Open source systems for libraries have improved significantly to gain the confidence of librarians. The main focus of the paper is to describe the selection process and criteria that led to the implementation of Koha the first open source Integrated Library Management System at the AeU Library. A study was made based on the set criteria used to compare and contrast with the more popular propriety library management systems. The paper presents the findings of the study which led to the selection of Koha, and a brief introduction to features of open source systems for libraries. The reasoning and conditions for accepting Koha are discussed. A brief account of the implementation process and related experience of the open source ILMS are given. AeU library implemented the various modules of the system: cataloging, online public access (OPAC), circulation, patron management and acquisitions. The expanding influence and acceptance of OSS in libraries is here to stay. Malaysian libraries may need to look into the credible options and benefits of utilizing open source systems and harness this development in ILS

The dynamic effect of macroeconomic factors on housing prices: Evidence from South Africa

    Get PDF
This study examines the dynamic short- and long-run causal relationship between South African real house prices and macroeconomic fundamentals (gross domestic product, mortgage rate, exchange rate-USDZAR, affordability, household debt to disposable income, unemployment rate, share prices (JSE ALL share index), foreign direct investment, and producer price index) over the 2000Q1-2019Q4 period. The study utilizes a vector error correction model (VECM) to estimate the short- and long-run causal relationships while accounting for endogeneity and reverse causality. The results suggest the existence of a significant short-run and long-run association between house prices and macroeconomic fundamental variables under review. More specifically, the empirical results presented reveal that the gross domestic product and producer price index had the most impact on house prices compared to all other variables. Furthermore, any disequilibrium of house prices from its fundamental determinants in the short-run always self-corrects in the long run

On fundamental mechanisms in dye sensitized solar cells through the behaviour of different mesoporous titanium dioxide films

Understanding mechanisms in DSSCs is fundamental for their improvement; this includes the nanocrystalline semiconducting layer behaviour. Different mesoporous TiO2 layers are fabricated and analyzed for possible use in DSSC solar cells. The preparations included the addition of P123 triblock copolymer as structuring agent to the synthesized anatase sol. This preparation was also mixed with Degussa P25 nanoparticles in one case and polystyrene latex in another. Mesoporous mixed TiO2-SiO2 thin layers were also analyzed. The diverse morphology and features are studied by microscopic techniques and by means of spectral quantum efficiency of a photoelectrochemical cell (PEC) that uses as photoelectrode the unsensitized porous TiO\_2 layer. Contact angle measurements are also performed. We have found that a very high specific area due to very small nanocrystals and small pores can hinder electrolyte penetration in the pores formed by TiO\_2 nanograins, affecting photoelectrodes efficiency

This study aims to analyze the science process skills of students before and after the application of the 9E Learning cycle at home model through online learning on the subject of environmental pollution. This research uses an experimental method and this type of reseach uses a pre-experimental design. The instrument used was a science process skills test in the form of 14 multiple choice questions with 6 indicators of science process skills, namely 1) observing, 2) classifying, 3) measuring, 4) communicating, 5) concluding, 6) predicting. The population in this study was class VII semester 2 MTs Persatuan Islam Academic Year 2020/2021, with 21 female and 7 male students. The results showed that there was a significant difference in the students scicence process skills from before and after the 9E Learning Cycle at Home model was applied through online learning. The average percentage of N-Gain in increasing the achievement of students science process skills, which is 84%, is included in the high category. The highest percentage of N-Gain is obtained in indicator 4, which is 97%, while the lowest is in indicator 2, which is 71%, and the science process skills achieved by female students are superior to men, namely 94%:90%. This shows that learning about environmental pollution using the 9E learning cycle at home model through online learning can improve students science process skills and is useful for the continuity of the learning process. This research was conducted in PT Adhi Karya, a state company that provides construction services. During the past three years, the company suffered an increasing of employees' turnover rate because of unappropriate implementaton of procedural and distributive justice in every decision making or applying procedures and rules. Besides that, there were conflicts happened among employees due to the uncohesiveness of groups. The aim of the study was to examine the influence of procedural justice, distributive justice, and group cohesiveness on organizational loyalty. Research method applied was quantitative method. Analysis was done by using multiple regression, in which the data were collected through questionnaires to a sample of 76 people from a total population of 304 people. The result showed that there was a significant effect of procedural justice, distributive justice, and group cohesiveness on organizational loyalty either partially or simultaneously. It may help company in improving the implementation of procedural and distributive justice and group cohesiveness that will lead to higher organization loyalty

Chondroblastoma of the anterior process of calcaneus: a case report:

    Get PDF
Chondroblastoma of the calcaneus is a fairly uncommon tumour. Despite being a benign and indolent lesion, chondroblastoma of the calcaneus can lead to functional limitations, due to its location in such a weight-bearing bone. This report presents a rare case of chondroblastoma affecting the anterior process of the calcaneus, which was successfully treated with extended curettage and synthetic bone graft substitute, resulting in favourable functional outcomes at 13 months post-surgery. This case underscores the importance of timely recognition and appropriate management of this uncommon tumour to achieve optimal patient outcomes

From Kinetic Theory of Multicellular Systems to Hyperbolic Tissue Equations: Asymptotic Limits and Computing

    Get PDF
International audienceThis paper deals with the analysis of the asymptotic limit toward the derivation of macroscopic equations for a class of equations modeling complex multicellular systems by methods of the kinetic theory. After having chosen an appropriate scaling of time and space, a Chapman-Enskog expansion is combined with a closed, by minimization, technique to derive hyperbolic models at the macroscopic level. The resulting macroscopic equations show how the macroscopic tissue behavior can be described by hyperbolic systems which seem the most natural in this context. We propose also an asymptotic-preserving well-balanced scheme for the one-dimensional hyperbolic model, in the two dimensional case, we consider a time splitting method between the conservative part and the source term where the conservative equation is approximated by the Lax-Friedrichs scheme
