On convolution closure properties of subexponentiality approaching from densities

Non-closedness of subexponentiality by the convolution operation is well-known. We go a step further and show that subexponentiality and non-subexponentiality are generally changeable by the convolution. We also give several conditions, by which (non-) subexponentiality is kept. Most results are given with densities, which are easily converted to those for distributions. As a by-product, we give counterexamples to several past results, which were used to derive the non-closedness of the convolution, and modify the original proof.Comment: 23 page

Runge-Lenz Vector as a 3d Projection of SO(4) Moment Map in R4×R4\mathbb{R}^{4}\times\mathbb{R}^{4} Phase Space

We show, using the methods of geometric algebra, that Runge-Lenz vector in the Kepler problem is a 3-dimensional projection of SO(4) moment map that acts on the phase space of 4-dimensional particle motion. Thus, RL vector is a consequence of geometric symmetry of R4×R4\mathbb{R}^4\times \mathbb{R}^4 phase space

Screening of soy protein-derived hypotriglyceridemic di-peptides in vitro and in vivo

Abstract

Background

Soy protein and soy peptides have attracted considerable attention because of their potentially beneficial biological properties, including antihypertensive, anticarcinogenic, and hypolipidemic effects. Although soy protein isolate contains several bioactive peptides that have distinct physiological activities in lipid metabolism, it is not clear which peptide sequences are responsible for the triglyceride (TG)-lowering effects. In the present study, we investigated the effects of soy protein-derived peptides on lipid metabolism, especially TG metabolism, in HepG2 cells and obese Otsuka Long-Evans Tokushima fatty (OLETF) rats.

Results

In the first experiment, we found that soy crude peptide (SCP)-LD3, which was prepared by hydrolyze of soy protein isolate with endo-type protease, showed hypolipidemic effects in HepG2 cells and OLETF rats. In the second experiment, we found that hydrophilic fraction, separated from SCP-LD3 with hydrophobic synthetic absorbent, revealed lipid-lowering effects in HepG2 cells and OLETF rats. In the third experiment, we found that Fraction-C (Frc-C) peptides, fractionated from hydrophilic peptides by gel permeation chromatography-high performance liquid chromatography, significantly reduced TG synthesis and apolipoprotein B (apoB) secretion in HepG2 cells. In the fourth experiment, we found that the fraction with 0.1% trifluoroacetic acid, isolated from Frc-C peptides by octadecylsilyl column chromatography, showed hypolipidemic effects in HepG2 cells. In the final experiment, we found that 3 di-peptides, Lys-Ala, Val-Lys, and Ser-Tyr, reduced TG synthesis, and Ser-Tyr additionally reduced apoB secretion in HepG2 cells.

Conclusion

Novel active peptides with TG-lowering effects from soy protein have been isolated.</p

Effect of High Fat Loading in Dahl Salt-Sensitive Rats

Salt sensitivity of blood pressure (BP) is speculated to be a characteristic in obesity-induced hypertension. To elucidate the influence of obesity on salt-sensitive hypertension, we examined the effect of fat loading on BP, renal damage, and their progression induced by salt excess in Dahl salt-sensitive (S) rats. High fat (HF: 45% fat diet: 8 weeks) diet increased BP with greater weight gain and visceral fat accumulation than low fat (10% fat) diet. In HF-fed rats, plasma glucose, plasma insulin, and urinary catecholamine increased, and urinary protein tended to be elevated. Moreover, excessive salt (8% salt diet: 8 weeks)-induced hypertension and proteinuria was accelerated in HF-fed rats. Therefore, fat loading increased BP in Dahl S rats possibly through insulin-resistance and sympathetic excitation. Moreover, fat loading accelerated salt-induced BP elevation and renal damage, suggesting excessive intake of both fat and salt, such as a civilized diet, exert the synergic harmful effects

Elevated levels of plasma lactate dehydrogenase is an unfavorable prognostic factor in patients with epidermal growth factor receptor mutation-positive non-small cell lung cancer, receiving treatment with gefitinib or erlotinib.

Treatment with epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) has been shown to prolong survival in patients with EGFR mutation-positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The present study performed a retrospective analysis to investigate the association between the plasma lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels and survival in patients with EGFR mutation-positive NSCLC receiving treatment with EGFR-TKIs. The medical charts of patients with EGFR mutation-positive NSCLC who were receiving treatment with EGFR-TKIs at Toyama University Hospital between 2007 and 2014 were assessed. The data from 65 patients were included in the analysis. Patients with higher plasma LDH levels exhibited shorter progression-free survival (6.2 vs. 13.2 months; P<0.01) and overall survival (10.5 vs. 36.1 months; P<0.01) periods compared with patients with lower plasma LDH levels. A Cox proportional hazards model identified that the plasma LDH level was associated with the progression-free survival (P=0.05) and overall survival (P<0.01). An association was demonstrated between the pretreatment plasma LDH level and the survival in patients with EGFR mutation-positive NSCLC receiving treatment with EGFR-TKIs. Close observation is required in EGFR mutation-positive NSCLC patients exhibiting high plasma LDH levels following the initiation of treatment with EGFR-TKIs.出版社サイトへのリンク:https://doi.org/10.3892/mco.2016.77

Oral intake of rice overexpressing ubiquitin ligase inhibitory pentapeptide prevents atrophy in denervated skeletal muscle

We previously reported that intramuscular injections of ubiquitin ligase CBLB inhibitory pentapeptide (Cblin; Asp-Gly-pTyr-Met-Pro) restored lost muscle mass caused by sciatic denervation. Here, we detected Cblin on the basolateral side of Caco-2 cells after being placed on the apical side, and found that cytochalasin D, a tight junction opener, enhanced Cblin transport. Orally administered Cblin was found in rat plasma, indicating that intact Cblin was absorbed in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, transgenic Cblin peptide-enriched rice (CbR) prevented the denervation-induced loss of muscle mass and the upregulation of muscle atrophy-related ubiquitin ligases in mice. These findings indicated that CbR could serve as an alternative treatment for muscle atrophy
