Multiderivative methods for linear second order boundary value prob1ems

    Get PDF
Second, fourth and sixth order methods are developed and analysed for the numerical solution of linear second order boundary value problems. The methods are developed by replacing the exponential terms in a three—point recurrence relation by Padé approximants. The methods are tested on a problem from the literatur

An Indian Ocean record for a porcellanid crab, Raphidopus ciliatus Stimpson, 1958

    Get PDF
Several specimens of a porcellanid crab Raphidopus ciliatus are being reported for the first time from the northern Arabian Sea, extending the range of the species into the Indian Ocean. Specimens were found in by-catches landing at fish harbour, four specimens were recovered from stomachs of noncommercial fish, Batrachus grunniens. Salient features of the species are described. Individual variations specially noted

    Prescriptive Process Analytics using Counterfacts

    Get PDF
openIn the age of technology integration and big data, the capability to extract value from abundant data has become paramount. Business Process Management (BPM), a field focused on the management of complex business processes, gives rise to a vast amount of event data. The subfield of “process mining” harnesses this data, acting as a conduit between BPM and data mining. Prescriptive analytics are a technique that uses data science techniques to provide actionable steps to improve a running process instance. This thesis delves into the realm of prescriptive process analytics, spotlighting the use of counterfactuals. Building upon established predictive frameworks, it seeks to develop a domain-agnostic prescriptive analysis mechanism. The primary aim is to generate recommendations that not only suggest the next-best activity, but also pinpoint the optimal resource to undertake it, all in a bid to optimize a predefined Key Performance Indicator (KPI). By comparing the efficacy of our proposed framework with existing methodologies on real-world datasets, we aim to underscore the significance and potential of our approach. The research unfolds through multiple chapters that elucidate foundational principles, state-of-the-art methods, our unique framework, and its evaluation through two distinct case studies. The hope is to chart a course for future endeavors in the domain, cementing the importance of prescriptive process analytics and its transformative impact on the business landscape

Distribution and abundance of cirripede larvae (Cirripedia: Thoracica) in the northern Arabian Sea

Cirripede larvae obtained in the zooplankton samples of the North Arabian Sea Ecological and Environmental Research (NASEER) cruise I (January, 1992) have been studied for their distribution and abundance. They were collected in the northern Arabian Sea waters (22°51'N to 24°58'N, 60°05'E to 65°59'E). Thirty- two samples were taken at 18 stations. The maximum number of larvae were collected from a station near Indus cone (Sta. 8), whereas an off shore station (Sta. 37) and one near the Makran coast (Sta. 60) had poor representation. Regular coastal collections from Manora Channel (24°48'N, 66°59'E), during the study period of one year (1994), have been also included to supplement the NASEER samples. Only one naupliar stage (VI) and a cyprid stage were identified. Relative abundance in day and night samples were also studied

Recovery of a leucosid crab Nursia abbreviata Bell, 1855 from Arabian Sea fish

    Get PDF
On two occasions Nursia abbreviata Bell, 1855 has been recovered from the stomachs of Batrochus grunniens (Linnaeus, 1758) caught with commercial fish. Nursia abbreviata has been previously recorded from Karachi by Alcock (1896). The present specimens afford the first subsequent record of the species from the region, and are represented by only two males recovered from fish stomachs. The only other species of the genus from Pakistan is N. Rubifera Muller, 1866 which is common in shore collections (Tirmizi and Kazmi, 1988). A brief description of the present material is given below

    Exploring and Assessing Intercultural Competence

The Federation of The Experiment in International Living (FEIL) has now completed its first international research effort – a one and a half year project designed to explore and assess the impact of intercultural experiences provided through service projects conducted as part of the Federation’s Volunteers in International Partnerships program. This research project, titled Exploring and Assessing Intercultural Competence, involved two sending and one receiving Member Organizations: Great Britain, Switzerland, and Ecuador. The project was made possible through a funding grant obtained from the Center for Social Development of the Global Service Institute at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri
