Ýmalat Sanayinde Firma Risklerinin Belirlenmesi: Kumeleme Analizi Yontemiyle Ampirik Bir Calýsma

In this study an alternative approach for determining the risk premiums of financial assets and identifying the total risk level of firms is proposed. The limitations and difficulties encountered in the application of widely used approaches such as The Capital Asset Pricing Model and The Arbitrage Pricing Theory caused this necessity. This approach uses financial ratios derived from the quarterly financial statements of 129 sampled manufacturing firms listed in ISE (Istanbul Stock Exchange) for the period of January 2004 to September 2009. Two-Step Cluster Analysis is employed to calculate the business risk, financial risk and the total risk of sample firms.Financial Risk, Business Risk, Capital Asset Pricing, Two-Step Cluster Analysis

Buyer control over outsourced service delivery in public service triads

    Get PDF
The aim of this research inquiry is to understand how, in public contracts, service delivery is controlled in relation to the separation between the buyer, service provider and service delivery. Moreover, to explore the influence of buyer separation, task programmability, and outcome uncertainty variables on a buyer’s control mechanisms during pre-tendering, during tendering, and post- tendering stages in public service contracting. Next, buyer risk mitigating strategies that facilitate maintaining control over service delivery in public sector service triads is investigated by comparing different public service triad types that have varying buyer separation, task programmability and outcome uncertainty levels. The research inquiry embraces a multiple embedded case study research design and is conducted in cooperation with Scotland Excel and seven Scottish Councils in four different service sectors – care homes, fostering, waste management, and engineering and technical consultancy. A unique form of thematic analysis that is suggested by Stake (2006), specifically for a structured analysis of qualitative multiple case studies is embraced by this research inquiry. The analysis method is conducted in two-levels, for embedded and for main cases of the research. Consequently, the research contributes to the gap in our knowledge in three fundamental area. First, a literature contribution by proposing a taxonomy of public sector buyer’s control difficulties over service delivery in service triad setting. Second, a literature contribution by identifying and elaborating an impacting variable for service triads buyer’s separation. Third, a theoretical contribution to the principal-agency theory by identifying new principal and agent relationship types that a specific for public sector service triads

A Novel Millimeter-Wave Dual-Fed Phased Array for Beam Steering

    Get PDF
In this dissertation, a novel beam steering approach is presented based on the superposition of two squinted antenna beams. The two antenna beams are realized by exciting the opposite feeds of a dual-fed array antenna. A change in the phase difference and amplitude ratio between the input signals, using only one phase shifter and two variable gain amplifiers or only two I-Q vector modulators, steers the main beam in different directions electronically

Towards geometrically robust data-hiding with structured codebooks

In this paper we analyze performance of practical robust data-hiding in channels with geometrical transformations. By applying information-theoretic argument we show that performance of a system designed based on both random coding and random binning principles is bounded by the same maximal achievable rate for the cases when communication channel includes geometrical transformations or not. Targeting to provide theoretic performance limits of practical robust data-hiding we model it using a multiple access channel (MAC) with side information (SI) available at one of encoders and present the bounds on achievable rates of reliable communications to such a protocol. Finally, considering template-based and redundant-based design of geometrically robust data-hiding systems, we perform security analysis of their performance and present results in terms of number of trial efforts the attacker needs to completely remove hidden informatio

Effects of the acute exposure to the electromagnetic field of mobile phones on human auditory brainstem responses

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the short-term effects of the electromagnetic fields (EMF) of mobile phones on human auditory brainstem responses. This prospective study of healthy adults evaluated the influence of EMF. Eighteen healthy adult volunteers participated in this study. Mobile telephones emitting signals in the region of 900MHz and with the highest SAR value of 0.82W/kg were positioned in direct contact to the right ear, which was exposed to the phone signal for 15min before and after ABR testing with click stimuli of 60 and 80dB nHL intensities. The latencies of the waves and interwave latencies were measured on screen by an experienced audiologist. The differences of the mean latencies of waves I, III and IV were not significant in initial and post-exposure ABR measurements at both 60 and 80dB nHL stimulus levels ( P >0.05). Similarly, differences of the mean interwave intervals I-III, I-V and III-V remained insignificant at the initial and postexposure ABR measurements at stimulus levels of both 60 and 80dB nHL ( P >0.05). Acute exposure to the EMF of mobile phones does not cause perturbations in ABR latencies. However, these negative results should not encourage excessive mobile communication, because minor biological and neurophysiological influences may not be detectable by the current technolog

Laryngeal involvement in patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis

    Get PDF
The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of laryngeal tuberculosis (LT) among patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis. A total of 319 patients under treatment for pulmonary tuberculosis were subjected to laryngoscopy. Five patients (1.5%) with LT were identified. Odynophagia was the most common complaint, followed by alteration in voice. The larynx returned to its normal appearance in 3-8months (average 18weeks) by antituberculous medication. Physicians dealing with pulmonary tuberculosis should keep in mind that symptoms of laryngeal involvement may be minor, and laryngoscopy should always be performed when laryngeal involvement is suspected in order to isolate highly infectious patients. Response to antituberculous medication is usually late in LT and diagnosis by "wait and watch” policy will cause a significant delay in the diagnosis of a possible larynx carcinom

THE EFFICACY AND SAFETY OF TRANSCRANIAL MAGNETIC STIMULATION IN TREATMENT-RESISTANT BIPOLAR DEPRESSION

Background: The aim of the current study is to investigate the efficacy and safety of Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) treatment, a non-invasive brain stimulation technique, on depressive symptoms in treatment-resistant bipolar depression (TRBD). Subjects and methods: The study included 29 patients between the ages of 18-65, with bipolar disorder depressive episode according to DSM-5 and with the decision of non-response to treatment according to the Canadian Mood and Anxiety Treatment Network (CANMAT). Patients were divided into two groups double-blind-randomly, 20 sessions of TMS and 20 sessions of sham TMS were applied crossover. Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS) and TMS Side Effect Questionnaire were applied to the patients before the treatment, at the 2nd week which is the crossover phase, and at the end of the treatment at 4th week. Results: In both groups, the severity of depression was decreased significantly according to HAM-D and BDI scores after the procedure. As well as active stimulation, some positive placebo effects were observed with sham stimulation. But the decreases seen in HAM-D and BDI scores and response to the treatment were higher during the weeks when the groups received active stimulation (respectively p=0.000, p=0.001, p=0.005). At the end of the study, according to HAM-D, 55.7% of the patients showed response to the treatment, 24.13% partial response. According to BDI, 41.37% of the patients showed response to the treatment, and 31.03% partial response. No associations were found between TMS response and sociodemographic - clinical features, or type of the disease (p>0.05). During the study, no serious adverse effects such as seizures or manic / hypomanic switches were observed. Conclusions: The results of our study showed that TMS treatment is an effective and safe treatment for patients with treatmentresistant bipolar depression
