    Deformed Phase Space in Cosmology and Black Holes

    It is well known that one way to study canonical quantum cosmology is through the Wheeler DeWitt (WDW) equation where the quantization is performed on the minisuperspace variables. The original ideas of a deformed minisuperspace were done in connection with noncommutative cosmology, by introducing a deformation into the minisuperspace in order to incorporate an effective noncommutativity. Therefore, studying solutions to Cosmological models through the WDW equation with deformed phase space could be interpreted as studying quantum effects to Cosmology. In this chapter, we make an analysis of scalar field cosmology and conclude that under a phase space transformation and imposed restriction, the effective cosmological constant is positive. On the other hand, obtaining the wave equation for the noncommutativity Kantowski-Sachs model, we are able to derive a modified noncommutative version of the entropy. To that purpose, the Feynman-Hibbs procedure is considered in order to calculate the partition function of the system

    Theoretical treatments of fusion processes in collisions of weakly bound nuclei

    We review the theoretical methods to evaluate fusion cross sections in collisions of weakly bound nuclei. We piont out that in such collisions the coupling to the breakup channel leads to the appearance of different fusion processes. The extentsion of the coupled-channel method to coupling with the continuum is the most successful treatment for these collisions.     In silico prediction of secretory proteins of Opisthorchis viverrini, Clonorchis sinensis and Fasciola hepatica that target the host cell nucleus

    Liver flukes Fasciola hepatica, Opisthorchis viverrini and Clonorchis sinensis are causing agents of liver and hepatobiliary diseases. A remarkable difference between such worms is the fact that O. viverrini and C. sinensis are carcinogenic organisms whereas F. hepatica is not carcinogenic. The release of secretory factors by carcinogenic flukes seems to contribute to cancer development however if some of these target the host cell nuclei is unknown. We investigated the existence of O. viverrini and C. sinensis secretory proteins that target the nucleus of host cells and compared these with the corresponding proteins predicted in F. hepatica. Here we applied an algorithm composed by in silico approaches that screened and analyzed the potential genes predicted from genomes of liver flukes. We found 31 and 22 secretory proteins that target the nucleus of host cells in O. viverrini and C. sinensis, respectively, and that have no homologs in F. hepatica. These polypeptides have enriched the transcription initiation process and nucleic acid binding in O. viverrini and C. sinensis, respectively. In addition, other 11 secretory proteins of O. viverrini and C. sinensis, that target the nucleus of host cells, had F. hepatica homologs, have enriched RNA processing function. In conclusion, O. viverrini and C. sinensis have 31 and 22 genes, respectively, that may be involved in their carcinogenic action through a direct targeting on the host cell nuclei. © 2021 The Author(s

    Immune activation throughout a boosted darunavir monotherapy simplification strategy

    AbstractOur aim was to assess the evolution and the impact that blips, intermittent low-level viraemia and virological failure (VF) episodes have on patients’ immune activation (IA) profiles during ritonavir-boosted darunavir monotherapy (mtDRV/rtv). A prospective cohort of human immunodeficiency virus-1-infected patients who switched to mtDRV/rtv was followed for 2 years. Cellular IA was assessed according to HLA-DR and CD38 expression in CD4+ and CD8+ T-cells and their naïve, effector memory and central memory subpopulations, and systemic IA was evaluated according to sCD14 and D-dimer levels. Seventy-five patients from the MonDAR cohort were selected for this substudy, and classified according to viral outcome as having continuous undetectable viraemia (n = 19), blips (n = 19), intermittent viraemia (n = 21), and VF (n = 16). The IA profile was closely linked to viral behaviour. Patients on viral suppression for 24 months showed a significant decrease in CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell activation and sCD14 and D-dimer levels. Patients with transient low-level viraemia episodes (blips and intermittent viraemia) showed cellular and systemic IA similar to baseline values. In contrast, significant increases in T-cell activation and sCD14 and D-dimer levels were observed in patients with VF. Baseline levels of HLA-DR+CD38+CD8+ T-cells of >6.4% were independently associated with the emergence of VF. Therefore, mtDRV/rtv might be considered as a safe simplification strategy, on the basis of the IA results, whenever viral replication is under medium-term and long-term control. Transient low-level viraemia episodes do not affect patients’ IA status. Moreover, HLA-DR+CD38+CD8+ T-cell baseline levels should be considered when patients are switched to mtDRV/rtv

    Effect of continuum couplings in fusion of halo 11^{11}Be on 208^{208}Pb around the Coulomb barrier

    The effect of continuum couplings in the fusion of the halo nucleus 11^{11}Be on 208^{208}Pb around the Coulomb barrier is studied using a three-body model within a coupled discretised continuum channels (CDCC) formalism. We investigate in particular the role of continuum-continuum couplings. These are found to hinder total, complete and incomplete fusion processes. Couplings to the projectile 1p1/21p_{1/2} bound excited state redistribute the complete and incomplete fusion cross sections, but the total fusion cross section remains nearly constant. Results show that continuum-continuum couplings enhance the irreversibility of breakup and reduce the flux that penetrates the Coulomb barrier. Converged total fusion cross sections agree with the experimental ones for energies around the Coulomb barrier, but underestimate those for energies well above the Coulomb barrier.Comment: 15 pages, 7 figures, accepted in Phys.     Tomography of Galactic star-forming regions and spiral arms with the Square Kilometre Array

    Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike LicenceVery Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) at radio wavelengths can provide astrometry accurate to 10 micro-arcseconds or better (i.e. better than the target GAIA accuracy) without being limited by dust obscuration. This means that unlike GAIA, VLBI can be applied to star-forming regions independently of their internal and line-of-sight extinction. Low-mass young stellar objects (particularly T Tauri stars) are often non-thermal compact radio emitters, ideal for astrometric VLBI radio continuum experiments. Existing observations for nearby regions (e.g. Taurus, Ophiuchus, or Orion) demonstrate that VLBI astrometry of such active T Tauri stars enables the reconstruction of both the regions' 3D structure (through parallax measurements) and their internal kinematics (through proper motions, combined with radial velocities). The extraordinary sensitivity of the SKA telescope will enable similar "tomographic mappings" to be extended to regions located several kpc from Earth, in particular to nearby spiral arm segments. This will have important implications for Galactic science, galactic dynamics and spiral structure theories.Final Published versio

    Projectile breakup dynamics for 6^{6}Li + 59^{59}Co: kinematical analysis of α\alpha-dd coincidences

    A study of the kinematics of the α\alpha-dd coincidences in the 6^{6}Li + 59^{59}Co system at a bombarding energy of Elab=29.6E_{lab} = 29.6 MeV is presented. With exclusive measurements performed over different angular intervals it is possible to identify the respective contributions of the sequential projectile breakup and direct projectile breakup components. A careful analysis using a semiclassical approach of these processes provides information on both their lifetime and their distance of occurrence with respect to the target. Breakup to the low-lying (near-threshold) continuum is delayed, and happens at large internuclear distances. This suggests that the influence of the projectile breakup on the complete fusion process can be related essentially to direct breakup to the 6^6Li high-lying continuum spectrum. %Comment: Revised version including new Fig.3 and Fig.4 with new CDCC calculations.
