Empirical Validation of MoDe4SLA; Approach for Managing Service Compositions

    Get PDF
For companies managing complex Web service compositions, challenges arise which go far beyond simple bilateral contract monitoring. For example, it is not only important to determine whether or not a component (i.e., Web service) in a composition is performing properly, but also to understand what the impact of its performance is on the overall service composition. To tackle this challenge, in previous work we developed MoDe4SLA which allows managing and monitoring dependencies between services in a composition. This paper empirically validates MoDe4SLA through an extensive and interactive experiment among 34 participants

    Entanglement preparation using symmetric multiports

We investigate the entanglement produced by a multi-path interferometer that is composed of two symmetric multiports, with phase shifts applied to the output of the first multiport. Particular attention is paid to the case when we have a single photon entering the interferometer. For this situation we derive a simple condition that characterize the types of entanglement that one can generate. We then show how one can use the results from the single photon case to determine what kinds of multi-photon entangled states one can prepare using the interferometer.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, accepted for publication in European Journal of Physics

    Entanglement in helium

Using a configuration-interaction variational method, we accurately compute the reduced, single-electron von Neumann entropy for several low-energy, singlet and triplet eigenstates of helium atom. We estimate the amount of electron-electron orbital entanglement for such eigenstates and show that it decays with energy.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures, added references and discussio

Quantum statistical synchronization of non-interacting particles

A full treatment for the scattering of an arbitrary number of bosons through a Bell multiport beam splitter is presented that includes all possible output arrangements. Due to exchange symmetry, the event statistics differs dramatically from the classical case in which the realization probabilities are given by combinatorics. A law for the suppression of output configurations is derived and shown to apply for the majority of all possible arrangements. Such multiparticle interference effects dominate at the level of single transition amplitudes, while a generic bosonic signature can be observed when the average number of occupied ports or the typical number of particles per port is considered. The results allow to classify in a common approach several recent experiments and theoretical studies and disclose many accessible quantum statistical effects involving many particles.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figure
