Dentro dos limites desta pesquisa, podemos concluir que o adesivo derivado de V.C. apresentou efeito semelhante ao Tissucol, com melhora no UNITERMOS: Adesivo de fibrina, reparação tecidual, experimento em animal processo de reparaçãoAbstract: Fibrin glue has been used in the medical area for several purposes (SAL TZ et al62. 1989), although in dentistry its use has been limited. Fibrin glue derived from snake venom fraction has been used experimentally in nerve repair in rats with goOO results as a substitute to conventional sutures (IUAN et al34. 1995, VITERBO & SILVA78 1997). The purpose of this work was to evaluate the effect of the fibrin glue (Tissucol@) and the fibrin glue derived from snake venom on wound healing after their application on standardized open wounds made in rabbit palate. The lateral closure of the wounds was measured macroscopically using a software to analyze digitized standard photographs at 1, 4 and 7 days afier the surgical procedure. Histological analysis was performed to evaluate epithelial proliferation, development of granulation tissue and macromolecular organization of matrix. Histometric analysis was obtained in order to evaluate the area of birrefringent collagen fibers using a software (KS400) to the measurements. Results showed that both fibrin glues did not induce damage to the tissues. Furthermore, collagen bundles tended to be thicker in fibrin glue groups (TIS=49625.25 pixels2;V.C.=49984.72; Controle=47023.44, Tukey Test. 5%). Macroscopic analysis revealed a tendency for fibrin glue (Tissucol and snake venom derived) treated wounds to heal faster (lateral closure) than control (Tukey 5%). Within the limits of this work, it was possible to conclude that both fibrin glues were biocompatible and presented a positive effect on wound healing UNITERMS: Fibrin glue, Wound healing, animal experimentDoutoradoPeriodontiaDoutor em Odontologi

Purpose: Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) is a cytokine that participates in the regulation of immune responses and inflammatory reactions. It is hypothesized that IL-1 levels may be elevated in patients suffering from temporomandibular joint dysfunction. The purpose of this study was to determine the association of IL-1β expression with TMD using an immunohistochemical approach to evaluate the joint disc. Materials and methods: A total of 39 human temporomandibular joint disc samples were collected, with 31 samples in the test group. Nineteen of the test group samples were from discs of patients with anterior disc displacement with reduction, and 12 of the samples were from patients with anterior disc displacement without reduction. Eight control samples were used in the control group. The samples were immunostained and evaluated on both quantity and intensity of staining. Results: There was a statistically significant difference (p \u3c 0.05) between the control and test groups for both quantity and intensity of staining. Conclusion: IL-1β plays a role in the inflammatory process and degradation of TMJ discs in patients with TMJ dysfunctions

Introduction: Down Syndrome (DS) patients have increased susceptibility to the development of periodontal diseases by the occurrence of several factors, such as inadequate hygiene, mouth breathing, dental morphology, leukocyte reduction and increased inflammatory mediators. Objective: This study aimed to review the literature on the main aspects of DS and present a clinical case of a DS patient treated with basic periodontal therapy and free gingival graft surgery. Case report: DS patient, leucoderma, aged 26 years showed gingival recession and little amount of keratinized tissue in the area of teeth #31 and #41. After surgery, there was an increase in the keratinized tissue band. Conclusion: The free gingival graft surgery performed in DS patients was effective, as the increase of keratinized tissue band occurred

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Bismuth subgallate on wound healing. In fifty five Wistar rats, two standardised wounds were made with a biopsy punch ( 3,5 mm X 2,0 mm ) at the back of each rat. Test wound was filled with bismuth subgallate and the control with salina 0,9%. The periods of evaluation were 1, 4, 7, 11 and 18 days. The methods utilised were: qualitative evaluation of the granulation tissue morphology; evaluation of collagen synthesis (polarisation microscopy / birefringence); histometric evaluation of digitalized histology images and evaluation of a macroscopic ( photograph ) group. The results showed that: histologically there were no relevant differences between test and control, with collagen synthesis very similar to each other. At the photographic group, no statistically significant difference (ANOVA) was observed between test and control, related to the lateral closure of the wounds. Histometrically, the parameters analysed ( area of ulceration - Day 1; distance between epithelial edges - Day 4 and area of granulation tissue - Days 7, 11 and 18 ) showed that there were statistically significant differences between test and control ( ANOVA - Days 1 and 4; student t test , p<0,05 - Days 7, 11 and 18 ). It was concluded that bismuth subgallate did not interfere on wound healing quality, being biocompatible to the tissues, showing only a greater area of granulation tissue due to the physical presence of bismuth subgallateMestradoPeriodontiaMestre em Clínica Odontológic

Experimental Surgical and Orthodontic Extrusion of Teeth in Dogs

The purpose of this study was to evaluate histologically the root surfaces of teeth submitted to orthodontic and surgical extrusion procedures in a dog model. Eighteen adult male dogs, divided into six groups of three dogs each, were used in the study Each animal underwent two procedures: rapid orthodontic extrusion and surgical extrusion of the maxillary lateral incisors. The animals were sacrificed to produce samples at 7, 14, 45, 90, 120, and 180 days after surgery for assessment of cross sections of the coronal, medial, and apical thirds of the treated teeth. At early time points, some active surface and inflammatory resorption was observed exclusively in the surgical extrusion group; however, samples collected at later times demonstrated functional repair of the resorption gaps in both groups. Ankylosis was observed as a minor event and was apparently of a transient nature in samples of the surgical extrusion group. The results demonstrate the importance of maintaining the periodontal ligament and cementum surface; both are vital for the prevention of root resorption. It may be postulated that orthodontic extrusion is more conservative and physiologic than surgical extrusion; however the results showed that function was restored in both groups.
