This report is intended as a briefing paper on Recirculating Aquaculture Systems with emphasis on the monitoring of water quality parameters relating to the freshwater culture of the Arctic charr Salvelinus alpinus
Plans for laser spectroscopy of trapped cold hydrogen-like HCI
Laser spectroscopy studies are being prepared to measure the 1s ground state
hyperfine splitting in trapped cold highly charged ions. The purpose of such
experiments is to test quantum electrodynamics in the strong electric field
regime. These experiments form part of the HITRAP project at GSI. A brief
review of the planned experiments is presented.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication (NIMB

Hierarchical Gaussian process mixtures for regression
As a result of their good performance in practice and their desirable analytical properties, Gaussian process regression models are becoming increasingly of interest in statistics, engineering and other fields. However, two major problems arise when the model is applied to a large data-set with repeated measurements. One stems from the systematic heterogeneity among the different replications, and the other is the requirement to invert a covariance matrix which is involved in the implementation of the model. The dimension of this matrix equals the sample size of the training data-set. In this paper, a Gaussian process mixture model for regression is proposed for dealing with the above two problems, and a hybrid Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithm is used for its implementation. Application to a real data-set is reported
A Matrix Model for AdS2
A matrix quantum mechanics with potential and an SL(2,R)
conformal symmetry is conjectured to be dual to two-dimensional type 0A string
theory on AdS with units of RR flux.Comment: 12 page

Relations between (κ, τ)-regular sets and star complements
Let G be a finite graph with an eigenvalue μ of multiplicity m. A set X of m vertices in G is called a star set for μ in G if μ is not an eigenvalue of the star complement G\X which is the subgraph of G induced by vertices not in X. A vertex subset of a graph
is (k ,t)-regular if it induces a k -regular subgraph and every vertex not in the subset has t neighbors in it. We investigate the graphs having a (k,t)-regular set which induces a star complement for some eigenvalue. A survey of known results is provided and new properties for these graphs are deduced. Several particular graphs where these properties stand out are presented as examples
Ni-Cr textured substrates with reduced ferromagnetism for coated conductor applications
A series of biaxially textured Ni(1-x)Cr(x) materials, with compositions x =
0, 7, 9, 11, and 13 at % Cr, have been studied for use as substrate materials
in coated conductor applications with high temperature superconductors. The
magnetic properties were investigated, including the hysteretic loss in a Ni-7
at % Cr sample that was controllably deformed; for comparison, the loss was
also measured in a similarly deformed pure Ni substrate. Complementary X-ray
diffraction studies show that thermo-mechanical processing produces nearly
complete {100} cube texturing, as desired for applications.Comment: PDF only; 19 pp., incl 10 figure
Eclipsing Binaries in Open Clusters
Detached eclipsing binaries are very useful objects for calibrating
theoretical stellar models and checking their predictions. Detached eclipsing
binaries in open clusters are particularly important because of the additional
constraints on their age and chemical composition from their membership of the
cluster. I compile a list containing absolute parameters of well-studied
eclipsing binaries in open clusters, and present new observational data on the
B-type systems V1481 Cyg and V2263 Cyg which are members of the young open
cluster NGC 7128.Comment: 4 pages, 2 colour figures. Poster presentation for IAUS 240 (Binary
