melon (netted) including ā€˜Earlā€™s Favouriteā€™ is distantly related to these two groups and closely related with Group Inodorus. It was therefore suggested that England glasshouse type was established from hybrids between European cantaloupe and Group Inodorus. Japanese netted melon was most closely related with England glasshouse type, irrespective of the fact that various kinds of melon accessions have been crossed to improve adaptability, disease resistance and so on. In contrast, pure line cultivars of the Japanese netted melon bred by pure line selection from ā€˜Earl's Favouriteā€™ or by crossing ā€˜Earlā€™s Favouriteā€™ with ā€˜British Queenā€™ were confirmed to be mostly homogenous, and it was difficult to establish RAPD markers to discriminate each cultivar. Group Conomon var. makuwa and var. conomon, which have been cultivated and utilized as different crops, proved to be genetically indistinguishable and were considered to share the same gene pool
