Dark matter scenarios in a constrained model with Dirac gauginos
We perform the first analysis of Dark Matter scenarios in a constrained model
with Dirac Gauginos. The model under investigation is the Constrained Minimal
Dirac Gaugino Supersymmetric Standard model (CMDGSSM) where the Majorana mass
terms of gauginos vanish. However, -symmetry is broken in the Higgs sector
by an explicit and/or effective -term. This causes a mass splitting
between Dirac states in the fermion sector and the neutralinos, which provide
the dark matter candidate, become pseudo-Dirac states. We discuss two
scenarios: the universal case with all scalar masses unified at the GUT scale,
and the case with non-universal Higgs soft-terms. We identify different regions
in the parameter space which fullfil all constraints from the dark matter
abundance, the limits from SUSY and direct dark matter searches and the Higgs
mass. Most of these points can be tested with the next generation of direct

Hybrid-repair of thoraco-abdominal or juxtarenal aortic aneurysm: what the radiologist should know
Purpose: Endovascular aneurysm repair of the infrarenal or thoracic aorta has been shown to be a less invasive alternative to open surgery. A combined aneurysm of the thoracic and abdominal aorta is complex and challenging; the involvement of renal and/or visceral branches requires new treatment methods. Methods: A hybrid approach is currently an accepted alternative to conventional surgery. Renal and/or visceral revascularisation enables subsequent stent-graft placement into the visceral portion of the aorta. Results: Knowledge of the surgical procedure and a precise assessment of the vascular morphology are crucial for pre-procedural planning and for detection of post-procedural complications. Multi-detector computed tomography angiography (MDCTA) combined with two- and three-dimensional (2D and 3D) rendering is useful for pre-interventional planning and for the detection of post-procedural complications. Three-dimensional rendering allows proper anatomical analyses, influencing interventional strategies and resulting in a better outcome. Conclusions: With the knowledge of procedure-specific MDCTA findings in various vascular conditions, the radiologist and surgeon are able to perform an efficient pre-interventional planning and follow-up examination. Based on our experience with this novel technique of combined open and endovascular aortic aneurysm treatment, this pictorial review illustrates procedure-specific imaging findings, including common and rare complications, with respect to 2D and 3D post-processing technique
Recursive Definitions of Monadic Functions
Using standard domain-theoretic fixed-points, we present an approach for
defining recursive functions that are formulated in monadic style. The method
works both in the simple option monad and the state-exception monad of
Isabelle/HOL's imperative programming extension, which results in a convenient
definition principle for imperative programs, which were previously hard to
define.
For such monadic functions, the recursion equation can always be derived
without preconditions, even if the function is partial. The construction is
easy to automate, and convenient induction principles can be derived

Ultrafast rerouting of light via slow modes in a nanophotonic directional coupler
We demonstrate that two coupled photonic-crystal waveguides can route two subsequently arriving light pulses to different output ports even though the pulses are only 3 ps apart. This rerouting of light is due to an ultrafast shift in the transmittance spectrum triggered by the generation of electrons and holes in the Si base material by a femtosecond laser pulse. The use of slow-light modes allows for a coupler length of only 5.2 μm. Since these modes are not directly involved, the 3 ps dead time is solely determined by the duration of the input pulse rather than its transit time through the device.We acknowledge funding through the EU FP6-FET

High-resolution mass spectrometry to complement monitoring and track emerging chemicals and pollution trends in European water resources
Currently, chemical monitoring based on priority substances fails to consider the majority of known environmental micropollutants not to mention the unexpected and unknown chemicals that may contribute to the toxic risk of complex mixtures present in the environment. Complementing component- and effect-based monitoring with wide-scope target, suspect, and non-target screening (NTS) based on high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) data is recommended to support environmental impact and risk assessment. This will allow for detection of newly emerging compounds and transformation products, retrospective monitoring efforts, and the identification of possible drivers of toxicity by correlation with effects or modelling of expected effects for future and abatement scenarios. HRMS is becoming increasingly available in many laboratories. Thus, the time is right to establish and harmonize screening methods, train staff, and record HRMS data for samples from regular monitoring events and surveys. This will strongly enhance the value of chemical monitoring data for evaluating complex chemical pollution problems, at limited additional costs. Collaboration and data exchange on a European-to-global scale is essential to maximize the benefit of chemical screening. Freely accessible data platforms, inter-laboratory trials, and the involvement of international partners and networks are recommended
Application-inspired additive manufacturing of Raman optics
While additive manufacturing (AM) enables the production of versatile optical components, the limited knowledge of manufacturing processes makes the development of accurate simulation tools and evaluation criteria challenging. In this work, we present a novel approach to address the specific challenges in the AM of optics by designing and fabricating freeform probe lenses for Raman Spectroscopy (RS) using the Multi-Jet Modeling (MJM) printing process. We successfully integrate the lenses into an RS system and demonstrate their performance in detecting melamine with a maximum signal-to-noise ratio of 164[Formula presented]. We outline the capabilities and limitations of the AM process and adapt simulations to reveal the potential impact of manufacturing tolerances and diffraction effects on layered optical components. Based on our results, we highlight the potential to develop novel design standards for the AM of optics, providing a platform for further exploration and investigation
Dark Matter Disc Enhanced Neutrino Fluxes from the Sun and Earth
As disc galaxies form in a hierarchical cosmology, massive merging satellites
are preferentially dragged towards the disc plane. The material accreted from
these satellites forms a dark matter disc that contributes 0.25 - 1.5 times the
non-rotating halo density at the solar position. Here, we show the importance
of the dark disc for indirect dark matter detection in neutrino telescopes.
Previous predictions of the neutrino flux from WIMP annihilation in the Earth
and the Sun have assumed that Galactic dark matter is spherically distributed
with a Gaussian velocity distribution, the standard halo model. Although the
dark disc has a local density comparable to the dark halo, its higher phase
space density at low velocities greatly enhances capture rates in the Sun and
Earth. For typical dark disc properties, the resulting muon flux from the Earth
is increased by three orders of magnitude over the SHM, while for the Sun the
increase is an order of magnitude. This significantly increases the sensitivity
of neutrino telescopes to fix or constrain parameters in WIMP models. The flux
from the Earth is extremely sensitive to the detailed properties of the dark
disc, while the flux from the Sun is more robust. The enhancement of the muon
flux from the dark disc puts the search for WIMP annihilation in the Earth on
the same level as the Sun for WIMP masses < 100 GeV.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, added a short paragraph to the discussion

Recent Progress in the Golem Project
We report on the current status of the Golem project which aims at the
construction of a general one-loop evaluator for matrix elements. We construct
the one-loop matrix elements from Feynman diagrams in a highly automated way
and provide a library for the reduction and numerically stable evaluation of
the tensor integrals involved in this approach. Furthermore, we present

C/EBP beta-LIP induces cancer-type metabolic reprogramming by regulating the let-7/LIN28B circuit in mice
The transcription factors LAP1, LAP2 and LIP are derived from the Cebpb-mRNA through the use of alternative start codons. High LIP expression has been associated with human cancer and increased cancer incidence in mice. However, how LIP contributes to cellular transformation is poorly understood. Here we present that LIP induces aerobic glycolysis and mitochondrial respiration reminiscent of cancer metabolism. We show that LIP-induced metabolic programming is dependent on the RNA-binding protein LIN28B, a translational regulator of glycolytic and mitochondrial enzymes with known oncogenic function. LIP activates LIN28B through repression of the let-7 microRNA family that targets the Lin28b-mRNA. Transgenic mice overexpressing LIP have reduced levels of let-7 and increased LIN28B expression, which is associated with metabolic reprogramming as shown in primary bone marrow cells, and with hyperplasia in the skin. This study establishes LIP as an inducer of cancer-type metabolic reprogramming and as a regulator of the let-7/LIN28B regulatory circuit
