Singing From Stones: Physiovocality and Gardzienice's Theatre of Musicality

This is the author accepted manuscript. The final version is available from OUP via the DOI in this record.Wlodzimierz Staniewski, director of the Polish Centre for Theatre Practices Gardzienice, considers directing as a praxis pertaining to the field of musical composition. His pieces have been theorised as either “ethno-oratoria” or “village operas,” while the pedagogy developed by the group is a territory for the exploration of the tensions between the physical and the vocal. Building on my recent fieldwork with the company, this chapter problematizes the separation of vocality and choreographic/movement practices in performer training and uses Gardzienice’s example as a case study in physiovocality. Meanwhile, the core principles of Staniewski’s work, namely mutuality, musicality and chorality, are analyzed as points of departure from music theaters towards a theater of musicality

The revocalization of logos? Thinking, doing and disseminating voice

PublishedArticleThis is the author accepted manuscript. The final version is available from Intellect via the DOI in this record. As a specific object of interest for philosophy, the human voice is grasped within a system of signification that subordinates speech to the concept. It is in the traditional dualism between the vocal/aural and the conceptual/seen that Cavarero postulates the de-vocalization of logos, the dichotomy between embodied phonation and critical enquiry. Her remarks invite further probing of the pedagogy and creative praxis of voice: how do we conceptualize voicing? How does voice emerge from and reflect back to its discursive domains? How can we bridge the chasm between the ontology and epistemology of voice? How do we think, do and disseminate voice? In reflecting on these concerns, our overall aspiration is to propose a new paradigm for practice as research (PaR) education in Voice Studies

Emerging pollutants are thought to be responsible for the most significant share of environmental, human health and economic risk. Although the universe of chemical pollutants is enormous, we only monitor and have studied a minor fraction. The study of the fate of the emerging pollutants and their transformation products in wastewater-treatment plants (WWTP) is of paramount importance, since it can provide valuable information on the human consumption of various drugs. Sewage epidiomiology is the new field that was develloped for the estimation of illicit drug use based on measurements of urinary excreted illicit drugs and their metabolites in untreated wastewater. Within this approach, human metabolic excretion products resulting from drug consumption are rapidly collected and pooled by the sewage systems, providing valuable evidence of the amount and type of drug consumed by a population. The main objective of this research is the contribution to the current knowledge on the actual burden of micropollutants on the environment and on the effect they have on the human health

    Globalization and International entrepreneurship

Despite its specific destabilizing effects, the real dimensions of globalization do not justify a general alarm. Although technology revolution, "knowledge society", and deregulation trend bring uncertainty and risks, there is not a real global market yet, abolishing the national policy field and exposing firms, social groups and states to the threat of the global speculative capital. Objective difficulties restrict the irrepressible development of globalization while, concerning firms, the dangers hanging over the big multinational firms weaned from their national base, explain the absence of a generalized trend for their conversion to supranational firms. However, the ineluctable character of globalization and the ensuing competitive landscape, force firms to permanently adjust their strategy, structure and processes and often to internationalize in order to survive and sustain their competitive advantage. Lastly, prerequisites for successful internationalization are examined, especially for mall and middle sized enterprises which, far from being in rivalry with the multinational firms, they do well to develop complementary relationships and mutually profitable synergistic links with them.peer-reviewe

‘The voice is the guide to the experience as well as the experience itself’: An interview with non zero one

    Get PDF
This is the author accepted manuscript. The final version is available from the publisher via the DOI in this record.Since 2009, non zero one – a London-based collective of artists with a background and interest in theatre but working across media and performance disciplines – has devised a series of unexpected, challenging but also light-hearted and inviting experiences of immersion. Whilst embracing a variety of techniques and contemporary media, one of the key features of the company’s work is the exploration of audience interaction through the use of headphones, typically in promenade and/or site-specific performance contexts. Following a first section that questions the role of voice in (theatrical) sonic immersion, the text unfolds as a dialogue between practitioner-scholar Konstantinos Thomaidis and non zero one artist and theatre director Sarah Butcher. The interview lends an attentive ear to the role of voice in the company’s work, from pre-recorded instruction to live audio interaction

Cementoossifying Fibroma of the Maxilla: a Case Report

    Get PDF
Cemento-osificirajući fibrom gornje čeljusti nije čest tumor. Među promjene s fibroznim i koštanim komponentama ubrajaju se fibrozna displazija (FD), osificirajući fibrom (OF), cemento-osificirajući fibrom (COF) i cementirajući fibrom (CF). Diferencijalnodijagnostički, u obzir su dolazili fibrozna displazija, osteoidni osteom, osteoblastom, kronični sklerozirajući osteomijelitis, ameloblastom, planocelularni karcinom maksilarnoga sinusa, kalcificirajući epitelni odontogeni tumor (Pindborgov tumor) i kalcificirajuća odontogena cista (Gorlinova cista). Cementoossifying fibroma of the maxilla is an uncommon tumor. Lesions with fibrous and osseous components include fibrous dysplasia (FD), ossifying fibroma (OF), cementoossifying fibroma (COF) and cementifying fibroma (CF). Fibro-osseous lesions other than FD seem to arise from the periodontal membrane. We present a clinical case of a young woman referred for evaluation of a mass in the right cheek. The mass had first appeared 4 years ago and was growing larger inwards. She was treated with surgical resection via a Weber-Fergusson approach. The physical examination revealed a maxillary enlargement and an inreaoral lesion which had almost effaced the jugogingival groove. The teeth were moveable and displaced. Imaging studies demonstrated a soft tissue mass in the superior right maxilla which invaded the right maxillary sinus. The differential diagnosis included fibrous dysplasia, osteoid osteoma, osteoblastoma, chronic sclerosing osteomyelitis, maeloblastoma, squamous cell carcinoma of the maxillary sinus, calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor (Pindborg tumor) and calcifying odontogenic cyst (Gorlin cyst). Histology established a cementoossifying fibroma. In our case of a cementoossifying fibroma, the differential diagnosis based on clinical manifestations and conventional radiographic studies was controversial. Histologic interpretation was critical, and led to correct treatment
