    CANreduce-SP—adding psychological support to web-based adherence-focused guided self-help for cannabis users: study protocol for a three-arm randomized control trial

    Background: Cannabis is the most-frequently used illicit drug in Europe. Over the last few years in Spain, treatment demand has increased, yet most cannabis users do not seek treatment despite the related problems. A web-based self-help tool, like CANreduce 2.0, could help these users to control their consumption. Methods: This study protocol describes a three-arm randomized controlled trial (RCT) comparing the effectiveness of three approaches, in terms of reducing cannabis use among problematic cannabis users, the first two treatment arms including the Spanish version of CANreduce 2.0 (an adherence-focused, guidance-enhanced, web-based self-help tool) (1) with and (2) without psychological support; and the third group (3) treatment as usual (TAU). Study hypotheses will be tested concerning the primary outcome: change in the number of days of cannabis use over the previous week, comparing assessments at 6 weeks and 3 and 6 months follow-up between groups and against baseline. Secondary outcomes related to cannabis use will be tested similarly. Mental disorders will be explored as predictors of adherence and outcomes. Analyses will be performed on an intention-to-treat basis, then verified by complete case analyses. Discussion: This study will test how effective the Spanish version of CANreduce 2.0 (CANreduce-SP) is at reducing both the frequency and quantity of cannabis use in problematic users and whether adding psychological support increases its effectiveness. Trial registration: This trial is registered with the Clinical Trials Protocol Registration and Results System (PRS) number: NCT04517474 .     Socioeconomic inequalities and the equity impact of population-level interventions for adolescent health: an overview of systematic reviews

    Objectives: Despite robust evidence on health inequalities in adulthood, less attention has been paid to inequalities in adolescence. The aim of this overview was to examine systematic review (SR) evidence on the equity impact of population-level interventions intended to improve health, happiness and wellbeing for adolescents. Study Design: An overview (review of systematic reviews). Methods: Eleven electronic databases were systematically searched to identify SRs of population-level interventions for adolescent health. A secondary data analysis of socioeconomic inequality was conducted to identify whether SRs reported on primary studies in terms of disadvantage, by measures of socioeconomic status (SES) and by differential effects. Results: 35,310 review titles were screened; 566 full texts were retrieved and 140 SRs met the predefined selection criteria. Differential intervention effects were considered in 42/140 (30%) SRs, 18/140 (13%) reported primary studies using an SES measure and 16/140 (11%) explicitly reported differential effects. 15/140 SRs (11%) explicitly focused on socioeconomic inequalities; of these 4/15 reported differential intervention effects in more detail, 7/15 concluded there was insufficient primary evidence to identify the impact of interventions on socioeconomic inequalities and 4/15 planned to examine differential effects by SES, but this was not reported further. Conclusions: Our overview identifies that there is limited SR evidence on the equity impact of population-level interventions for adolescent health. Strengthening the evidence on whether interventions narrow or widen inequalities for adolescents must be a priority for public health research

    La incidencia de la inclusión dentaria oscila entre el 8% y el 14% de la población general. Los dientes incluidos (retenidos en el maxilar superior o en la mandíbula) que no reciben el tratamiento adecuado pueden lesionar los dientes vecinos y ocasionar infecciones, quistes foliculares o de otra índole. Actualmente, se dispone de varias posibilidades terapéuticas aunque, para lograr el éxito en cualquiera de ellas, es indispensable diagnosticar la inclusión dentaria de forma precoz. El objetivo de este trabajo ha sido diseñar unos métodos cefalométricos que faciliten el diagnóstico y permitan establecer el abordaje terapéutico más adecuado y el pronóstico de la inclusión dentaria a través de unas sencillas mediciones efectuadas sobre una ortopantomografía, un método radiológico de práctica generalizada y que, por otra parte, no supone un exceso en el coste global del tratamiento de este frecuente problema de salud dental

    Environmental effect on egress simulation

    Abstract. Evacuation and egress simulations can be a useful tool for studying the effect of design decisions on the flow of agent movement. This type of simulation can be used to determine before hand the effect of design decisions and enable exploration of potential improvements. In this work, we study at how agent egress is affected by the environment in real world and large scale virtual environments and investigate metrics to analyze the flow. Our work differs from many evacuation systems in that we support grouping restrictions between agents (e.g., families or other social groups traveling together), and model scenarios with multiple modes of transportation with physically realistic dynamics (e.g., individuals walk from a building to their own cars and leave only when all people in the group arrive).

    Transition-metal interactions in aluminum-rich intermetallics

    The extension of the first-principles generalized pseudopotential theory (GPT) to transition-metal (TM) aluminides produces pair and many-body interactions that allow efficient calculations of total energies. In aluminum-rich systems treated at the pair-potential level, one practical limitation is a transition-metal over-binding that creates an unrealistic TM-TM attraction at short separations in the absence of balancing many-body contributions. Even with this limitation, the GPT pair potentials have been used effectively in total-energy calculations for Al-TM systems with TM atoms at separations greater than 4 AA. An additional potential term may be added for systems with shorter TM atom separations, formally folding repulsive contributions of the three- and higher-body interactions into the pair potentials, resulting in structure-dependent TM-TM potentials. Towards this end, we have performed numerical ab-initio total-energy calculations using VASP (Vienna Ab Initio Simulation Package) for an Al-Co-Ni compound in a particular quasicrystalline approximant structure. The results allow us to fit a short-ranged, many-body correction of the form a(r_0/r)^{b} to the GPT pair potentials for Co-Co, Co-Ni, and Ni-Ni interactions.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures, submitted to PR

    Asymptotic Analysis of Coagulation–Fragmentation Equations of Carbon Nanotube Clusters

    The possibility of the existence of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) in organic solvents in the form of clusters is discussed. A theory is developed based on abundletmodel for clusters describing the distribution function of clusters by size. The phenomena have a unified explanation in the framework of the bundlet model of a cluster, in accordance with which the free energy of an SWNT involved in a cluster is combined from two components: a volume one, proportional to the number of moleculesnin a cluster, and a surface one, proportional ton1/2. During the latter stage of the fusion process, the dynamics were governed mainly by the displacement of the volume of liquid around the fusion site between the fused clusters. The same order of magnitude for the average cluster-fusion velocity is deduced if the fusion process starts with several fusion sites. Based on a simple kinetic model and starting from the initial state of pure monomers, micellization of rod-like aggregates at high critical micelle concentration occurs in three separated stages. A convenient relation is obtained for <n> at transient stage. At equilibrium, another relation determines dimensionless binding energy α. A relation with surface dilatational viscosity is obtained

    Condensation and interaction range in harmonic boson traps: a variational approach

    For a gas of N bosons interacting through a two-body Morse potential a variational bound of the free energy of a confined system is obtained. The calculation method is based on the Feynman-Kac functional projected on the symmetric representation. Within the harmonic approximation a variational estimate of the effect of the interaction range on the existence of many-particle bound states, and on the N-T phase diagram is obtained.Comment: 14 pages+4 figures, submitted to phys.rev.

    The purpose of the study is to present an end-to-end experimental procedure, based on a polymer gel phantom, capable of assessing the total geometric uncertainty in GK radiosurgery applications, in which MR images are solely used for both target delineation and registration of patient image coordinates to the Leksell space. As a result the study aims to propose a time-efficient method, based on corresponding polymer gel results, which considerably improves the geometric accuracy in GK treatment delivery
