A multi-scale tool for functionalization of polyolefins through radical grafting

    Get PDF
Free radical induced grafting of polymers is an important synthesis strategy to improve the properties of the pristine polymer and to ensure compatibility in blends. In this contribution, a multi-scale modeling tool is presented that enables to describe the grafting kinetics with a detailed description at the molecular, micro- and meso-scale combined with a 1D macro-scale reactor model. The potential of the model is illustrated with polyolefins as polymer substrate, including model validation to lab-scale and industrial scale data. It is highlighted that the model is indispensable to achieve the optimal process conditions for improved process intensification and functionality/molecular control

-- Tomado del Formato de Documento de Grado."In this document, we present the didactic unit for the topic triangles similarity, carried out by group 6 of the Seventh Cohort in the Master's Degree in Mathematical Education at the Universidad de los Andes. A theoretical exploration of the potential of ICAR ATRP for one- and two-pot synthesis of well-defined diblock copolymers

    No full text
Kinetic Monte Carlo simulations are performed to investigate the capability of ICAR ATRP for the synthesis of well-defined poly(isobornyl acrylate-b-styrene) block(-like) copolymers using one-pot semi-batch and two-pot batch procedures. The block copolymer quality is quantified via a block deviation (BD) value. For BD values lower than 0.30, the quality is defined as good and for well-chosen polymerization conditions the formation of homopolymer chains upon addition of the second monomer can be suppressed. A better block quality is obtained when isobornyl acrylate is polymerized first. For lower Cu levels a one-pot semi-batch procedure allows a much faster ATRP and better control over the polymer properties than a two-pot batch procedure
