    Deaf Arkansan Center for Cultivating Employability and Self-Sufficiency (Deaf ACCESS) is a statewide center providing professional services for severely disabled deaf individuals. The center\u27s core objectives are to focus on obstacles preventing successful independent living. Limited academic achievement, poor socialization skills, lack of information regarding everyday life skills, stereotyped vocational planning and interpersonal development are all commonly mentioned problems. During the early years. Deaf ACCESS has been addressing problems of independent living, community activities, interpreting and counseling for clients who are enrolled in the program. One of the center\u27s goal is to teach client’s parenting skills and educate them on how to facilitate their child\u27s development

    Culturally Diverse Teaching Competence Of Teachers As Perceived By Students At An International University In Thailand

    As higher education institutions deal with the increase of international students, teachers areincreasingly concerned with the potential challenges in dealing with teaching and learning ina culturally diverse classroom. The purpose of this study is to examine the level of culturallydiverse teaching competence of teachers in international higher education institutions. Thecultural diverse teaching competence is measured based on the five dimensions typology ofmulticultural education. They are awareness, relationship, instruction, respect, and prejudice.A cross-sectional survey design was employed with a sample of 241 participants was takenfrom a university located in Thailand. The results of the students thought that teachers weremost competent at building respect for diversity and that teachers were least competent atgeneral cultural awareness and combating prejudice. In addition, the majority of studentscome from single cultural and become more multicultural as they progress through school.Lastly, there were differences in cultural competence when comparisons were made byfaculty

    Engaging Patients with Heart Failure into the Design of Health System Interventions: Impact on Research Methods

    Purpose: To engage patients with heart failure (HF) to assess if changes are needed in a research study design, methods and outcomes when transferring interventions used in urban/community hospitals to rural hospital settings. Design: A qualitative structured interview was conducted. Method: Eight patients from two rural hospitals participated in an interview prior to discharge. Results: Patients validated the study design, measures and outcomes, but identified one area that should be added to the study protocol, symptom experience. Conclusion: Patient interviews validated that the intervention, methods and outcomes were important, but modifications to the study protocol resulted. Patient engagement in the conceptualization of patient centered outcome research is essential to guide the investigator approach to studies
