    E-Payment Acceptance Among German Millennials: Perception and Demographic Background

    During the last twenty years, the growth of the internet and its ability to facilitate e-commerce transactions has had a profound impact on the way business is done by both corporations and individuals (Herhausen et al., 2015; Jeffus et al., 2017). The unprecedented growth of e-commerce has driven the creation of new payment systems to transfer funds electronically from person-to-person or person-to-business (Teoh et al., 2013; Sumanjeet, 2009). The intent of this research is to explore the factors surrounding e-payment use in specific geographical regions to provide a better understanding of that regions e-payment behaviors. This research centers on German millennials, how they value e-payment, and what factors influence their acceptance of electronic funds transfer technology. To reach this goal, a survey was conducted with German millennials exploring what behavior affects their usage of e-payment systems. The results of this survey can provide insights to understand attitudes and behaviors of young generations in their e-payment.     Role of C in MgC_xNi_3 investigated from first principles

    The influence of vacancies in the CC sub-lattice of MgCNi3MgCNi_{3}, on its structural, electronic and magnetic properties are studied by means of the density-functional based Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker Green's function method formulated in the atomic sphere approximation. Disorder is taken into account by means of coherent-potential approximation. Characterizations representing the change in the lattice properties include the variation in the equilibrium lattice constants, bulk modulus and pressure derivative of the bulk modulus, and that of electronic structure include the changes in the, total, partial and k\mathbf{k}-resolved density of states. The incipient magnetic properties are studied by means of fixed-spin moment method of alloy theory, together in conjunction with the phenomenological Ginzburg-Landau equation for magnetic phase transition. The first-principles calculations reveal that due to the breaking of the CC-NiNi bonds, some of the NiNi 3d states, which were lowered in energy due to strong hybridization, are transfered back to higher energies thereby increasing the itinerant character in the material. The Bloch spectral densities evaluated at the high symmetry points however reveal that the charge redistribution is not uniform over the cubic Brillouin zone, as new states are seen to be created at the Γ\Gamma point, while a shift in the states on the energy scale are seen at other high symmetry points

    E-Type Delayed Fluorescence of a Phosphine-Supported Cu_2(μ-NAr_2)_2 Diamond Core: Harvesting Singlet and Triplet Excitons in OLEDs

    A highly emissive bis(phosphine)diarylamido dinuclear copper(I) complex (quantum yield = 57%) was shown to exhibit E-type delayed fluorescence by variable temperature emission spectroscopy and photoluminescence decay measurement of doped vapor-deposited films. The lowest energy singlet and triplet excited states were assigned as charge transfer states on the basis of theoretical calculations and the small observed S_1−T_1 energy gap. Vapor-deposited OLEDs doped with the complex in the emissive layer gave a maximum external quantum efficiency of 16.1%, demonstrating that triplet excitons can be harvested very efficiently through the delayed fluorescence channel. The function of the emissive dopant in OLEDs was further probed by several physical methods, including electrically detected EPR, cyclic voltammetry, and photoluminescence in the presence of applied current

    Prosthodontic perspective of laser application: A review

    Background: A laser works primarily through stimulated emission which is responsible for the biological effects produced by the lasers. With the development of the ruby laser by Maiman in 1960, various studies on applications of lasers in dentistry have been conducted. Various wavelengths of dental lasers have been discovered so far but not all of them are used in prosthetic rehabilitation. Advent of diff erent laser systems has a considerable spectrum of applications in removable prosthodontics and fixed prosthodontics. Aim: When compared to traditional methods, laser treatments are less invasive and painful. Various studies have documented the capacity of laser wavelength and laser parameters used in prosthetic dentistry. Moreover, it is important to study the diff erent reactions; they can produce on the soft and hard tissues. Therefore, proper knowledge of properties of lasers and its mode of action are also important for its advantageous use. The aim of this article is to debrief the application of lasers in a prosthodontic perspective. Conclusion: The knowledge and ideas of pioneers in the field of laser are being developed and expanded into clinical practice that can enhance the quality of dental care and make the patient comfortable. The unique features and vast potential of dental lasers allow the overall success rate of any procedures. Thus, lasers have become an inexorable clinical tool in a dental armamentarium. Despite the benefits, laser energy also poses some risks. Hence, the clinician must understand the principles of lasers to take full advantage of its benefits and to provide safe and effective treatment. Clinical Significance: Recently, computer-aided design and rapid prototyping technology, surface treatment of base metal alloys, and study of occlusion in complete dentures using three-dimensional laser scanner have been developed. Thus, laser seems to be very helpful in reducing the complexity and thus provides a better platform and easier accomplishment of the task

    First Science Observations with SOFIA/FORCAST: Properties of Intermediate-Luminosity Protostars and Circumstellar Disks in OMC-2

    We examine eight young stellar objects in the OMC-2 star forming region based on observations from the SOFIA/FORCAST early science phase, the Spitzer Space Telescope, the Herschel Space Observatory, 2MASS, APEX, and other results in the literature. We show the spectral energy distributions of these objects from near-infrared to millimeter wavelengths, and compare the SEDs with those of sheet collapse models of protostars and circumstellar disks. Four of the objects can be modelled as protostars with infalling envelopes, two as young stars surrounded by disks, and the remaining two objects have double-peaked SEDs. We model the double-peaked sources as binaries containing a young star with a disk and a protostar. The six most luminous sources are found in a dense group within a 0.15 x 0.25 pc region; these sources have luminosities ranging from 300 L_sun to 20 L_sun. The most embedded source (OMC-2 FIR 4) can be fit by a class 0 protostar model having a luminosity of ~50 L_sun and mass infall rate of ~10^-4 solar masses per year.Comment: Accepted by ApJ Letter

    Spitzer/IRAC Limits to Planetary Companions of Fomalhaut and epsilon Eridani

    Fomalhaut and epsilon Eridani are two young, nearby stars that possess extended debris disks whose structures suggest the presence of perturbing planetary objects. With its high sensitivity and stable point spread function, Spitzer/IRAC is uniquely capable of detecting cool, Jupiter-like planetary companions whose peak emission is predicted to occur near 4.5 um. We report on deep IRAC imaging of these two stars, taken at 3.6 and 4.5 um using subarray mode and in all four channels in wider-field full array mode. Observations acquired at two different telescope roll angles allowed faint surrounding objects to be separated from the stellar diffraction pattern. No companion candidates were detected at the reported position of Fomalhaut b with 3 sigma model-dependent mass upper limits of 3 MJ (for an age of 200 Myr). Around epsilon Eridani we instead set a limit of 4 and <1 MJ (1 Gyr model age) at the inner and outer edge of the sub-millimeter debris ring, respectively. These results are consistent with non-detections in recent near-infrared imaging searches, and set the strongest limits to date on the presence of planets outside epsilon Eridani sub-millimeter ring.Comment: Accepted by The Astrophysical Journal.     The complete genome of klassevirus – a novel picornavirus in pediatric stool

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Diarrhea kills 2 million children worldwide each year, yet an etiological agent is not found in approximately 30–50% of cases. Picornaviral genera such as enterovirus, kobuvirus, cosavirus, parechovirus, hepatovirus, teschovirus, and cardiovirus have all been found in human and animal diarrhea. Modern technologies, especially deep sequencing, allow rapid, high-throughput screening of clinical samples such as stool for new infectious agents associated with human disease.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>A pool of 141 pediatric gastroenteritis samples that were previously found to be negative for known diarrheal viruses was subjected to pyrosequencing. From a total of 937,935 sequence reads, a collection of 849 reads distantly related to Aichi virus were assembled and found to comprise 75% of a novel picornavirus genome. The complete genome was subsequently cloned and found to share 52.3% nucleotide pairwise identity and 38.9% amino acid identity to Aichi virus. The low level of sequence identity suggests a novel picornavirus genus which we have designated klassevirus. Blinded screening of 751 stool specimens from both symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals revealed a second positive case of klassevirus infection, which was subsequently found to be from the index case's 11-month old twin.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>We report the discovery of human klassevirus 1, a member of a novel picornavirus genus, in stool from two infants from Northern California. Further characterization and epidemiological studies will be required to establish whether klasseviruses are significant causes of human infection.</p

    Cloning and expression of Geotrichum candidum lipase II gene in yeast. Probing of the enzyme active site by site-directed mutagenesis.

    The three-dimensional structure of lipase II of Geotrichum candidum strain ATCC34614 (GCL II) has provided insights with respect to the nature of the catalytic machinery of lipases. To support these structural observations, we have carried out an analysis of GCL II by mutagenesis. The gene encoding lipase II of Geotrichum candidum strain ATCC34614 (GCL II) was amplified using the polymerase chain reaction, cloned, and sequenced. The intronless lipase gene was expressed and secreted from Saccharomyces cerevisiae at approximately 5 mg/liter of culture. Recombinant GCL II was purified by immunoaffinity chromatography and characterized using a combination of substrates and independent analytical methods. The recombinant enzyme and the enzyme isolated from its natural source have comparable specific activities against triolein of about 1000 mumol of oleic acid released/min/mg of protein. The putative catalytic triad Ser217-His463-Glu354 was probed by site-directed mutagenesis. The substitution of Ser217 by either Cys or Thr and of His463 by Ala led to a complete elimination of the activity against both triolein and tributyrin. Substitution of Glu354 by either Ser, Ala or Gln renders the enzyme inactive and also perturbs the enzyme stability. However, the enzyme with the conservative replacement Glu354 Asp is stable and displays only a small decrease of triolein activity but a 10-fold decrease in activity against tributyrin. There was no appreciable difference in esterase activity between the native, recombinant wild type, and Glu354 Asp mutant. These results confirm that the triad formed by Ser217-Glu354-His463 is essential for catalytic activity. They also show that the active site of GCL II is more tolerant to a conservative change of the carboxylic side chain within the triad than are other hydrolases with similar catalytic triads
