Stainless steels reinforced with intermetallics useful against corrosion and wear
Powder Technology Research Group has developed an innovative family of composite materials is presented. Metallic matrix are austenitic and ferritic stainless steels, and as reinforcements, intermetallics, have been used in quantities from 1% to 15% (vol.). These materials combine excellent properties against corrosion and wear, so they become very useful for structural applications, in areas like aerospace and automotive.
The research group is trying to find companies in order to establish license agreements and/or collaborative projects for the technology development and validation. The companies profile sectors would be the manufacturers of materials, components or structures for aerospace and automotive areas.Contrato Programa de Comercialización e Internacionalización. Feedstocks development for Metal Injection Moulding
Today, more tan 90% of used feedstock for MIM in Europe, came from BASF (exclusive patent), with low possibility for change compositions or costs (in Japan or USA, the percentage is quite smaller). In our research group (Powder Technology Group) we can develop new feedstocks formulation that can be used directly by the MIM parts manufacturers and fulfilling their composition requirements. Interest in licensing the applied patent or commercial agreement with technical assistance with companies that would like to incorporate this technology
Design and manufacturing of master alloys for sintering activation in high performance structural parts
Nowadays, the development of high performance structural parts, is limited by the fact that the alloying systems are being modifying by requirements associated to envorimental guideline as well as to the increase in the price of raw materials. The use of masteralloys allows to activate the mass transport processes during sintering with a minimum modification of final composition (low cost) acting on densification, and hence, on final properties.
The research group of “Powder Technology” from Carlos III University, has a wide experience and qualification on the design of new alloying systems and in manufacturing the powders by atomization and mechanical alloying techniques.
The Group is looking for companies interested in technical cooperation or manufacturing agreement
Powder metallurgy: A new open section in metals
Powder Metallurgy (PM) is a forming technology that uses metallic (sometimes also in conjunction with ceramic) powders to develop parts, most of the time through a thermal process called sintering, which never reaches the melting point of the principal component of the alloy [...

Toward high performance in powder metallurgy
Powder Metallurgy (PM) is technology well known for mass production of parts at low cost but usually with worse mechanical properties than same parts obtained by alternative routes. But using this technology, high performance materials can be obtained, depending of the processing route and the type and amount of porosity. In this paper, a brief review of the capabilities of powder technology is made with the objective of attaining the highest level of mechanical and physical properties. For this purpose, different strategies over the processing can be chosen: to act over the density/porosity level and properties of the pores, to act over strengthening mechanisms apart from the density of the material (the alloying system, the microstructure, the grain size,..), to improve the sintering activity by different routes and to use techniques that avoid the grain growth during sintering
High Entropy Alloys Manufactured by Additive Manufacturing
High entropy alloys have attracted much interest over the last 16 years due to their promising an unusual properties in different fields that offer many new possible application. Additionally, additive manufacturing has drawn attention due to its versatility and flexibility ahead of a new material challenge, being a suitable technology for the development of metallic materials. Moreover, high entropy alloys have demonstrated that many gaps exist in the literature on its physical metallurgy, and in this sense, additive manufacturing could be a feasible technology for solving many of these challenges. In this review paper the newest literature on this topic is condensed into three different aspects: the different additive manufacturing technologies employed to process high entropy alloys, the influence of the processing conditions and composition on the expected structure and microstructure and information about the mechanical and corrosion behavior of these alloys
