Willkommenskultur in Berlin: A critical discourse analysis of national identity construction in Germany. How is the German public discourse about Willkommenskultur shaped by and a contribution to national identity construction?
Since the summer of 2015, the ambiguous term Willkommenskultur has been part of the increasingly polarized migration debate in Germany. This ambiguous term is used in a variety of different contexts – political, social, historical – and seems to be part of the process of national identity construction. In using Willkommenskultur several German authors contextualized the term within the historical case of the Huguenot refugees re-settling in Brandenburg from 17th century France. This thesis has thus analyzed ways in which Willkommenskultur is shaped by and a contribution to the process of national identity construction, and how this process is related to the case of the Huguenots. The research was conducted through a critical discourse analysis, wherein five German articles were analyzed with regard to Willkommenskultur and the Huguenots of 1685, and a content analysis wherein forty-one articles were analyzed for general trends and indications about the uses and contributions of Willkommenskultur. This complex thesis concludes that Willkommenskultur is used in the contemporary migration debate in order to create a national identity, and the term uses the history of the Huguenots as a reference of how an “in-group” acts
Outcome Analysis and Quality Improvement for Inter-hospital Transfers of Pediatric
Pediatric patients who initially present to a community hospital setting can be adequately cared for the majority of the time, in the emergency department (ED), on the pediatric ward (PEDS), and the post anesthesia care unit (PACU). When a pediatric patient is in need of specialized care or is decompensating and becomes critically ill, initial medical stabilization is required and the identification of a critical care bed and admitting physician are needed in a timely manner. Inter-hospital transfers (IHT) of pediatric patients are frequent occurrences, as more and more areas are consolidating their resources and Pediatric Intensive Care beds are becoming regionalized. When an IHT becomes necessary, there is a period of patient stabilization and transitional care that is required, before the critical care transport team arrives. This study will add to the scarce amount of literature on areas and opportunities for quality improvement and outcome analysis of pediatric patients transferred from a community hospital ED, PEDS or PACU without pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) resources
Communicating Sustainability A qualitative analysis of corporate communication of sustainability in the ICT-sector
Master´s thesis in Social Communication (KOM501)The purpose of this thesis is to gain a richer understanding of how an IT corporation view, value
and communicate sustainability, with regards to stakeholders. This is based upon an increased
focus on sustainability and sustainable development in society. There is a lot of academic
studies concerning the concept of sustainability or organizational sustainability, furthermore
there is extensive research with regards to Green IT and how this can contribute to a sustainable
future. However, this thesis position itself in between, exploring the effects of communicating
sustainability specifically in the IT industry. This study is based upon one medium-sized IT
corporation with Norwegian owners.
In total, 12 interviews were conducted. These were qualitative interviews, performed based
upon a structured/semi-structured method, and further analyzed with thematic analysis. The
study based itself on sustainability theory, stakeholder theory and corporate communication
theory.
The study provide support for sustainability theory. Financial sustainability seemed to be one
of the main drivers. As of now, profit still seems to be the stronger sustainable factor, compared
to people or planet, however the study showed willingness and understanding from informants
and corporation strategy that all dimensions need to be supported for a sustainable future. The
study also showed support for stakeholder theory, however with an increased focus in
communication towards contractual stakeholders, compared to community stakeholders.
The study showed that even though the corporation has increased its focus on sustainability,
several employees, especially those not in the management, had less knowledge about the green
shift and sustainability. This can be an indication that corporate identity and corporate strategy
has not been communicated thoroughl

IMPACT OF ENVIRONMENTAL ANNOUNCEMENTS ON THE FINANCIAL MARKETS OF EUROPEAN CRUDE OIL EXPORTERS AND IMPORTERS
Climate change poses a severe threat to the world as we know it. Over the last decades,
governments and intergovernmental organisations have introduced regulations and policies
to limit greenhouse gas emissions. Several studies have found that announcements of
environmental regulations and policies affect financial markets worldwide. Our thesis
examines whether the main stock market indices of exporters of crude oil are affected
differently than importers by environmental announcements. We consider the Russian
MOEX, the Norwegian OSEBX and the British FTSE 100 as proxies for exporters, while the
German DAX, Spanish IBEX 35 and Italian FTSE MIB represent importers. We employ the event
study methodology to investigate whether indices display significant cumulative abnormal
returns around environmental announcements. In addition, we estimate the same period
volatility using a GJR-GARCH model, where we introduce dummy variables for the event
period. We find significant negative cumulative abnormal returns for the Russian MOEX
around the announcement of the Glasgow climate pact. We also find significant increases in
volatility for both importers and exporters around two events. Overall, our findings do not
indicate that the financial markets of exporters of crude oil behave differently from importers
around environmental announcements
