    Use of the Enterotest Duodenal Capsule in the Diagnosis of Giardiasis

    The Enterotest was compared with stool examination and jejunal aspirate obtained at jejunal biopsy from the Crosby capsule, as a method for finding Giardia lamblia. Twentysix patients under investigation for malabsorption, as a cause of megaloblastic anaemia, were studied. Giardia lamblia was found on 6 occasions in 4 patients. The Enterotest was positive on 5 of 6 occasions, the Crosby capsule on 4 of 7, the first stool on 2 occasions, the second stool twice, and the remaining 2 had 3 negative stools. The Enterotest is a convenient and safe way of looking for Giardia lamblia and gave more positives than the Crosby capsule and stool examinations

    Asymmetric Adjustment In The Effects Of Monetary Policy On Output: Evidence In The USA And Canada Using A Cointegration Analysis

    Using a set of cointegration and error correction models with Threshold Autoregressive (TAR) or Momentum Threshold Autoregressive (MTAR) asymmetric adjustment, we investigate whether the effects of monetary policy on output in the USA and Canada are asymmetric or not. Forty years of quarterly data on output, money supply, price of oil and interest rate for the USA and Canada obtained from the International Monetary Funds International Financial Statistics CD-ROM were used for the different tests. Empirical results show that the effects of monetary policy on output are asymmetric in both countries. Furthermore, the impulse response functions indicate that the results are consistent with a dynamic asymmetry in the behavior of money supply movements in both countries

    Development and Interim Evaluation of WeCare Indiana: a Community-tailored Text Messaging Intervention to Reduce Infant Mortality in East Central Indiana

    poster abstractBackground: Text messaging is an effective way to distribute health information and reduce risky health behaviors.1,2 In 2014, the East Central Indiana Fetal and Infant Mortality Program of the Delaware County Health Department developed a community-based text messaging intervention program called “WeCare Indiana” as an innovative approach to promote positive pregnancy outcomes. This abstract reports the interim evaluation of health promotional text messages for prenatal clients. Methods: The program was developed using a community-collaborative model. Over 200 prenatal and infant health text messages were reviewed and evaluated by community representatives. Messages included information regarding fetal and infant development, health promotion, and risk prevention strategies with links to local resources. Prenatal messages were then reviewed by prenatal clients for their relevance, clarity, and likelihood to change healthrelated behavior during pregnancy. The program was promoted locally and currently has 98 enrollees. A 4-month interim program evaluation was developed to assess program awareness, reasons for enrolling or not enrolling, and overall satisfaction with text message content. A convenience sample of prenatal clients at a Federally Qualified Health Center participated in the evaluation process. Results: Of the 43 prenatal clients that participated, 10 (23%) clients had heard about the health messaging service. Of those participants, 6 (60%) had chosen to enroll in the program. Enrollees reported hearing about the program through word of mouth, posters, fliers, health care providers, and social media. Reasons given for not enrolling included lack of awareness or interest, technical difficulties, and procrastination. All enrollees reported that the messages were helpful. Conclusions: An effort to reduce fetal and infant mortality in East Central Indiana led to the development and evaluation of community-tailored health messages. The evaluation results will be used to encourage client awareness and enrollment in the program

The new constant is involved in this equation.     Lattice Point Generating Functions and Symmetric Cones

    We show that a recent identity of Beck-Gessel-Lee-Savage on the generating function of symmetrically contrained compositions of integers generalizes naturally to a family of convex polyhedral cones that are invariant under the action of a finite reflection group. We obtain general expressions for the multivariate generating functions of such cones, and work out the specific cases of a symmetry group of type A (previously known) and types B and D (new). We obtain several applications of the special cases in type B, including identities involving permutation statistics and lecture hall partitions.Comment: 19 page

    The presence of GC-AG introns in Neurospora crassa and other euascomycetes determined from analyses of complete genomes: implications for automated gene prediction

    AbstractA combination of experimental and computational approaches was employed to identify introns with noncanonical GC-AG splice sites (GC-AG introns) within euascomycete genomes. Evaluation of 2335 cDNA-confirmed introns from Neurospora crassa revealed 27 such introns (1.2%). A similar frequency (1.0%) of GC-AG introns was identified in Fusarium graminearum, in which 3 of 292 cDNA-confirmed introns contained GC-AG splice sites. Computational analyses of the N. crassa genome using a GC-AG intron consensus sequence identified an additional 20 probable GC-AG introns in this fungus. For 8 of the 47 GC-AG introns identified in N. crassa a GC donor site is also present in a homolog from Magnaporthe grisea, F. graminearum, or Aspergillus nidulans. In most cases, however, homologs in these fungi contain a GT-AG intron or no intron at the corresponding position. These findings have important implications for fungal genome annotation, as the automated annotations of euascomycete genomes incorrectly identified intron boundaries for all of the confirmed and probable GC-AG introns reported here

    A dynamical chiral bag model

    We study a dynamical chiral bag model, in which massless fermions are confined within an impenetrable but movable bag coupled to meson fields. The self-consistent motion of the bag is obtained by solving the equations of motion exactly assuming spherical symmetry. When the bag interacts with an external meson wave we find three different kinds of resonances: {\it fermionic}, {\it geometric}, and σ\sigma-resonances.
