The use of apps in portable electronic devices has increased as important tool for mathematics teaching children.  Although, at the same time, children’s physical inactivity has increased. This contradiction is reversed through a basic mathematics videogame and its dancing board. To use it, the user has to do physical activity. This opportunity was identified by TRIZ Theory.  The videogame was programmed in Unity 3D™ software (free version). The device was made with free access technology and low costs materials. Before to define the best design, it was tested three different patterns. The videogame contains different difficulty levels according the user knowledge. It also has tools to identify every user performance and help to manage different class groups.

ERK1/2 and p38 MAPKs Are Complementarily Involved in Estradiol 17Ăź-d-Glucuronide-Induced Cholestasis: Crosstalk with cPKC and PI3K

Objective: The endogenous, cholestatic metabolite estradiol 17ß-d-glucuronide (E217G) induces endocytic internalization of the canalicular transporters relevant to bile formation, Bsep and Mrp2. We evaluated here whether MAPKs are involved in this effect. Design: ERK1/2, JNK1/2, and p38 MAPK activation was assessed by the increase in their phosphorylation status. Hepatocanalicular function was evaluated in isolated rat hepatocyte couplets (IRHCs) by quantifying the apical secretion of fluorescent Bsep and Mrp2 substrates, and in isolated, perfused rat livers (IPRLs), using taurocholate and 2,4-dinitrophenyl-S-glutathione, respectively. Protein kinase participation in E217G-induced secretory failure was assessed by co-administering selective inhibitors. Internalization of Bsep/Mrp2 was assessed by confocal microscopy and image analysis. Results: E217G activated all kinds of MAPKs. The PI3K inhibitor wortmannin prevented ERK1/2 activation, whereas the cPKC inhibitor Gö6976 prevented p38 activation, suggesting that ERK1/2 and p38 are downstream of PI3K and cPKC, respectively. The p38 inhibitor SB203580 and the ERK1/2 inhibitor PD98059, but not the JNK1/2 inhibitor SP600125, partially prevented E217G-induced changes in transporter activity and localization in IRHCs. p38 and ERK1/2 co-inhibition resulted in additive protection, suggesting complementary involvement of these MAPKs. In IPRLs, E217G induced endocytosis of canalicular transporters and a rapid and sustained decrease in bile flow and biliary excretion of Bsep/Mrp2 substrates. p38 inhibition prevented this initial decay, and the internalization of Bsep/Mrp2. Contrarily, ERK1/2 inhibition accelerated the recovery of biliary secretion and the canalicular reinsertion of Bsep/Mrp2. Conclusions: cPKC/p38 MAPK and PI3K/ERK1/2 signalling pathways participate complementarily in E217G-induced cholestasis, through internalization and sustained intracellular retention of canalicular transporters, respectively.Fil: Boaglio, Andrea Carolina. Reliability is essential at commercial vehicles development: crucial for brand reputation and to avoid financial losses due to inoperative machinery. Vehicle suspension purpose is absorbing track roughness and ensure a comfortable and safe ride. The damper is an essential component of this system and its support must withstand typical loads, especially impacts, since the efforts are proportional to event velocity. The aim of this work is predict rear damper support life at one durability missions of product’s validation plan: Rough Road. The loads histories are crucial for reliable durability result and were reconstructed from strain measurements at strategic point, optimized to assure correlation between virtual and experimental results

Predicting the outcome of patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage using machine learning techniques

    Get PDF
Background: Outcome prediction for subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) helps guide care and compare global management strategies. Logistic regression models for outcome prediction may be cumbersome to apply in clinical practice. Objective: To use machine learning techniques to build a model of outcome prediction that makes the knowledge discovered from the data explicit and communicable to domain experts. Material and methods: A derivation cohort (n = 441) of nonselected SAH cases was analyzed using different classification algorithms to generate decision trees and decision rules. Algorithms used were C4.5, fast decision tree learner, partial decision trees, repeated incremental pruning to produce error reduction, nearest neighbor with generalization, and ripple down rule learner. Outcome was dichotomized in favorable [Glasgow outcome scale (GOS) = I–II] and poor (GOS = III–V). An independent cohort (n = 193) was used for validation. An exploratory questionnaire was given to potential users (specialist doctors) to gather their opinion on the classifier and its usability in clinical routine. Results: The best classifier was obtained with the C4.5 algorithm. It uses only two attributes [World Federation of Neurological Surgeons (WFNS) and Fisher’s scale] and leads to a simple decision tree. The accuracy of the classifier [area under the ROC curve (AUC) = 0.84; confidence interval (CI) = 0.80–0.88] is similar to that obtained by a logistic regression model (AUC = 0.86; CI = 0.83–0.89) derived from the same data and is considered better fit for clinical use. This work was supported in part by the Spanish Ministries of Science under Grant TRA2007-67374-C02-02 and Health under Grant FIS PI 070152. Get PDF
In the recent years, model predictive control has been consolidated as a design strategy and an attractive alternative for the control of power electronic devices. This paper proposes an active and reactive power control strategy based on predictive control approach applied to grid-connected renewable energy systems. To accomplish this, a three-phase two-level voltage source inverter based topology is used in combination with a simple and efficient fixed-frequency modulation technique. Results based on a MATLAB/Simulink simulation environment are discussed and the most relevant characteristics of the proposed fixed-frequency predictive control approach are highlighted considering the total harmonic distortion as a figure of merit.CONACYT – Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y TecnologíaPROCIENCI

Comparative Analysis for the Presence of IgG Anti-Aquaporin-1 in Patients with NMO-Spectrum Disorders

    Get PDF
Detection of IgG anti-Aquaporin-4 (AQP4) in serum of patients with Neuromyelitis optica syndrome disorders (NMOSD) has improved diagnosis of these processes and differentiation from Multiple sclerosis (MS). Recent findings also claim that a subgroup of patients with NMOSD, serum negative for IgG-anti-AQP4, present antibodies anti-AQP1 instead. Explore the presence of IgG-anti-AQP1 using a previously developed cell-based assay (CBA) highly sensitive to IgG-anti-AQP4. Serum of 205 patients diagnosed as NMOSD (8), multiple sclerosis (94), optic neuritis (39), idiopathic myelitis (29), other idiopathic demyelinating disorders of the central nervous system (9), other neurological diseases (18) and healthy controls (8), were used in a CBA over fixed HEK cells transfected with hAQP1-EGFP or hM23-AQP4-EGFP, treated with Triton X-100 and untreated. ELISA was also performed. Analysis of serum with our CBA indicated absence of anti-AQP1 antibodies, whereas in cells pretreated with detergent, noisy signal made reliable detection impossible. ELISA showed positive results in few serums. The low number of NMOSD serums included in our study reduces its power to conclude the specificity of AQP1 antibodies as new biomarkers of NMOSD. Our study does not sustain detection of anti-AQP1 in serum of NMOSD patients but further experiments are expected.Grants from “La Junta de Andalucía, Consejería de Innovación Ciencia y Empresa” (P08-CTS-03574) and Consejería de Salud (PI0298-2010), and from the “Instituto de Salud Carlos III” (Exp.
